I said there is no debate; he's not the best PG in the country. Is he the best PG FOR OHIO STATE, that is up for debate, sure. But not the best in the country.

I like both Craft and Scott, but good god Ohio State has to have the worst free-throw shooting PG's in the country. I cannot for the life of me understand why Craft in particular is so terrible from the foul line. 67%? That is pitiful.

Don't worry vball, I didn't expect you to respond to this

Sorry, I was watching "We are Marshall"-lol....now, I read your post, but I have no response since it makes no sense. I said "it's up for debate" because everyone has a different opinion, and that's what constitutes a debate. Again I, nor anyone else on here, said Aaron Craft is the BEST in the country. Anything else?

To Shannon Scott defense, his circumstance is a bit different than Trey. Ohio State already had an established point guard. Trey is the only point guard on the Michigan roster, so he didn't have to compete as much, which made it arguably easier for him to start. I guess we have to see as time go by if Burke was a 'steal' for Michigan or Shannon Scott still was the right pick.

Now you know what Matta thinks too? Please, continue.

Regret? Why? Burke would be doing what Scott is doing now. Seeing limited action. If Morris had returned to Michigan, Burke would be coming off the bench. The kid is good. Not the next coming. I doubt Matta has even wasted 5 min. thinking about this.

Thank you. Maybe your explanation will get through (but I doubt it-lol)

I stand by my belief that Burke would be on the bench behind Craft, but would be putting up better numbers than Scott in a back-up role. So Im not sure how he wouldnt help OSU this year, and moving forward.
Highly doubt he would be helping OSU anymore than Scott is. Why. He wouldn't be getting anymore time than Scott does. OSU would have same record, same results. Better shooter? Yes. How much? Really hard to tell. I mean Burke is only shooting 42% overall, and 33% from 3. And quite honestly, I am not a fan of PG shooting as many times as he does. OSU wouldn't need that, doesn't need that with this team. As the article stated, they have enough volume shooters already.

Laley23;1068541 wrote:Yes. thats true. IU isnt good for 4 years, so we all know Im basketball illiterate /non'd :D

But, I guess my question is, what do you see in Scott that you like more than Burke?

For me, OSU could use a better 3pt shooter and a guy who can create his own shot/penetrate more. Another scoring option off the bench. Scott doesnt really provide that, Burke would. I think they would be a much better team with that kind of production coming off the bench (maybe like 7 ppg, but could go off for 15+) as opposed to Scotts production.

So I just ask, WHAT about Scott make this team better than say, Burke would in a hypothetical situation where they had the same role (back up G position).
For the record, I was pulling your chain on the IU comment, as I know you're an alum an an avid fan. As far as your question goes, it's tough for me to answer since I have only seen Scott in a backup role, and have only seen Burke as a starter. I don't know how Burke would react in the role of a backup, so I can't say if the team would be any better or any worse. This is why I made the comment that I have to rely on my respect for Matta as a recruiter and a coach, 'cause he knows a helluva lot more than I do when evaluating talent, and where it fits into his plans. I don't believe I ever made the statement that Scott makes the Buckeyes any better than Burke would, only that I like what we have, and both kids are in the right program.

IMO, any list for best defensive player in the country, begins and ends with Anthony Davis.

    SportsAndLady;1068515 wrote:No, it's absolutely not.

OSU fans debate that, I have never ever seen any fan outside of OSU consider him one of the best PGs.

And hell I like the guy, I think he's damn good. But come on lol

Seth Davis(take it for what it's worth) has said on twitter he thinks Craft is the best point guard, and its because of defense, obviously. It's just one person, but he is outside of OSU.

And this whole debate is pointless right now. Burke would be doing what Scott is if he were at OSU. We'll see down the road when Scott is going against Burke full time, which probably wont be until their senior years. Scott was a Mickey D's AA so obviously he has talent. And has Matta ever really recruited a scoring PG? Craft obviously isn't, Conley wasn't, and I don't think Scott is either, so Burke just didn't fit what he wants in a PG anyway IMO.

But you haven't pointed out one person who has said, to this point in the season, that Aaron Craft is the best PG in the country, so there really isn't a debate. If I just said "Burke is the best freshman in the country this year" without giving any evidence as to why other than "he scores 14 points a game" and didn't mention one person in the world who has him as the #1 freshman, would you consider tehre to be a debate? No, you wouldn't.

Thank you to terry tate for at least mentioning one person who has made the argument.
    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/seth_davis/11/30/duke.ohiost/index.html

But again that was back in November. I really don't think Craft's had as good a season to put him as the #1 PG. I'll tweet Seth Davis and see if he'll respond w/ his best PG right now, he's usually pretty good at returning them.

Good point. But I would argue his best stretch as a coach (2nd half of Oden/Conley) is when Conley took over and was 509643059682x more aggressive offensively. Took them all the way to the title game.

NOW YOU KNOW WHAT MATTA THINKS!! YOU CAN'T POSSIBLY KNOW WHAT MATTA THINKS!!

No but in all seriousness, if OSU had Burke coming off the bench he wouldn't be putting up 1.8 ppg. He'd be somewhere in the 6-8 ppg and getting more than 8 mpg. You don't just let talent rot on the bench. Hell Thomas Robinson was behind the Morrii twins, and he was able to get more than 1.8 ppg.

post defender vs. perimeter defender, but he is a good one (and I should've put that in my post, but we were talking guards and wasn't thinking about big men when I said 'one of the best')

cbf said 'he doubts that Matta thinks', where you said you 'know' what he thinks...also, again, you have no idea what Burke would be getting off the bench at OSU, because, as numerous posters have pointed out, he'd be in the same situation as Scott. You're ASSUMING he'd get more time based on his success at tsun, but what's to say Scott wouldn't be playing lights out elsewhere if he wasn't sitting behind a player like Craft at OSU? Pure speculation on your part, that's all.

Yeah this is a debate because it's actually possible. lol. Aaron Craft the best PG in the country=not possible.

"ASSUMING he'd get more time based on his success at tsun" uhhh no, i'm assuming he'd get more time because he's a pretty good player. And you don't give pretty good players 8 minutes a game. This is 2012 college basketball, where freshman get a lot of playing time. Unless of course, your freshman just aren't that good. You seriously think the coaching staff at OSU sees that Scott is really good, but keep him on the bench? They want him to "wait his turn"? Behind Aaron Craft?

Again, no one has said hes the best PG, well other than Seth Davis, but you did say it's up for debate whether he's the best. So that means you think that he could be. He's not.
