College Basketball Random Chatter

reclegend22I agree with those who give Davis the edge in the NPOTY race due to his absolute ferocious demeanor on the defensive end. He's probably the most menacing shot blocker since Shaquille O'Neal. The intimidation factor, as cbf pointed out, can't be overrstated. It harkens back to the days of Hoya Paranoia. Davis eats incoming basketballs like they're oranges. It's really pretty remarkable how efficient he is on that end of the floor.
But I keep saying this and I think it's totally true. If Thomas Robinson wins the award, the right man also won. I think we'll have a similar situation to 2010, when Evan Turner took the Naismith but John Wall received the Rupp Award. Or in 2006, when Adam Morrison won the Chevrolet Truck Player of the Year, but J.J. Redick won all of the major awards (Naismith, Wooden and Rupp). We'll a similar combination of split awards between Davis and Thomas, I imagine. -
SportsAndLadyThis is what Robinson thinks of Davis' defensive intimidation

We did some crowd-sourcing on Twitter yesterday over this very question and it’s clear that there is no consensus on who the NPOY should be. A common refrain that we heard was that Davis is more valuable defensively than Robinson (probably true) and that should therefore make the difference; conversely, Kansas without Robinson in its lineup may look a lot worse than Kentucky would without Davis on its front line (also probably true). Each player is a certain First Team All-American, but the duo will each have two more games over the next seven days to make their final cases to America — UK vs. Georgia and at Florida, and KU at Oklahoma State and vs. Texas. In a too-close-to-call competition, one particularly good or bad game relative to each other could make all the difference. -

This is exactly why no matter who wins NPOTY between Davis and Robinson, the right person will have been chosen.

Have there ever been co-NPOTY's?reclegend22;1098071 wrote:This is exactly why no matter who wins NPOTY between Davis and Robinson, the right person will have been chosen. -

As Sports said, I don't believe so. However, the two most prestigious NPOTY honors, the Wooden and the Naismith, have been split on numerous occasions. As a Duke fan, I can point toward 1986, when Johnny Dawkins won the Naismith and Walter Berry of St. John's the Wooden, and 1989, when Danny Ferry won the Naismith and Sean Elliot of Arizona the Wooden. Never has there been a split of those individual awards, though.vball10set;1098081 wrote:Have there ever been co-NPOTY's?
I think there is a reasonable chance that we see some sort of split this year in terms of one winning the Naismith and one the Wooden. There's also the Rupp Award, too. -
SportsAndLadyYeah I guess I should have said a few of the different NPOY awards have been split..but the general NPOY award is the naismith and that's never been split.

SportsAndLadyWill someone please force Brent Mushberger to retirement

reclegend22Keiton Page is just nasty. He needs zero separation to get off a three. It's just bang. Three me. The kid has 84 points in the last three games and six more tonight (2-for-2 from three and just set the OK State all-time three-point field goal record).
To think he's only 4-foot-7 (ESPN lists him as 5-9 but that's bogus) and averaged 48 per game as a senior in high school. Fun to watch. -
wildcats20He is like the little white guy no one wants on his team in a pick up game. But then just balls out when he's picked up.
-
SportsAndLadyPaige looks like Simple Jack from Tropic Thunder though...so that sucks for him
-
SportsAndLadyI may be biased but Kansas has to be one of the more entertaining teams to watch, as far as dunking and just awesome plays
-
reclegend22Page sucks.
Lol. -
wildcats20lol
"We can take showtime and put it in the garbage can"
Gotta love the General. -
reclegend22Yeah, Bobby's great.
-
SportsAndLadyAgain, my bias is showing
But the NPOY w/ 13.8 points and 7.8 boards a game?!?!
over someone with 17.8 and 12 boards a game?!?! Because he's a really good defender?!?!?
And Kansas has played SEVEN teams in the top ten..and he plays his best games against those opponents. I mean he's your NPOY, I'm sorry! -
wildcats20I mean that was still in his hands....
-
SportsAndLady^Yeah it definitely was lol
I imagine they were reviewing to see if it was a 2 or 3 -
SportsAndLadyThat would have been a DIRTY and1
-
wildcats20And in that review they should have noticed it was a shot clock violation lol.

dont think they are allowed to retroactively overturn that. -

They can't go to the monitor to see if the shot was in time or not?Laley23;1098398 wrote:I

I thought they could but I've only seen it in the last min or so of the game, so maybe it's something that can only be done in the last couple minutes? I don't know..wildcats20;1098401 wrote:They can't go to the monitor to see if the shot was in time or not?
