Bielien's offense is so bad or Ohio State's defense is so good that Michigan improved Ohio State's Big Ten defensive average at home. It is now down to 52 PPG.

I would think it's quite obvious Ohio State has a better chance of doing that than any other Big Ten team.

Thats why MSU has three final fours in the time that Matta has one at OSU?

NO OTHER Big Ten coach has more than 2 since Matta has been in the Big Ten. Very difficult to put down the coach that is twice as successful as all of the other Big Ten head coaches.
So Ohio State judges its coaches on conference titles?

Man, Bill Self needs to coach at OSU, he'd get a 10 million dollar raise...considering he's got 7 conf. titles in a row

    That is absolutely terrible logic

Maybe in Matta's first few years. Its time for FFs and NCs

I agree about Loving and Nigel. Not sure why so many of the recruiting services have Loving ahead of Nigel but Nigel brings more to the game than Loving, IMO. I would take Hayes ahead of Loving. I really like Donnal's game.

As far as your other players, is Cookie Monster(wtf?) ahead of Vito Brown(I don't know his class, I believe UM is looking at him too) or Getty's? I think so but haven't seen much of Brown and when I did he seemed disinterested. Also, Getty's is just big(reminds me of Storm Stanley).

Lol, I meant to say playing 4th best but I still have him 3rd. Brown is a junior I believe and very good. But he fouls a lot. Donnas went off for like 40 vs him 1 on 1. Gettys sucks, IMO. I'd have brown 5th in nwo

He knows what he is doing. I'm not going to question him because I remember how it was before he was the coach.

I still remember a thread on the old site where everyone was talking about the state championship game Northland vs. Princeton. It was almost entirely guys who had not watched any HS basketball all year, but went to the championship game and thought it made them experts on who were the best prospects. This was before Weatherspoon was offered by Matta. Sully was basically double and triple teamed the whole game and JD went off for like 30 or something with a bunch of highlight dunks. EVERYONE, almost every poster in the thread was bashing and questioning Matta. They were so sure that he made the wrong choice and should have offered JD INSTEAD of Sully. I laughed at them back then and I'm still laughing about it now.
Fair enough. I was more asking why that's the default answer, not that you have to disagree with Matta, it's his boring to debate stuff when hats the counter argument. I like pols opinions on here, even when I disagree so is like to hear YoUR thoughts, not that you trust ur coach. Hope that makes sense.
GFU :). But forreal, commenting on an OSU recruit when an OSU fan asked about him should be ok on an OSu college thread.

See my answer from above. That is so boring and a cop out. Not that it's 100% wrong. But how about you enter the debate and admit you haven't seen enough of someone (or whatever the topic is, you don't know enough to make a judgment) and say so because of that I'll trust Thad.

If you can make your own judgement on said player or situation or whatever do so. If its the same as Matta at least you brought your own thoughts to he table and didn't resort to the "I'll trust the coach who has 57777 big ten titles over a random guy on the Internet" commets

On top of that, Craft forced him into 5 turnovers. 5 asst. 5 turnovers is not a stat line you want from PG position. Again, he had a nice game and I was impressed. But he never got on a roll or took over game. So I wouldn't call that a huge factor. Hardaway was the player that kept them in game for a while.
Late in the game? He didn't score in the last 5 minutes of the game, I believe. I remember hearing he had 13 points w/ about 5 min left and thinking he'd end up with ~17 points or so w/ garbage time points.

I agree he wasn't a "huge factor" (how can you be a huge factor when your team loses anyways lol), but the guy had a very good game, which I realize you said this already. He had a better game than Craft though, which is my point. Craft didn't have a bad game or anything, actually had a pretty good game. But it's clear to me that Matta regrets not offering Burke. Kids a fuckin stud.

I was happy to see OSU clamp down at the end of the game and close it out. I was expecting a mini-run from UM, but it just didn't happen. Sully had an off game, but he was a beast at the end. It was a solid team win, everyone doing their part.

Better game? U fucking kidding me? Did you even watch? Craft forced him into a number of turnovers(5 total). That is A LOT for a PG.
    Craft - 3/4 - 7pts
    Burke - 5-11 - 13pts
    Craft - 4 asst.
    Burke - 5 asst.
    Craft - 2 turnovers
    Burke - 5 turnovers

On top of that, Craft totally controlled the tempo of this game. He directed HIS team offensively, and again disrupted on defense. I believe he picked Burke at least twice defensively.
Yes, Burke played a "nice" game. But OVERALL, both ends of the floor, Craft had the better game.

Don't let your OSU HATE blind ur judgement. Wow

And what OSU fan doesn't want this? Its not as simple as it seems. Not making excuses, but it does take time to get there. Coach K was a head coach for 16yrs before winning his first. Jim Boeheim took 26yrs! Bill Self, 15yrs. Just to name a few. Matta is still relatively young, 44yrs of age. He is Only in his 12th yr overall as a head coach. 8th at OSU. Personally, I think he has done a great job at OSU. He is establishing something, and built them into a top 10 program. I want a national title as much as anyone. And I think if Matta stays at OSU, it will happen eventually. Hopefully sooner rather than later. ;)

I watched the whole game. I don't hate OSU nor do I hate on them. So try a new insult next time, because I'm not a hater. You're just a 50 year old OSU nuthugger who gets his period when someone says something remotely close to negative about OSU. So go fuck yourself!

I totally agree. I remember an argument last year or the year before between OSU fans and that argument is just awful. I like Matta a lot obviously, but that doesn't mean I think every move he makes is the right one.

    Lol this.

Give Izzo the talent OSU has had of late and hed of had them competing in March IMO

I thought Craft just slightly outplayed Burke, but Burke is going to be very good. I also liked the job Scott did on Burke in the first half, was surprised he didn't play in the second half. As for Matta, you can't argue his record, my only complaint and it is just my opinion that he does not develop his bench and this year unlike the past he has a lot of talent sitting on the bench.
  • Midstate01
I really really like Burke. He's a great player. Sure I'd love to have him at osu. That being said, Saying matta regrets taking Scott over Burke is crazy. Burke was sort of a late bloomer. While Scott was Georgia's top player and a McDonald's all American. So from that standpoint, it makes no sense to question it.

Thought craft played great today. And even though Burke played well, I thought craft did a great job on him. Burke had to hit some really tough shots.

Feels great betting Ann arbor community college in both bball and the recruiting war today.

True. But even coach k makes decisions people(fans) question.

Yep. Even the Duke fans on here criticize some things Coach K does. You don't hear them saying "Well, he has X championships and Y Final Fours so he gets a pass" in his defense.

I find myself questioning some moves he makes during games but I keep them to myself for the most part. I don't think anyone really has enough insight to challenge what a coach does from game to game to game. Half a season, at the end of the season, yeah there can be some evaluation from our limited standpoint given we're not in the locker room or practices every day. I see people question minutes and rotations and it just makes me laugh for the most part. I don't see anyone with enough cred on here to be making those calls, if they had 'em they'd be opposing him on the baseline.

It's easy to coach from your living room or a barstool, ain't it? ;)

I'm sure a lot of people heard this yesterday--was that fucking embarrassing or what!
Whoever was in charge of the arena announcer-led "O-H", "I-O" chant during a referee review in yesterday's game should be fired... and I mean everybody.

What has Matta said or done that makes it clear? He recruited a McDonald's All-American over a guy that no big programs was recruiting? Yea, I'm sure Matta is losing sleep over it.
