    Going to bed, cbf?

They forgot to count VCU's half of the double foul toward the double bonus for Russell! A lot easier to make the one of two they needed that way!

    Surprised me.

Not to hijack the thread though, to want to can Matta is stupid. Sometimes it takes time to really learn your recruiting and development niche. Matta came out of the gates super strong in recruiting, but he's not doing that anymore. He needs time to find his niche.

He's also been burned by some unexpected one-and-dones, which projecting that kind of thing is a skill on its own.
He's had exactly 1 unexpected one-and-done with Mike Conley.

    Koufas? Mullens?

Who expected 2 5* 7 foot McDonald's All-Americans to play more than one year?
  • Automatik
They were expected to leave after a year?
  • wildcats20
I think Koufas was semi-expected. BJ was a surprise, if memory serves me.
  • se-alum
I guess I could be misremembering, but I don't remember anyone being surprised when Koufas and Mullens left.

Very, very few guys are expected to leave after 1 year. We're talking maybe 8-12 guys a year, depending on the strength of the class.

IMO, I think both B.J. Mullens and Daequan Cook were not absolute locks. They have also had some guys leave "early", like DeShaun Thomas and Laquinton Ross. Obviously both of those guys were huge busts.
  • Mulva
Mullens was Rivals #1 recruit in 2008.

Deshaun Thomas was not a bust at all, let alone a huge bust. LQR didn't turn out as good as expected so that one is partially right.

Yhuge win. Gutty performance. Sam needs a big game Saturday. Have they announced times?
  • Azubuike24
I'm talking pro bust. Meaning, why leave early? Neither even made the NBA. They were the opposite of busts in college, which is why it would've been nice to stay longer.

Ah, I thought you were talking college, I was like wtf? Lol. It was an extra year they could get paid something because they weren't making the NBA anyway. I'm still shocked Deshaun isn't on a roster though. The dude is a talented scorer, I'd figure he'd get a shot.
  • Automatik
He plays for Barcelona. Not quite the NBA, but not bad way to make a living. I was also surprised when he couldn't crack a roster.
  • Azubuike24
As maligned as he was, Ross would've been a major, major help on this year's team. He would've been another guy who could take over a game offensively in spurts and take it off Russell.
  • Cleveland Buck
Ross would have been huge because he can shoot. Russell is the only Buckeye that has a reasonable chance to hit an open shot.
  • Midstate01
Yeah I'd go play in Barcelona. They pay your salary, house and car. I'd be OK with that.

    5:15 Saturday.
  • Automatik
I have not watched one second of Arizona. 3 losses, and all were rather close. Do we have a shot? Russell goes for 40?
  • Azubuike24
3 losses to bad teams. I don't think it's impossible for OSU if a few guys play above their heads.
  • slingshot4ever
All 3 losses on the road, beat the Zags in OT and Utah twice. Only game I remember watching was when UM went to Zona. Lost by 27. Combination of UM being that bad and Zona being pretty good.Shanno Scott would need to play out of his mind again, and Loving hopefully wakes up from his one month nap before tip on Saturday.

Maybe not absolute locks, but as a coach, you have to know it's a possibility when you're recruiting 5* guys. I like Matta, and think he's a pretty good coach, but it's troublesome that he hasn't really developed a player since Evan Turner. There's guys like Craft, Deshaun, Buford, Smith, Ross, McDonald, Scott, Thompson, Amir, and so far Loving that were/are basically the same player from Freshman year to the time they left/will leave. That's a lot of "contributors" that just haven't gotten better.

I got one bracket going and it's perfect...
