Sure it should be better but there isn't a school on the planet that competes strongly in both football and basketball on a consistent basis. OSU did fine this year; not going to cry about losing to AZ, a school that's only known for its basketball program.wkfan;1715741 wrote:'Top' 32...whoopee. Last season, lost in first round.
Not going in the right direction.
This is THE Ohio State University. Should be better.
BTW, best thing about losing to Arizona? NEVER have to watch Amir Williams and Shannon Scott play EVER again. -
se-alumOn to next year. AJ Harris looks legit. Here are the highlights from his Dunbar team beating Kennard's Franklin team.

SportsAndLadyLuke kennard is a beast. Wish he would have went to osu and not duke.

No doubt, he put up 41 in that game. Harris went fro 23pts and 9 ast. It will be nice to have a PG that can put the ball in the basket.SportsAndLady;1716043 wrote:Luke kennard is a beast. Wish he would have went to osu and not duke. -

Actually, he is a little shakey from the perimeter in terms of shooting the ball. But he is a pure PG who is able to penetrate and finish with a good touch. Going to be interesting to see how things play out with him and Lyles. From all I have read, Lyles is more of a pt. / pt forward with good vision and handles. I would assume we may see what we did this year in terms of Scott and Russell with Lyles and Harris. Then you add in Mitchell who has great court awareness/vision. I like the looks of the incoming class. More offense and play makers. Add in who returns as well as the addition of Thompson from VaTech who sat out this year. Hearing very good things about him and his development. Next year the team is going to be very very young. But after dealing with this senior class, I can better stomach young talent mistakes over senior talent mistakes. Next years team is going to look completely different than the past couple of years. I am ready for that change!se-alum;1716044 wrote:No doubt, he put up 41 in that game. Harris went fro 23pts and 9 ast. It will be nice to have a PG that can put the ball in the basket. -
AutomatikRussell named AP first team AA. Maybe he'll stay? lol

centralbucksfanBig in state pick up for Matta. St. Ed Derek Funderburk(no relation to former OSU player) commits to OSU.

This is what I like about him. Mike Conley only shot 30% from 3 in his year at OSU, but shot 52% from the field because of his ability to penetrate and finish. It would be nice to see a PG that can finish as opposed to Scott missing layup after layup.centralbucksfan;1717294 wrote:Actually, he is a little shakey from the perimeter in terms of shooting the ball. Well, I'd like to believe Harris is in the mold of Conley. But he is not IMO. Conley had a deadly mid range jumper in the paint and an uncanny ability around the basket. I think Harris will be good. Just not sure "Conley" good. Which, isn't expected as Conley was REALLY good. And with Lyle coming in and able to play the PG, thats an added addition that may help Harris as i all won't be put on his shoulders as a true frosh.se-alum;1718304 wrote:This is what I like about him. Yea, I don't expect him to be Mike Conley, just think they have a similar style. I think if Loving, Williams, and Diop can get consistent with their outside shooting along with the addition of Lyles and Grandstaff, Harris could be a very good pure PG.centralbucksfan;1718320 wrote:Well, I'd like to believe Harris is in the mold of Conley. centralbucksfanRussell playing pickup ball at OSU rec center. Signs that he may return? We can only hope! Still pretty cool that he did this with the "common" folks.

bases_loadedTerrance Dials used to play when I was there. Once played against Brandon Joe, Santonio Holmes, and Chimbi Chekwa among other football guys. JO South looks a lot nicer now.

sleeperThis is nothing new or special. Football and hoops players at OSU frequent the rec centers at Ohio State.

centralbucksfanNever said it was anything special. But for a top 5 NBA pick to show up after the season, prior to draft...i'd venture to say its not a common thing. Take it as you will.
-
AutomatikNo reason at all for him to stay.
I really hate the fucking one and done rule....such a tease. -

Agree about no reason to stay. But a little odd he hasn't announced yet. although I don't think many have. When is the deadline to announce? Like end of this month? Many usually head off to workout withsomeone once they announce.Automatik;1719290 wrote:No reason at all for him to stay.

HereticWell, in the world of "in no fucking way reliable 55th-hand source information" during their game with VCU, a friend of the host for our NCAA party said his brother was on a plane with a couple big-time booster/supporter types and they were of the opinion he was returning because, with all the young talent coming in, he thinks they can be a title contender.
Which is totally believable information. You know, a person saying their brother overheard a conversation on a plane. That should be good enough to get the Sleeper "Take It To The Bank" award. -

I heard differently. I heard Russell slapped Matta's lunch tray from his hands in the cafeteria yesterday.Heretic;1719300 wrote:Well, in the world of "in no fucking way reliable 55th-hand source information" during their game with VCU, a friend of the host for our NCAA party said his brother was on a plane with a couple big-time booster/supporter types and they were of the opinion he was returning because, with all the young talent coming in, he thinks they can be a title contender.

He's gone folks. -

It happens all the time. I got in a pickup game with Oladipo a few years ago 3 days prior to the draft. Some co-workers played wih Jabari Parker last year 2 days after the Mercer game.centralbucksfan;1719289 wrote:Never said it was anything special. Not trying to pick on you...but you're looking way to into this. These kids play pickup ball all the time with "common folk" no matter their status/time of year. -

lol, I am NOT looking way to into anything. Just posted it, simple as that. If I posted it for anything, it was for people who have been critical of Russell court behavior and made judgments about his character. When I know for a fact, off the court he is a great young man who works extremely hard at the game. I get players play pick up ball here and there. And I realize Russell is 99% gone and I think he should be gone.Laley23;1719317 wrote:It happens all the time. I got in a pickup game with Oladipo a few years ago 3 days prior to the draft. SportsAndLadyGreat young man with no character concerns because he played a rec basketball game at Ohio State

The AnswerIt doesn't mean anything but I do think it's pretty cool for those that got to play with him. Same to those of you that have had similar experiences. He's gone to the NBA but until he says it I will hold out hope. Just like I did with Oden and Conley even though I knew there was no chance of that either.
