Ohio State Basketball Official Thread

I'd guess osu will be at best a 5 seed and more likely a 7 or 8.

Until OSU goes on our crazy win streak (which starts now) and includes wins at MSU, Michigan, Wisconsin, and all the rounds of the B1G tourney. Then we end up a 3/4 seed ;).

    Michigan, 11 losses.
    Michigan State, 8 losses.
    Purdue, 9 losses.

Florida is not even top 5 in the SEC. If those teams are decent, then at least 5 other SEC teams are as well.

I think the one thing that really is working in their favor is simply that beyond a few teams, there is just so much parity among the good-to-really-good teams that a few consecutive wins will help them out greatly, while the occasional loss here and there won't be as costly. Seems like most everyone is in that "two steps forward, one (or two) steps back" mode, which means that as long as they're making more steps forward than back (like they have the past couple weeks), they'll move up.

Now, without a huge streak, "up" might max at a 6 seed or so, but getting a huge streak that includes a win over Wisconsin (either the regular season game or a meeting in the B1G tournament AND a good conference tourney run (making, if not winning the finals) could boost them to a 3-4 seed.

Definition of "huge streak": making tournament finals and losing no more than 2 games (preferably no more than 1) the rest of the way with no bad losses (ie: win all home games with possible exception of Wisconsin and DEFINITELY don't get tripped up at Penn State or depleted Michigan).

I'm not sure if it's every year, but there have been a couple of years when OSU did really well in the B1G tournament and it did shit for their ncaa seed. I feel like the selection committee has already pretty much made up their mind before Sunday.

I guess that's why I just feel it's important to make the finals, but don't really care so much about what they do there.

I think the whole 3-9 seed area could wind up being the sort of tightly-contested thing where if they go out early, it will hurt them; but if they keep winning, at the least, they'll be locked into a decent seed.

Sorry but outside UK, sec basketball sucks, though I think B1G bball stinks this year too.

I agree with both. The second part was my point. The so-called "tough" B1G teams are tough in name on this year. OSU is the second best team in the conference and they have by far the worst resume of any team who is #2 in their league.
  • Laley23
The B1G is awful this year. The fact Indiana could legitimately finish #2 is an absolute joke. They are like 7th/8th if they had this team last year.

    This.

Although for how bad the B1G is, the SEC is that much worse.

This year, I'd say the contrary. Although, the bottom 4 (I won't count South Carolina just yet, they did beat Iowa State) of the SEC sucks.

    What's latest on Loving?
  • Midstate01
Not playing tomorrow. Maybe this weekend.
  • Automatik
Did I miss it, or the reason for Loving being sat still unknown?

    This

They have not said the reason.

Apparently, we need the OSU athletic department guys to take over things like our government and shit. In this day and age, keeping the secret behind a disciplinary infraction going for over a week is almost mind-boggling.

Seriously. Not one whisper about what happened. I'm shocked. I keep waiting for something really bad to come out. (Selling nuclear secrets to the Russians or something)

I think the likelyhood of it being this is pretty hi.

Controlled PSU from the tip. Sam with a career high on an off night from the field from DAngelo.

    Shannon Scott just looks lost.
  • Classyposter58
Idk OSU is better than an 8 seed. They're #23 for a reason

For four years he has. Think things are going to change now? I thought he would at least be servicable, decent this year. He is worse.

Good win for tOSU. Thompson was really good and Bates-Diop is showing that he can be an asset down the stretch. Some fans thought Scott would flourish once he got out from under Craft's shadow. Clearly, that is not happening.I am sure he has worked hard, but he is a liability on offense. I think Cam Williams is beginning to understand his role and understanding what a good shot is.

MSU hit 13 3-pointers at Northwestern a couple of days ago. Let's hope that they are cooled off come Saturday.

If Matta is going to let Amir play, he should make him walk around campus holding a basketball over his head. I have never seen such a big guy play so small by always bringing the ball down to waist level before attempting any moves. Dude has to be dumb as a stump to not understand that and not learn to keep the ball up after all the games he has played in.
