Ohio State Basketball Official Thread

I still don't see NIT, but it's getting harder to convince myself of that. But recently, and this year seems similar, got damn we have some bad teams make it lol.
  • Azubuike24
Exactly. Every selection Sunday we have teams with dog shit resumes and 11-13 losses getting in. On the surface, OSU's resume will be enough to get them in because of a strong league and respectable RPI. Now, when you dig into it and consider they haven't beaten a single tournament team, that probably changes. Still...

If their "vets" can't get them by PSU at home, I can't see how it will be any different the rest of the season.

I thought Thompson and Loving might help if given more minutes, but they have been no-shows lately.

It is time to accept the spoiler and prepare for the NIT.

They are hard to watch, but I'll keep watching.
Thought Thompson played pretty well tonight. Didn't get many looks on the offensive end, but was good in all other facets of the game.

Entire fucking team sucks. No emotion and seems like they are just getting worse. Amazing a guy can seem to have as little fire as Amir does. Lenzelle goes into me mode at times. Shannon Scott is my favorite player but now that is two point blank game winners he's missed, plus he can't hit a shot to save his life it seems. Craft continues to be overrated but the entire team just sucks. Defense keeps getting worse as well. NIT here they come!

    SMFH.

Don't forget Scott's bonehead defensive play to give up a wide open 3. The dude is terrible, and doesn't belong on the court.

That was in response to me laughing at Classy for saying 4 losses or whatever the fuck he said. I say the offense issues coming and no way did I ever believe this was a top seed with 4-5 losses. But, damn...no one could've seen looses to PSU and Nebraska coming.

Wasn't long ago they were ranked 3rd....lol

He's had better moments, that's for sure.

Probably in high school. He hasn't had any in college.

This team is just bad right now. Craft is only one with any kind of mental toughness. Ross is frustrating me as he is a black hole late in game. Either forces a shot or turns it over. Shannon Scott...why is he even on the floor? I am tired of watching him just dribble around. He absolutely gives OSU nothing. I thought maybe some defense. But when he didn't switch on the give and go...he shoulda been benched.
What is frustrating is that I believe they are capable. They blew 10pt leads to both Iowa and PSU with under 8 min to go. Coulda easily beat MSU at their place. But now, they are mental midgets on both ends of the floor. Now they have to go to Wisconsin and Iowa. Hard to even believe they have any chance at all in those games.

Them and Wisconsin. WTH has happened?

Maybe start Craft, ADV/Loving, Smith, Jr., Thompson and McDonald, with Scott, ADV/Loving and Williams off the bench?

    Looking ahead...
HELP IS ON THE WAY. While the basketball Buckeyes could be on the verge of bottoming out in 2014, the struggles should be short-lived as Matta welcomes a consenus top-five class this fall lead by five-star prospects D'Angelo Russell and Keita Bates-Diop.
Yesterday, Russell, the crown-jewel of the group, was named a McDonald's All-American and will team with Matta dream-target Myles Turner on the East squad for the April 2nd contest.
Russell, a 6'5" combo guard, should make an immediate impact for the Buckeyes next season if for no other reason that he can shoot the basketball. Likewise, Bates-Diop is a guy who can fill it up from anywhere on the floor and while he'll need to bulk up to play the three, scouts rave about his basketball IQ which is another trait the current Buckeyes sorely lack.
Basically, hang tight diehard OSU hoops fans. If things don't straighten out this season, at the very least next year's group will be a lot more exciting to watch.

I honestly don't think Amir played that bad last nite. He gave them 12pts and 6rb. I'll take that from him. I would certainly bench Scott and get Thompson MORE minutes. Thompson needs to be in the game to get into the flow of the game. He has his limitations but can certainly get them 10pts and plays pretty good defense. Scott was better off the bench last year.
But I think its time for Matta to shake things up after last nite. Not sure he will. But he needs to.
Its easy to panic. But if people recall, last year OSU had lost 3 of 4, were drilled at Wisky, sitting at 18-7 and got on a roll. Now this isn't last years team, obviously. I personally misjudged how important the loss of Thomas was. Easy to see that now though. Still long ways to go. But the lack of being able to finish games, blowing nice leads is disturbing.

Wisconsin really surprises me. I thought this was one of, if not the most talented team that Ryan has had. At least offensively. I wasn't sure just how good (or not) OSU was. Didn't think they would play this poorly. But didn't ever think they were a top 3 team either. Both are head scratchers, no question.

I would agree about Williams, I thought he played a pretty good game last night, aside from getting his shot blocked (what 6'11" guy gets his shot blocked down low?) and fumbling the half-way decent pass from Ross in the closing minutes.

Scott, on the other hand, is just plain awful. His supposed stong suit (defense) is no where good enough to make up for his lack of shooting ability and out of control play. Bench him.

I liked what I saw from ADV last night. At least he works hard all over the court. Give him and Thompson more minutes at the expense of Scott and Smith

I would have to say that while blowing nice leads is disturbing....playing with the lack of effort and IQ is terrifying.

    We've been spoiled with scoring

Thomas last year just had a knack of finding the hoop and it took pressure of guys like Ross to be able to play loose.

Before that we had a guy in the middle who is putting up double doubles in the NBA. The people who just couldn't wait for Sully to leave look like real dopes right about now. Guy is a monster

The overall IQ of this team is near the moronic level. Most of them work to their weaknesses and not their strengths. Most of them make passes to their teammates that put the teammate in a negative situation. Most of them don't know when to push the ball and when to pull it out.

All the coaching can do is put them in a position to get decent shots. That is hard when the 2 lead guards won't shoot the ball when they open because they have zero confidence.

I don't buy LJ's point that the OSU fan base has been spoiled with scoring. I think it is reasonable for any fan base to expect that their team has the ability to score the ball. Most teams recruit guys who can shoot .

It's hard to believe that there were OSU fans out there that wanted Sully to bolt--you sure they weren't ttun fans incognito?

Osu had 2 absolute go to guys the last 3 year's that were money when points were needed. I don't mean spoiled in that we expect too much, just that having guys like that so recently makes things so much harder to watch

Yes and no. The difference with this years teams compared to the past...is the past teams had a GO TO guy. That guy would either be able to make a play, OR he would draw so much attention, someone else was be open. This year, this team has no go to. Ross is overtrying to be that guy. Last nite, he had consecutive possessions of trying to pass to Amir (poor decision as Amir doesn't handle ball in traffic well), another he gets under basket and a player is wide open on baseline, he doesn't pass it and forces it up and gets a jump ball that goes to PSU, and a 3rd possesion he turned it over I believe. As you mentioned, poor IQ. Craft is also trying to be that guy..and he can't shoot from perimeter as we know so teams are not letting him penetrate. They just don't have the identity of having a guy who can make a play or draw enough attention to have others open during crunch time. To compound things, they are poor FT shooting team as well.
And as I mention, they seem to tighten up after having a lead late in games. No excuse to lose 10pt leads with under 8 min to play. They try to milk the clock down. Then, the above crap happens. At this point, I'd rather just see them attack and play instead of trying to use the clock. Get shot within flow of offense instead.
