Carlos Hyde to be kicked off OSU football team!

    What happened here is certainly not unique to Ohio State. But it is not occuring everywhere. I believe one of the problems with college football is very evident at Ohio State: Programs have lost their roots and thus their values. Ohio State brought in a hired gun to coach their team. That he's coincidently from Ashtabula makes no difference. He's a hired gun just like Nick Saban or Spurrier or Kiffin, etc. That doesn't make him a bad person. In fact he seems like a good coach from an x's and o's perspective. But I don't believe he has the school's best interests in mind because he is not motivated to do so. These types of hired gun guys are becoming the rule at big time programs. With their $4million salaries and perks, I think they are going to continue to drag college football down. If schools lose their roots, college football is nothing more than mini NFL. And in that department it can't compete at all.

    What is wrong with debating topics in a respectful way on a message board? What's the fun if everyone just echos the same thing? It tells me something about someone who, when they read something they disagree with, has to go immediately to the name calling instead of refuting a point.

    It's just the same shit that we went through with Tressel and Cooper with arrests. I bet Woody's players got into even more trouble than we ever knew about. I honestly don't see anything different today than it was a few years ago with Irrizary robbing people, or the one dude having child porn and running drugs, etc.

    Ohio State is one of the few universities that is right in the middle of a major metropolitan area, so you instantly hear about any underage ticket or minor thing.

    I went to a D1 school in Ohio (not OSU) and was friends w/ a lot of the basketball players. It was an all out party all the time. Those guys didn't give a ####

    With no scholarship at risk, 50 person recruiting classes, and not as much structure overall, DIII players really just don't care. It seems like there was a new football player arrested for assault every other week or so when I was in college.

    I've been reading without commenting, but thought I'd throw in my two cents.

    I partially agree in the sense that players feel a sense of entitlement these days. They feel that much of what they want should be GIVEN to them as opposed to being earned. This is different from earlier eras where professional athletes earned less than our college athletes are making these days. In those days, athletes felt blessed to be playing a game they loved for the ability to support their families. Today, people complain because they are making $5M/year while the guy next to them is making $5.2M. We would do better to begin stripping the benefits of college athletes instead of banning them, suspending them, or cutting them loose.

    I know this will never happen because there is too much money at stake for schools and television stations, but this is just my take after watching the transformation of athletes (college and professional) in general reach this point.
