OSU Coaching Staff

OneBuckeyeYou Fickell haters need to GTFO.
There are reports that PSU DL coach Larry Johnson has been offered that position at OSU By UFM. That would give us 5 defensive coaches. LJ is a prick, but one of the best recruiters in the northeast. I am not sure how much I like this offer. I doubt it happens. He could be a candidate for the PSU HC position. -

Meyer is prick to, but he gets the job done, so nobody really cares. LJ always seems to have a strong DL, and he's a great recruiter. I'll take him if he wants to join.OneBuckeye;1019750 wrote:You Fickell haters need to GTFO.

He may be a great recruiter, I have no idea. I do know that ever since Meyer has taken over, we have been getting big time recruits left and right. Many were not even on our radar before Meyer came on. I'm not worried about any kind of drop-off if he happens to leave.se-alum;1019747 wrote:I'd say you're roughly 100% wrong. Why would he want one of the best recruiters in the country to leave? You can attribute alot of the recruiting success to Fickell, he stayed in the ear of recruits, and as soon as the coaching situation was solidified, they started flipping. -

I'm just saying that I'm sure Meyer doesn't want Fickell to leave, as one poster suggested.jordo212000;1020015 wrote:He may be a great recruiter, I have no idea. About the only thing you can attribute to Fickell is that he is no longer the head coach. OSU would probably have seen a lot of potential recruits bail out if Luke were still HC.
I also believe in my gut that Meyer had no choice regarding Fickell. I think he had to retain him in order to throw him a bone and keep the trustees happy. Fickell did the dirty work this season and his reward was a job next year. I believe that if he gets the Pitt job Meyer will have a replacement named before the ink is dry on the Pitt contract. -
Big Gain
Fickell being on staff makes the transition go as smoothly as possible. I think after Meyer's 1st year he would be willing to help Fickell find a head coaching job.se-alum;1020056 wrote:I'm just saying that I'm sure Meyer doesn't want Fickell to leave, as one poster suggested. -

You obviously know nothing about Fickell and his ability to recruit. Recruiting is really what it's all about at the college level, and Fickell is one of the best. You're crazy if you think Meyer wants a guy w/ very strong recruiting ties in Ohio and Western PA to just walk away. He wouldn't have made Fickell the DC if he was just "throwing him a bone", he would've given him an Asst. Head Coach/LB gig.stlouiedipalma;1021280 wrote:About the only thing you can attribute to Fickell is that he is no longer the head coach. I like Fickell and think he is a good solid DC/Recruiter. But you are giving him too much credit to be honest. And with Meyer on board, he would be doing just as well with or without Fickell. Personally, I don't think Meyer had an option on getting rid of Fickell. I think Meyer was told by OSU that he had to keep Fickell. I believe that was part of the deal Fickell had for taking over the mess Tressel left. Meyer consistantly had top 5 classes at Florida. And he will have top 5 classes at OSU as well. Sure Fickell would help. But if he leaves, Meyer/OSU won't miss a beat recruiting wise IMO.se-alum;1021421 wrote:You obviously know nothing about Fickell and his ability to recruit. Nice, I was a little worried that Houston was going to offer him to be their head coach.jordo212000;1022852 wrote:Just saw on Twitter that Withers will be announced as a coach soon -
wildcats20Withers is co-defensive coordinator/assistant head coach and Vrabel will remain as LB coach.

LJHeard an interview with Herman last night. When asked his offensive philosophy he said
"Physical, fast, spread the field and run the ball" -
OneBuckeyeZach Smith hired at WR coach. Not a surprise.

If he would have added "and win" at the end of that sentence I would have creamed.LJ;1023819 wrote:Heard an interview with Herman last night. When asked his offensive philosophy he said

Urban Meyer has named Zach Smith, the grandson of Earle Bruce, as his wide receivers coach. Smith comes to Ohio State from Temple where he served for one year as wide receivers and special teams coach for an Owls team that won nine games, including its first bowl win in 32 years. The Dublin Coffman grad graduated from Florida and worked for five seasons with Meyer in Gainesville, first as a graduate assistant and then as a quality control assistant. -
ytownfootballLooking like Tim Hinton RB coach currently at ND is going to be joining the OSU staff as TE coach. He's deflected the rumor but it's been tweeted by Brandon Castel and he's been pretty spot on. Tough loss for ND as he's a strong recruiter with Ohio ties.

ytownfootballIf true, and it seems legit from the sources, that would only leave the OL coach outstanding. Studrawa is the guy that a lot seem to think will be the guy, though I've also read he signed an extension at LSU though that can't be confirmed yet.

Hinton is a great pick up. The longer this drags out the more I think we get Studrawa. The OL coach rumors seem to bee not coming out prehaps because we are waiting on Stud.ytownfootball;1029724 wrote:If true, and it seems legit from the sources, that would only leave the OL coach outstanding. Scarlet_BuckeyeDoes anyone know if Herman coached ISU in their bowl game? ISU's offense did not look very good.

I didn't watch the game. Did the offensive scheme look bad, or the players? You can only work with what you got, and I have to assume that Iowa State doesn't get a whole lot to work with.Scarlet_Buckeye;1032114 wrote:Does anyone know if Herman coached ISU in their bowl game? Tiger2003I am pretty sure he did coach the bowl game.

Honestly, I wasn't paying THAT close attention (family was over during the game so I was quite distracted), but (from what I saw) the Cyclone's looked pretty inept at moving the ball.vball10set;1032160 wrote:I didn't watch the game.
