I didn't get to tune in until 9:00 left in the game. What happened?vball10set;1069779 wrote:I'm sure a lot of people heard this yesterday--was that fucking embarrassing or what!

The PA announcer (I'm assuming) kept saying 'O-H', over and over and over again, and it sounded like some kid hijacked the mic and was goofing around. It was annoying as hell, and the crowd barely even replied--it was really weird.WebFire;1069813 wrote:I didn't get to tune in until 9:00 left in the game. What happened? -

Watching on tv I thought maybe it was OSU players on the video screen. Guess it wasn't by the article -

It was actually a video played on the scoreboard with a couple different OSU players saying "OH". They played it earlier in the game too.vball10set;1069819 wrote:The PA announcer (I'm assuming) kept saying 'O-H', over and over and over again, and it sounded like some kid hijacked the mic and was goofing around. lol--is that what it was? that makes more sense than the PA announcer saying it, but it sure sounded dumb on TV!Y-Town Steelhound;1069829 wrote:It was actually a video played on the scoreboard with a couple different OSU players saying "OH". They played it earlier in the game too. -
centralbucksfanTo address the LOVE OSU fans have for Matta, I will say this. First of all, personally, I have not agreed with all he has done. That being said, into his 8th yr, its hard to get on the guy to be honest. He is a CLASS act. By all accounts, he is doing things the right way. He has OSU basketball in a place it hasn't been in a LONG, LONG time. The guy says and does all the right things. He isn't some whinny bitch in the sidelines like others. I don't believe I have ever seen or heard him criticize another coach or program. To the contrary, he gives them respect, always. If there is another coach I would compare him to in how he goes about doing things and acting, it would probably be Bill Self. I have been around him in the past during summer camps, and he takes time to speak with everyone, and work with kids. Is he perfect? Absolutely not. Do I agree with every move he makes? No. He is a players coach and I think that resonates everywhere else. Sure I'd like to see a final four or more. But again, I pointed out how long it has taken some of the greats to get their first. Right now, he has OSU in the hunt on any given year. Which I will take. If he stays at OSU, I think it will happen. Hopefully sooner rather than later. RIght now, with how Matta fits in at OSU, I wouldn't trade him for another coach in the country.

Hb31187You 100% honestly wouldnt take any other coach in college basketball ? O.o
-
AutomatikTaking into account his age, past/current success, and recruiting I can honestly say I wouldn't either.

Not saying he is the best coach. But no, right now, I wouldn't. He is a perfect fit at OSU IMO.Hb31187;1069963 wrote:You 100% honestly wouldnt take any other coach in college basketball ? O.o -
Hb31187Just curious as to what you think he brings to the table as OSU coach and how he fits in that other top coaches wouldnt bring to the table.

I'm looking at it from the standpoint of where the program is now compared to where it was before Matta. I'm sure other big name established coaches could have similar success.Hb31187;1069980 wrote:Just curious as to what you think he brings to the table as OSU coach and how he fits in that other top coaches wouldnt bring to the table. -

Indeed. I love conference titles and great national rankings, but when it ends in the Sweet 16, it's more than a bit deflating.LJ;1069476 wrote:Imo its time to start winning national titles, or at the very least consistent final four appearances. -

How is this so obvious??? If I were Matta I wouldn't trade Craft for Burke. If I were BeIlein I wouldn't trade Burke for Craft. But it's clear to me that Matta regrets not offering Burke. Kids a ****in stud.
They both played winning basketball yesterday and they both give their teams what they need. -

At least one of them did.Prescott;1069996 wrote:They both played winning basketball yesterday -
se-alumI really like Matta, and I'm glad he has been able to turn around Ohio State basketball. However, I've never thought Matta was a great in-game coach. He's a phenomenal recruiter and a great face for OSU basketball though, and I hope he's at OSU for a long time.

Again, I never said he's going to lose any sleep or even make it that big of a deal...I simply said in his head he has probably gone "shit I should have recruited Burke." something that simple lol stop making this into such a big deal.se-alum;1069788 wrote:What has Matta said or done that makes it clear? He recruited a McDonald's All-American over a guy that no big programs was recruiting? Yea, I'm sure Matta is losing sleep over it.
Just because the almighty Thad Matta doesn't come out and say it doesn't mean you can't challenge it. -

It's similar to Rick Barnes at UT. OF COURSE he's going to recruit, it's Ohio State! But can he make enough adjustments to win with these players. Can he control the egos? Can he find enough balance on the court (front court vs back court)?
Not saying Matta can't do any of those, but you need to do all that and then some to win a national championship. -
stlouiedipalmaMatta is just right for OSU basketball. He has given the program stability and high school players who are considering coming to Columbus know that they will be playing for a top-tier program. I don't think anyone expected national championships to fall out of the sky when he came, but after the problems with O'Brien the program needed someone to come in and right the ship. The success he has enjoyed is all the more rewarding when you see that there are no off-the-court issues with his players.
Isn't it great to be discussing going farther than the Sweet Sixteen? It wasn't that long ago we were hoping there wouldn't be any additional scandals to surface.
I wouldn't trade him for anyone else coaching college basketball right now.
Besides, with Bruce Pearl gone, he now leads the country in heavy perspiration among active coaches. -

I don't know, you've still got Frank Martin and Rick Majerus out there sweatin' away :laugh:stlouiedipalma;1070046 wrote: Besides, with Bruce Pearl gone, he now leads the country in heavy perspiration among active coaches. -

sleeperMatta is a top 3 coach in the country. He's the best if you don't allow cheating coaches like Coach K and Coach Calipari.

It wasn't long ago, that Self was right were Matta was/is. Again, it took Self 14yrs to win a title. And that at Kansas, a pretty good gig, with better tradition and more focus on bball. Matta is in his 12th year as a head coach. As I mentioned above, look at how long it has taken some guys to win their first title. It took many great ones a LONG, LONG time to get there. And in this day and age where there is MUCH more talent nationally, it makes it even more difficult. He has done all of the above IMO. He has been to a title game already. Winning a title is obviously not easy. Many things have to go your way, little luck here and there, getting hot at right time, the tourney draw can help, etc, etc. etc. Things have to fall into place, no question. UConn last year is a primse example. Were they the best team in the country overall last year? Hell no. But things fell right into place for them.SportsAndLady;1070028 wrote:This.
