    Funny ass read right here.

What do you asshats want to hear? "Yeah we're pretty unhappy to be in contention every year since Matta has become coach."

    Lol...lame debate

Matta may be a step below Williams, Self, Coach K, etc., but he's head and shoulders above any coach in the B1G (not named Izzo)...and, IMO, he has to be considered among the top 10 D1 coaches in the country.

I agree we're not on the level of those three yet, but we're a lot closer than we've ever been before. I'm curious to see who etc would be.
    Izzo,Calipari,Boheim, Calhoun

In the same time frame Izzo is

    2004/2005 - final four
    2005/2006 - 1st round
    2006/2007 - 2nd round
    2007/2008 - sweet 16
    2008/2009 - NCAA runner up
    2009/2010 - final four

I agree that's better, but not a lot and he didn't have to clean up the mess that Matta walked into.

x's and o's and recruiting are not mutually exclusive...but detractors view it as such

Every team has had let downs int he tourney, even marquee programs. Duke was awful for years in the tourney, Syracuse has had early exits, Kansas, you name it basically. The tournament format doesn't reveal who the best team in the country is, it reveals the hottest team with the best/most favorable match ups.

It seems like you're seeking out someone to complain about a coach. Maybe you should start a thread about Beilein's terrible 2nd half offense yesterday?

Boeheim has one National Championship in 35 years of coaching. Cal has been to one unvacated Final Four. Calhoun was 13 years in before he won a NC. Izzo has one NC in 17 seasons. Matta has one Final Four appearance. I'll give you Calhoun, but Matta is right there with the other guys.

So 1 final four puts him right there with Izzo and Boheim and Coach Cal(even if vacated, he still coached that team to where they got to, its not like they used performance enhancers)

Yea, I think he is. Given that he hasn't been a head coach that long, and completely turned around a program that was way down. So having Derrick Rose as opposed to not having Derrick Rose had no difference. He used illegal players.

LOL...so where does that put him?

    Funny shit

Puts him easily behind 3 HOF coaches. How the hell does 1 final four put him in the same class as those guys?
  • Automatik
    Ok, he's behind those guys.

And your point is? I'm still failing to see it.

I can agree that Matta is behind anyone with a title. But you have to admit he's not far behind and that's some great company to be not far behind. He has a lot of time to catch them.

Being more accomplished does not make one a better coach. Too many variables to judge coaching ability on wins alone.

Prescott;1070290 wrote:Being more accomplished does not make one a better coach. Too many variables to judge coaching ability on wins alone.
Especially when one coach has been coaching for 1/3rd the time as some of the others.

But I do agree that you can't say one coach is on the same level as other coaches when they the other coaches have titles. You do have to win one to get into that conversation IMHO.
  • Prescott
Who does more with less better than Bo Ryan?
  • Hb31187
Calhoun-3 national titles, 4 final fours
Izzo-1 national title 6 final fours
Boheim-3 final fours and a national title
Cal-3 final fours( yeah yeah i know, 2 vacated)

So maybe Matta is on par with Cal somewhat, but the other ones its not THAT close

I agree hes not far behind, just dont see how someone could say hes not real far behind them lol
