And would you turn down millions to be a top 5 pick, to do what you dreamt of doing since you picked up a basketball? He is only doing what is available to him.Prescott;1723422 wrote:Another one semester wonder opts for the NBA. -
PrescottI don't blame any of the players who are choosing to take the money and run. IMO, they shouldn't have to waste their time going to college. They aren't student-athletes and they cheapen the college game. They are as Bo Ryan said,"Rent-A-Players".

But while you don't like the rule, you also criticize the schools and coaches for taking these players under the rules as they are currently constructed. To boot, there is no such NCAA rule that forces ANYONE to play college basketball. That's strictly a professional basketball rule. It's like blaming a profitable company who operates under the law, for the laws in place that allow them do to so. They don't make the rules.Prescott;1723561 wrote:I don't blame any of the players who are choosing to take the money and run. IMO, they shouldn't have to waste their time going to college. sleeperI support his decision but I hope he finishes his degree. He's a great player and I would love to have him on my NBA team.

I am fully aware that it is an NBA rule and not an NCAA rule.Azubuike24;1723573 wrote:But while you don't like the rule, you also criticize the schools and coaches for taking these players under the rules as they are currently constructed. I don't think I have ever criticized Kentucky because they and their fans know and accept what they are , a OAD program. I did criticize Duke because many of their fans have walked on high moral ground and not accepted that Duke is no different from Kentucky..the Blue Devils are now a OAD program. They should own it. -

I heard K on radio, I believe last week. He actually owned up to it. Said prior to having go against so many of the top one and dones, he had no interest in recuriting "those" type of players. He said he was soured during the recruiting of Kobe Bryant. He said he spent a tremendous amount of time doing so, then Kobe bolted to the NBA. He said he would not do that again. But when he had to start playing against those same players as the one and done came in, he knew he had no choice but to change his philosophy.Prescott;1723653 wrote:I am fully aware that it is an NBA rule and not an NCAA rule.

PrescottAnother in-sate recruiting loss for Matta. Gahanna's Nick Ward opts for Sparty joining former Lion Teammate Javon Bess.

OSU couldn't have signed him anyway as they are full on the scholarship front. Unless they know or are anticipating someone leaving possibly. But nothing is official. Players aren't going to wait around. So no, its not really a loss. They have who they wanted currently.Prescott;1725542 wrote:Another in-sate recruiting loss for Matta. I following OSU recruiting very closely. Have read quite a few articles lately and never a mention of them being able to sign someone. Everything says they currently have no room unless someone leaves. At least thru the class of 2016.Laley23;1727319 wrote:You can oversign by 1.
That being said, Sterling Gibbs from Seton Hall is in town today for a visit. Transferring. -

someone would have to leave eventually. But you are permitted to oversign by one with the anticipation of ayers going pro/transferring.centralbucksfan;1727589 wrote:I following OSU recruiting very closely. Actually, Gibbs is a graduate transfer and would be eligible to play right away. This would be a HUGE pick up for OSU if they can get him. Needing an experienced PG for this young team next year.Laley23;1727602 wrote:someone would have to leave eventually. If OSU has 13 on scholarship, they cannot take Gibbs without someone leaving...but could still sign him. They would need someone to leave by the deadline (start of season I believe).centralbucksfan;1728407 wrote:Actually, Gibbs is a graduate transfer and would be eligible to play right away. If they don't have 13 on scholarship, then I have no clue what you meant at the start of this whole convo. -

Gibbs is a completely separate topic than what the 13 on scholarship was referring to, lol.Laley23;1728414 wrote:If OSU has 13 on scholarship, they cannot take Gibbs without someone leaving...but could still sign him. They would need someone to leave by the deadline (start of season I believe).

CBF originally stated they're full on scholarships for the 2016-2017 season since they have 11 players on the roster for that year currently plus 2 verbal commits for the 2016 class, which puts them at 13, so you were correct in saying they could oversign by 1. Sterling Gibbs is a graduate transfer for the 2015-2016 year only though, which Ohio State only has 11 players on scholarship for the 2015-2016 so they could add Gibbs and they would be alright.
Basically, there was no reason to quote what you were saying because it doesn't apply to Gibbs, but I think there was just some confusion on CBF's end, haha. -
Laley23Ahhh that makes way more sense lol. I was confused because he quoted me, but that makes total sense now lol

Ya, thats what I meant! ha. Sorry, should have clarified that I wasn't talking about next season. My bad.Terry_Tate;1728427 wrote:Gibbs is a completely separate topic than what the 13 on scholarship was referring to, lol.

sportswizuhrdGibbs decides he is going with UConn.
-
Azubuike24It broke like 2 weeks ago that he was. Gibbs never confirmed it, but he didn't deny it. I wasn't really sure why he didn't confirm it or why he visited OSU.
-
sportswizuhrdTwo hours before he tweeted that he was going to UConn, he retweeted a Rothstein tweet saying that he was visiting NC State this week and also tweeted Evan Daniels that he hadn't committed anywhere yet. Weird. Glad UConn reeled him in though.

centralbucksfanOSU non conference schedule to include Virginia, Memphis, UConn and Kentucky. Good to see it beefed up a bit. Should help prepare a very young team for the Big Ten.
