And it's officially time to start taking Notre Dame serious

I wanted to put UK as the clear #1 but then I remembered they play in the SEC, so obviously they look really, really good right now.Mulva;1081434 wrote:I think UK is a step ahead of everyone else right now. My list would be more like
1. UK
2a. OSU
2b. UNC (they should be with UK, but for some reason they aren't)
2c. Syracuse
3a. Kansas (the anti-UNC, they shouldn't be as good as they are)
3b. Missouri
Michigan State, Florida, Baylor, Georgetown, and Duke are in the group right below that.
When tourney time comes around, they'll look even w/ OSU, UNC, and Cuse. -

I agree with this about UK. They obviously have the look. But the SEC is so bad overall, its hard to gauge just HOW good they are.SportsAndLady;1081441 wrote:I wanted to put UK as the clear #1 but then I remembered they play in the SEC, so obviously they look really, really good right now.

MulvaThe SEC is better than the ACC. It's probably the #4 conference and I don't think it's very far behind the B12 at all. They'll send at least 4 and maybe up to 6 teams to the NCAA tournament.
Kentucky hasn't played the toughest SEC schedule yet, but 5/6 of their final 7 games are against NCAA tournament teams, including the one they just played against Florida. Beating the Gators by 20 is impressive. -

Florida is incredibly overrated...hell Rutgers beat them -

OSU and Syracuse beat them by 7 and 4. Beating them by 20 is impressive.SportsAndLady;1081524 wrote:Lol the SEC doesn't come close to the Big Twelve

The Big 12 has 3 very good teams, and nothing else. I'll take Vandy, Mississippi State, and Alabama over Iowa State, Kansas State, and Texas any day of the week. -

Big 12 has 3 very good teams, SEC has 1. That alone makes it a better conference.Mulva;1081536 wrote:OSU and Syracuse beat them by 7 and 4. Beating them by 20 is impressive.

Florida is an average team benefitting from a weak conference, w/ poor OOC results. I mean have they beaten anyone? You're saying they are impressive because they have close losses? lol and have they really beaten anyone? A&M was an impressive win, but beyond that? -
MulvaVandy (27 RPI), Florida State (31), Mississippi State (34), Mississippi (55), Arizona (66) are all solid wins. Oh, and A&M sucks. That wasn't an impressive win at all.
And I didn't say close losses make Florida impressive. I said beating them by 20 makes Kentucky impressive, considering the other 2 teams in the top 3 in the country beat them by 7 or fewer. -
SportsAndLady
Literally have no idea why I said A&M...for some reason I forgot they blow ass this year. And I meant OOC who have they beat...you know I hate the SEC so I don't consider any of those conference victories actually impressive. Outside of maybe Vandy.Mulva;1081549 wrote:Vandy (27 RPI), Florida State (31), Mississippi State (34), Mississippi (55), Arizona (66) are all solid wins. Oh, and A&M sucks. And yes Kentucky is impressive..we know this. They are the 1 very good team in the conference. Florida and Vandy are decent. Mississippi State is alright. Alabama is overrated every year, I mean they just lost to 1-8 in the SEC South Carolina. And Dayton. They literally have zero good wins.
Outside of UK, pretty much all SEC teams have shitty resume's. And none will do anything in the tourney. -

1. Big Ten
2. Big12
3. Big East
4. SEC
5. ACC
But even at that, UK still has no one to really challenge them in the SEC. At least in the ACC, you have Duke/UNC challenging eachother. UK will dominate this conference. Florida is good, but not great. If they are the 2nd best SEC team, than that isn't saying much to be honest.
IMO, its similar to the Big Ten in football where OSU dominated for how many years in a row? UM was down, and no one else challenged them. Then we saw what would happen in the bowls. There is no question UK is legit. After that, big dropoff and VERY questionable.
OSU over Florida was by 7pts. But that game wasn't that close in the second half as OSU held a double digit lead most of the 2nd half. Fla had a late surge to make score look respectable. -
MulvaJust based on ability and not seeing the bracket, I'd bet more SEC teams advance past the first round of the tournament than B12, and I'd guess they both end up with 2-3 in the Sweet 16.
But the point is I think it's stupid to discount what Kentucky is doing because of the opponents. In my opinion they're pretty clearly ahead of the pack right now. But that could definitely change in the next month. -
hoops23Both the SEC and ACC are top heavy, but I think the ACC's top 4 are better overall than the SEC's top 4...
I think UK is the best team within the two conferences though. -

Who is discounting what Kentucky is doing? I just don't think they're the clear favorites in the NCAA tourney.Mulva;1081564 wrote:Just based on ability and not seeing the bracket, I'd bet more SEC teams advance past the first round of the tournament than B12, and I'd guess they both end up with 2-3 in the Sweet 16.

Just for funsies... top 100 RPI ratings
SEC:
3. UK
14. Florida
27. Vandy
28. Bama
34. MSU
55. Ole Miss
73. Arkansas
78. LSU
B12:

B12 definitely better at the top. SEC definitely better in the middle. Just my opinion. -
SportsAndLady
You can't post the RPI rankings and say the SEC's middle is better..then say it's your opinion.Mulva;1081583 wrote:Maybe not discounting what they're doing, but discounting how good they've been looking while doing it?

Anyone can look at RPI and say which is better...it's the SEC.
Look at the teams in the middle and who you'd rather put money on..it's the Big 12 teams. -
Mulva
I already said I'd take Vandy, MSU, and Alabama (even throw in Ole Miss and Arkansas) over ISU, KSU, and Texas any day of the week, so I disagree.SportsAndLady;1081596 wrote:Look at the teams in the middle and who you'd rather put money on..it's the Big 12 teams.
But back to the Notre Dame talk... -
SportsAndLadyVandy, MSU, and Bama? Lol come on..
I mean it's your opinion so it's kinda pointless to argue this.
We hear EVERY year about Vandy, they never do shit. Bama has some MISERABLE losses this year, and ZERO good wins. Mississippi State I guess is alright, but...
Idk, I guess I just don't see it -
athlete37Irish win number 6 in a row to get to 9-3 in the Big East. 97 and 7 in last 104 home games (45-4 in BE I think?). With Rutgers and Nova on deck there's no reason to think this won't stretch to 8 in a row
-
athlete37Jack Cooley's average stat line for the week:
81% FG% (17/21)
75% FT% (9/12)
21.5 Points
13 Rebounds
2.5 Blocks
0 Turnovers -

I've been very impressed with Cooley this year. He's really been great on the boards and getting 2nd chance points -
athlete37also a note, 9-3 in the BE despite being underdogged in 9 or 10 of those games

Crimson streakThe Irish crack the top 25. 23 in the ap poll and 25 in the USA today poll
