OSU Coaching Staff

I like Withers because his defenses attack, and the secondary reaps the benefits of a hurried QB. His secondaries have been interception machines pretty much everywhere he has been.

Will Withers be the DC along with Fickell? Has anybody found out what Fickell's official title will be?
  • rightfield
Fickell will be calling the defensive plays.

Anything to back this up? I think it would be strange for a guy like Withers who is a damn good DC to come to OSU just to be a Secondary coach. My guess would be Withers and Fickell as Co-DC's, while Withers also coaches the Secondary, and Fickell is Asst. HC.

Meyer announced this today on 97.1 The Fan that Fick would call plays

Thanks, interesting that Meyer could get Withers without him being the DC.

uggh I was hoping Akron would take Fickell off our hands. I was fine with him being assistant head coach and LB coach. Not a fan of him being "the guy" defensively. He showed me little to zero leadership on the sideline this past season and more often than not, he had a scared / puzzled look on his face.
  • rightfield
Those details will get worked out as they go but Fickell is going to get every chance to develop into a top notch DC under the watchful eye of Urban and the people Urban puts around Luke to help him. He wont hurt the defense- Fickell nor Urban will let that happen.

So one year of a job he wasn't ready for overrides several seasons of being one of the top assistants in the country?

Now that Fickell is allowed to concentrate solely on his defense, and not have to be concerned with all the other stuff that's invloved with being the head coach, he's going to be fine.

Meyer said in the interview, that Fickell does not yet have a title. Meyer is not someone who is hung up with titles. He mentioned Fickell could have a "co" next to his name.

"But insiders say Meyer is going to want a defense run by consortium rather than dictation, which explains why he shied away from former Arizona coach Mike Stoops and apparently has zeroed in on Everett Withers, the interim coach at North Carolina."

How would anybody know he was a top assistant? It was Heacock's defense

If he was co dcoord, wouldnt it hace been Fickell and Heacock's defense?
  • zach24oz
I'm pretty sure Heacock has been head over the D for the past few years, he just has other defensive coaches with "CO" around their title.

    No.

    Jordo and Zach GTFOWTS. Seriously.

And you know for a fact Fickell had nothing to do with it?
  • zach24oz
So you all think Fickell has been the head guy over the D for the last few years? Seriously? From what I have seen and heard he took over being the main guy after Dantonio left. Not saying Fickell hasnt been a big or little part of the D's success, just saying I dont think he has been making the calls on D as other people seem to think.

On topic Tim Hinton ND RB coach I believe is close to being the TE Coach at OSU. The staff is shaping up to look like this.

    QB: Tom Herman
    RB: Stan Drayton
    WR: Zach Smith
    TE: Tim Hinton
    OL: Jim Turner
    DL: Luke Fickell
    LB: Mike Vrabel
    CB: Taver Johnson
    S: Everett Withers

It's the opinion of people actually in the game, they know.
