College Basketball Random Chatter 2013-2014 Season

reclegend22Arizona is a fun team to watch. They have 51 at the half and have only a couple of three-pointers. In about a five-minute window, I saw three or four alley-oop dunks. T.J. McConnell gets out and runs, while Ashley, Hollis-Jefferson and Gordon finish the job in the air. The opponent is Fairleigh Dickinson, but I'm still impressed by their transition offense. Looks pretty fluid to me.
A Duke-Arizona Preseason NIT title game could be fun. -

Apparently, playing the "I'm an inspirational guy who recovered from a gruesome injury" card doesn't make a person immune to all consequences of their actions.Azubuike24;1538461 wrote:Kevin Ware suspended for 1 afternoon of practice by Rick Pitino. Not very bright...
Not even under Pitino.
Which kind of surprises me. A whole afternoon of practice missed. Most strict punishment ever!1! -
Classyposter58From what I've seen out of Iowa they look real good. Very well ran offense

Roy Devyn Marble is one of the more underrated players in the Big Ten. He's got a nice game. We'll get a good idea of how good Iowa is when they take on Xavier next week. The Musketeers are off to a great start this season.Classyposter58;1538750 wrote:From what I've seen out of Iowa they look real good. Very well ran offense -

I don't know. After being cited and/or arrested three times in the off-season (although charges later dropped), Roy Williams took P.J. Hairston's picture off the cover of the North Carolina media guide and is now not letting him play until the NCAA says he can. That's pretty harsh for only thee run-ins with the law.Heretic;1538715 wrote:Apparently, playing the "I'm an inspirational guy who recovered from a gruesome injury" card doesn't make a person immune to all consequences of their actions.

Of course, I think if you are really good and play at Iowa it just goes with the territory. Only B1G people will know who the fuck you are lol -

I think part of that is just because, in recent years, the conference has been really respected overall, where Iowa's had good players, but have been more along the 8/11 or 9/12 in the standings recently. There have been a lot of good players showing up at those lesser schools, but they don't get that much publicity because when a league has 6-7 teams that are either in or potentially close to being in the Top 25 at any given time, there's only so much press to go around.Laley23;1538783 wrote:Mike Gessel and Aaron White are more underrated.

Laley23Gessel and their other big man, behind Aaron White, Adam Woodbury, were all Americas. I forget which game, maybe mcds for Gessel, but they were both all Americans. Anyone who didn't see the Iowa turnaround for this year wasn't paying attention (IMO of course lol).

Crimson streakDuke only up 2 on ECU with 6 to go. My friends brother plays for ECU, Mike Zangari. Let's go ECU!
-
Midstate01Holy Carry by Parker. But play was still awesome.
-
reclegend22Marcus Smart 4 president. He's got 24 points in the first 12 minutes of the game. He's single-handedly beating Memphis. Smart 24, Tigers 20.
This is a damn impressive display. -
IliketurtlesYeah dude has just been awesome. Such a great performance so far
-
reclegend22Yeah, Smart's only been averaging about 13 a game. This breakout game was just waiting to happen. Sucks for Josh Pastner.

Isn't that more because this could possibly be a NCAA issue involving a school booster/drug dealer?reclegend22;1538777 wrote:I don't know. reclegend22This is one of the most exciting games I've seen in some time and there hasn't even been a made basket in the last three minutes. It's like pinball. Up and down, up and down.

I just think that, after all that's happened and the position he has put his team in, it's time to cut ties with P.J. Hairston. I mean, how many chances should you get? Of course, I'm a Duke fan, so of course I am more prone to thinking that.se-alum;1539241 wrote:Isn't that more because this could possibly be a NCAA issue involving a school booster/drug dealer?
In Louisville's situation, however, wherein Chane Behannan was kicked out of the university for cocaine, Rick Pitino comes across much worse. That's pathetic that he's being allowed back by Christmas. -

Lets also be realistic. When someone like Pitino, who should sweep it under the rug if he could, actually punishes the guy, you know there have been TONS of other things that happen. This is true at any major college athletic program. If it comes to a school suspending a player for this stuff, you know it's been "looked the other way on" a half-dozen times previous.reclegend22;1539247 wrote:I just think that, after all that's happened and the position he has put his team in, it's time to cut ties with P.J. reclegend22I actually really like Pitino as a coach. His style of play at UK -- running, pressing, shooting threes -- is the brand of basketball I am most fond of and I have enjoyed watching his teams over the years (not as much in recent seasons, though). As a person, though, not so much. For starters, there's the motivational story Pitino told for years about how his best friend died in the WTC. Well, that dead best friend's sister is Pitino's wife, the very person Rick forgot about when he was banging some random woman in the bathroom of a Louisville restaurant.
Then, among other things, letting his best player who was busted for using felony narcotics sit out until the ... Kentucky game... -
GOONx19I went to buy student tickets for a game or two this morning and ended up with:
Two 2nd row tickets for Boise State
Two 2nd row tickets for Belmont
Eight 15th row tickets for Belmont
Two 1st row tickets for Mississippi State
Four 20th row tickets for Mississippi State
I'll probably go to Boise State and Mississippi State and sell the rest. I'm hoping to put a decent dent in my Spring Break with the profit. -
Azubuike24Boise State is a fucking awesome game...
-
reclegend22Hope that game is televised. It should at least be on Full Court. Watching Boise State right now, and Drmic, Elorriaga and Co. can fill it up. They are potent. The Broncos are hanging 113 points a night through three games this season. Not bad.

Azubuike24UK has Providence, Boise, Baylor, UNC, Belmont and Louisville in 6 straight. 4 on ESPN or ESPN2 and 2 on CBS.
-
Azubuike24Take that back, UNC is also on ESPN.
-
reclegend22Nice. Will tune into most of those, and especially North Carolina. That should be fun.
