He's in his mid 60s and there were reports that he had problems adjusting to some of the offenses OSU played this year. Perhaps he's decided it's time to call it a career. I've seen nothing to suggest he is being retained.
Yeah, Heacock is gone. I heard his office was cleaned out right after the Michigan game.

OSU offered Stoops a little of over a million to be DC, but it doesn’t look he is going accept. That is what I was referring to when I said a new era of paying assistants. I don’t get the impression it’s going to be right in line with what Michigan is paying, or anyone else in the Big Ten. It’s going to be more, and possibly a lot more.

I like Heacock, wish him the best. He's an underrated defensive coach who's crafted teams that are just studs on defense.
  • vball10set
^^they sure as hell weren't studs this season, especially in the second half

Ohio State asked for and received NCAA approval to exceed the limit of football coaches on staff through the Buckeyes' bowl game.

But only if it's a Stoops. They aren't going to pay that kind of money just because. And I think that list of names is very short.

    Herman is the OC.

I heard reports earlier, but thought it was bad info and that he was only QB coach.

I'm guessing he wasn't on the $1m list.

Herman is exactly the type of guy who can work for Meyer because he is young, energetic and will recruit 24/7. He is also very highly regarded as a young offensive guy. He will most certainly be gone for a head coaching job in a few years though which makes this an interesting move.

I thought Meyer was going to get who ever he wants and that OSU will pay whatever? Doesnt appear that way.

Based on what I've read, I really like the hire.

So far there's no reason to believe his staff won't be as good as any in the country.

 I don't understand...did someone Meyer want choose not to join his staff because OSU refused to pay what he was asking? please explain

You guys acted like Stoops was on board, you were going to get Stud, the guy from Clemson..............
Getting an Iowa St guy for QB coach and THEN making him OC also, shows you dont/cant get everyone you want. I think there's others I read that Meyer has tried to get (cant remember their names) that they havent got. If OSU was willing to spend the money (something they never have done for assistants), then you guys wouldnt of hired Herman for both QB and OC coach.
  • Midstate01
To be honest i wanted stud for oline. That was all. But to get him I would have been cool with him being oc. But this guy is great with qb's and is young and has had a lot of success with not do talented teams. So I'm on board. I trust Meyer will hire who he wants. I'm sure there will be guys he want who decline or get pay days at their current schools. That's fine!!

Haven't read any of the links, so this might have been mentioned, but Herman is a Mensa member, and by most all counts, quite the offensive mind. We'll see how it works out. Don't hate the hire.

Unless you have inside info, and I'm 99.9% sure you don't, you have no idea how the hiring of Herman worked. I would bet everything I own, that Herman was hired as the OC from the very beginning. They didn't just make him the OC, cause they couldn't get anyone else. Sure, they may have lost Morris, but who is gonna pay an OC that kind of money if they've never won anything? I realize you're scared of what OSU may become with Meyer at the helm, but don't act like you know anything about Herman's hiring process.

    Yeah. Scared. To death.

So what source told you Herman was hired as a QB coach, then made the OC cause they couldn't find anyone else?
  • cats gone wild
Didnt say they couldnt find someone else. I knew they were looking and no one accepted. Right? I said they cant/dont get everyone they want.
Did you know that the OSU DC Paul Haynes just went to Arkansas?

Paul Haynes was never the DC at OSU.

But, its sure funny how multiple tweets and this story says he is the "co" DC of OSU.
