College Basketball Random Chatter 2013-2014 Season

Frank Kaminsky of Wisconsin with 41 points, still 4 minutes left. Huh? Are we sure that isn't Wisky's total?

15 for 17 from the field, 6 for 6 from behind the arc.

Some dude on Wisconsin not named Sam Dekker dropped 43, on 16/18 shooting

Didn't see this one, but in the couple of games I've watched of Wisconsin this season, I came away more impressed with the upside of Kaminsky than Sam Dekker. He's an extremely smooth player for a guy his size. Was the best player on the floor the other night against Green Bay, despite being the Badgers fifth-leading scorer.

But 41 and six treys? He's seven feet. Dude's gonna have a chance to ball in the big leagues.

    Love watching Wisconsin's bigs play.

Speaking of Green Bay, they have played just 2 games so far this year, and won't play their 3rd until this weekend.

Fuck them, and fuck Alec Brown.

Such a horrible wild card pick that was

Laley, don't worry, you can catch North Dakota at Wisconsin again at two o'clock this morning.

What's going on with him, anyway?

At least you didn't draft a 17-year-old with a broken finger and apparently a severe case of mono. It's very likely he'll finish the year with two rebounds and that's it.

Lol...well at least you can replace him. I'm stuck with my wild card's 9 fantasy points a game

Meanwhile, others in our league are getting 45 a game from their wildcards. SMH

When did Roscoe Smith become a monster rebounder? In UNLV first 4 games this year he's had games of 16, 17, and 17 already tonight with 16 minutes left.

He's stealing boards from Birch, and it pisses me off. Although Khem has 11 tonight already too.

Noticed that. It's like smiths sole purpose out there is to grab every board.

Jahii Carson is a beast though. Just a scoring machine.
  • Mulva
    Carson is an animal.

Another huge fantasy game for Birch. 6 blocks already. Pretty solid game overall. On CBS Sports Network.
  • SportsAndLady
Yeah I was watching earlier. Birch was a great pick. Those blocks are money in our league, as they're double points

Whereas carson, though awesome, is gonna score 20 pts a game but not much else to go with the points outside a few boards and assists a game.

Would be awesome if UNLV became a big time program again.
  • Mulva
I undersold it at "pretty solid". This has been a great game the past 10 minutes.
  • reclegend22
And, despite four Micky Ds, UNLV falls to 2-2 (all at home), with one of those losses coming to Santa Barbara. They did, however, beat the up-and-coming Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks by 3. Dave Rice, proof that the house doesn't always win. Gotta give props to him. The George Costanza of coaching.
  • reclegend22
I think Mulva might have used that line before, now that I think of it...

    Spoiler Alert: They won't.

Not as long as Dave Rice is the head coach. Guy's a hell of a recruiter. At his current pace, he'll bring in top 15 classes regularly. But once that talent gets to town, it's another story. His program is like a stacked AAU team that doesn't win championships; no cohesion, no team play, no apparent plan. The last two years and first few games of this season tell the story.

Same stuff, different year. Check out their message boards. Every other thread is about Rice being a cancer. Lol.

I do agree that it would be awesome if Vegas was a national competitor again. The talent there is exciting and the style of play is entertaining. But the coach is holding it back IMO.

Jahii Carson with 40 and 7 (assists)

    WHooooooo

After watching Oklahoma State treat Memphis like an AAU team (Pastner is a clone of Dave Rice; great recruiter, bad coach), I am starting to wonder how good the Cowboys can be. Do they have a case for being a legitimate No. 1 team in the country? I think they certainly can be. As good as Duke and Kansas' wings are with Parker, Hood and Wiggins (and apparently Ellis who's looked great early), Oklahoma State's trio of Markel Brown, Le'Bryan Nash and Brian Williams is awfully good. Nash had a down night last night, but Marcus Smart more than picked up the slack.

Like Duke, though, I might worry about Oklahoma State when facing a really big front-line such as Kansas or Kentucky or Arizona. It definitely puts a lot of pressure on the wings to perform at a high level.
  • SportsAndLady
I'm not too worried about Oklahoma state. Great talent on that team, but they're similar to UNLV and Memphis. Not much coaching.
  • Laley23
Ive got OKST winning the Big 12. But, I of course also have Kansas winning the NCAA Title.

Of course, that was all pre-season. We will see how the season is going when conference play starts and even moreso when they meet up.
  • Mulva
NC State lost to NC Central. Yikes.
  • reclegend22
Didn't see this post. Yeah, that is a bad, bad loss for Mark Gottfried. His time is limited. Another super talented recruiter who cannot manage a team. And without that ability, in the end, you're nothing.

Ha they were the preseason ACC favorite too last season, sad

The Brigham Young-Iowa State game has been really good. Pretty much locked up throughout the entire second half. And on a night when Tyler Haws is a non-factor. Going forward when Haws is back at 100%, the Cougars are going to be one of the best teams out West (not named Arizona).

I'm a little behind here -- had the game paused and didn't realize I was watching on delay -- but that was a horrible finish to the BYU game. After such a great 39 minutes, the worst two shots of the game happen on BYU's final two possessions to try to win it.
