College Basketball Random Chatter 2013-2014 Season

Jones, Miller and Lamb all had Final Four experience returning. I agree.

Now, watch UNLV beat Zona tomorrow night. We might not see a team unbeaten into the first of the year.

Wouldn't shock me at all to see Vegas win at the McKale center today, simply considering all of the talent the Rebels have. But Sean Miller will be the difference IMO, especially if the game is close early in the second half. UNLV has been a first half team all year.

I hope it's a good game, though. Has all the ingredients to be one of the more exciting matchups this season.

There are so many games on today in combination with football that I my head is spinning. Have no idea what to watch.

St. John's hosts Fordham today at the Garden which could be a spectacular matchup between D'Angelo Harrison (20 PPG) and Ram freshman John Severe, one of the most potent scoring guards in the country (23.2 PPG). Severe is averaging 4 three-point makes a game out of 9 tries. I've seen him play twice this year and he is going to be the nation's leading scorer next season.

    Game's at 1:30.

Uh huh. Even over Colorado? ;)

Right now they're not the best team in the country..they looked horrible today.

They're obviously playing to the opponent's talent level this year. Hence, beating Duke then losing to Nova and Colorado

Come March though, I have no doubts they'll be clicking.

What's your affiliation with Kansas? Just curious.

Like UK's loss to Baylor, it's a decent loss, but also one I'm not sure an "elite" team has.

    Some observations from today.

Mizzouri goes to 9-0, handing UCLA their first loss 80-71. How good is Mizzou?
New Mexico hands Cincinnati their first loss.

One of my observations from today is that Massachusetts is going to be dancing deep into March. Chaz Williams dropped 32 points and 16 assists in the Minutemen's convincing victory over Brigham Young. With a little help from teams ahead of them dropping some games, they should be in the Top 15 -- or maybe even Top Ten -- before the new year. UMass has NIU, Florida State, Providence and Miami of Ohio at home, as well as Ohio on the road over the next five games. They'll be favorites in each and should run the table over that span.

    Kansas currently sucking

    21-0 run for Florida.

Anyone watching this NOT see what we all are saying about Wiggins?

He's taken 6 shots. 3 or 4 of them have been situations where he just stands at the the 3-point line for 15-20 seconds of the shot clock and launches.

This all in a span where KU DESPERATELY needs a basket to kill this 21-0 Gators run. Now, wouldn't a superstar WING demand the ball and DRIVE?

I mean, it's baffling to me. Would LeBron James or Kevin Durant ever allow a 21-0 run by an opponent without driving the ball ONCE?

Wiggins just looks like he doesn't care. No emotion whatsoever.

I am looking forward to Kentucky and Boise State tonight, that should be fun

He's overrated, guy doesn't even compare to Durant. Isn't even a top 3 freshman, Parker-Randle-Gordon honestly

While the numbers Wiggins is putting up are really good for a freshman, the level of his overall play, just in terms of sheer playmaking ability and skill, has been utterly disappointing compared to the extravagant publicity he received in the months leading up to the season. When discussing Wiggins, it was almost blasphemy to mention any of the other freshmen in the same sentence. None of them could compare. And that's why, in the end, it's almost not even surprising that none of that type of hype lived up to its billing. No one could live up to that.

I do think Wiggins will end up being a good pro, but I simply do not see the Kobe Bryant-like upside here at all that everyone keeps saying we need to wait for. He will never be in that category with Kobe, LeBron James or Kevin Durant. And neither will Jabari Parker (that's not what this post is about). The unrealistic expectations just need to stop, even though they won't.
  • reclegend22
To his credit, Wiggins has come out looking for his shot in the second half by commanding the ball more, it seems. That is exactly what he should do.

And in all honesty, I don't care if the kid proves me wrong and becomes one of the 15 greatest basketball players ever. That seems extraordinarily unlikely at this point, but I don't dislike him in any way. He seems like a good guy.
  • birddog23
Somehow Kansas only down 8 at the under 12 tv timeout. Seems like they've been out of it all night.
  • Azubuike24
Wiggins reminds me of John Wall.

Incredible talent. Will end up having a hall of fame career. However, I am not confident that one day they will be the BEST in the sport, even though they have the gifts to do so.

Wall for his career (just turned 23) is averaging 17/8/5 thus far, and he doesn't have far to go to be at the very top of the league at the PG position. However, will he ever get to that point where he's THE BEST? For instance, Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, John Stockton, Patrick Ewing (close), Kevin Durant (thus far) all achieved that status, but never won a title.

BTW, Boise State +11.5 vs UK is probably a smart bet. UK hasn't covered in 7 of their 9 games this season. Part of that is probably being overrated, but the spread is still incredibly high.

Boise State leads the nation in scoring.

    Chris Burgess.

Not at all worried about wiggins or Kansas. Come march, they'll be a 1-3 seed and a favorite to make the final four.
  • Azubuike24
Now, where is this aggressiveness all game? The last 3 possessions (2 of them baskets for AW), he's demanded the ball and shot aggressively. He's an insane player. That's my only gripe.
