Buckeyes Approach Urban Meyer

  • imex99
Urban's right hand man coming to Ohio State

a name you might not know---but you will...

MARK PANTONI----formerly Director of Football Administation at Florida will be joining Meyer starting Wednesday.

Mark will be Director of Football Operations at OSU and will coordinate all recruiting efforts from OSU's standpoint.

He will organize a Friday Night Lights type of program at Ohio State

He will be the main administrative interface between OSU and high school coaches.

He will organize, coordinate and administer all the camps for Ohio State.

When it comes to recruiting----there is NO ONE that Urban leans on harder than Pantoni----and he is now going to be a Buckeye.

    Big get.

Even in California, Lane Kiffen and USC only led 41% to 38% for Urban Meyer and OSU.

Agreed, Fickell isn't head coaching material yet, but he put himself out there in a tough situation and held things together somewhat while the powers that be at OSU tried to self-vacate this season as well.

Glad that everything is finally becoming official. I'm excited to see the bump in recruiting. We need some WRs. I have a feeling that most of the guys who logged a lot of PT this year, will not be happy with the PT they get next year.

I think we'll be seeing a lot of young waterbug types on the team next year.

And I was scorched for saying this early on in the season.

nah some of us were talking about this the other day. Aside from being emotional, it doesn't look like Vrabel provided much. It is inexplicable that Storm Klein played as much as he did, while Shazier stood on the sideline.

    Figures, Fickell staying on staff.

Again... I pretty much said that at the beginning of the season and was lambasted on here.

Rumored to be defensive coordinator. But nothing is confirmed.

    What about Durkin?

I'm anxious just to see the kind of recruits he will pull in over the next few years...the kind of talent and speed he will bring in from the south east. There is already good young talent, but mixed with his recruits I'm getting pumped to see what's going to happen. Also curious to see what's going to happen with the defensive staff and who wil be the other Offensive coaches.

Im not seeing what my source was wrong about? When he got his current job it was offered and accepted before it was posted, then they had to wait 9 days before the employment contract could be signed.

If negotiations were still going on last night, how were you right about it being a done deal last wed?

Your source is feeding you crap. There are no negotiations to be done, its over and a done deal. Anything your source tells you is false and just giving you lines so he doesn't lose his job due to a legal technicality. My source is always right, and they say its a done deal, no question about it.

Not sure we can afford to take anymore WR's, unless Urban pulls offers from committed players. We already have 4 committed in the 2012 class.

From my reporter buddy @BenAxelrod on twitter:

Fickell, Meyer, Griffin, Schottenstein. Wonder when this was taken? Interesting.

I'm thinking he may pull a couple and try and pickup better ones...like some of top ones out of FLA or try and go after the #1 wr in the class...Wouldnt that be a huge land.
  • chicago510
Hopefully Urban has a few good DBs and LBs on speed dial. Thats what this team really lacks right now.

you two are nuts. Vrabel brings NFL cred and superbowl rings. Word is he may not have players the right way in the locker room. That may have been his biggest fault. I don't think it is/was 100% his decision to play Klien over Shazier. They were probably being careful with Shazier because he is a true freshman. That is how Tressel would have don it and so that is how Fickell did it. Same thing with Miller. Sweat and Sabino both played well this year. I would have liked to see Curtis Grant more, but I assume they are taking their time with him too. If you give him credit for Kliens bad play you need to give him credit for Shazier's quick development.

I think the thing that kill OSU LB'ers this year is Tyler Moeller. He was not the same player and most of the time they were playing a 4-2-5 with Moeller in the star. I thought we would have been better off with Bryant playing the star. Unfortunatly Ohrian Johnson played so bad at safety at the beginning of the year Bryant had to play there.

There was not great depth at the saftey and LB'er position this year and that is what killed this defense. Vrabel is a first year coach and a name you want on your sideline. This was also the weirdest situation to spend in the first year of being a coach.
