Azubuike24Wouldn't it be interesting if Miller left for UCLA and Arizona hired Josh Pastner? That would be a heck of a recruiting rivalry, would definitely bring the old UCLA/Arizona rivalry to a whole new level. Zona would be getting the raw end of that deal...but it would be interesting. What about Randy Bennett of St. Mary's?

chicago510We are speculating on Howland right?
Or did I miss something... -
Azubuike24Speculating. However, I just don't see how they can continue on with him, especially if the story tomorrow shows that he really lost control of the program. Clearly, he's lost control of the team the last 2 years, despite quality recruiting. They have been awful. Almost like when Tubby Smith was on his way out at UK. Whether he deserves to get fired or not is up for debate, but is there any reason to hang on another 2-3 years when there isn't much upside?
Meanwhile, you have Sean Miller and Lorenzo Romar really digging their roots on the West Coast. Mike Montgomery and Dana Altman have proven themselves. The WCC and MWC are as strong as ever, and both have looked prime to overtake the Pac 12 in West Coast prestige. I can't see UCLA being able to ride it out with Howland... -
SportsAndLadyJust cannot fathom how you can't be successful at UCLA. The main reason being a blueblood in a historically awful Pac 12. I mean, come on...

Lol. Looking back on that great 1986 Duke team with Johnny Dawkins, which started that incredible run of seven Final Fours in nine years for the Blue Devils, it's amazing to think what might have happened had they instead become the first No. 1 to lose in the first round. Interesting to consider.Azubuike24;1099996 wrote:BTW Reclegend, didn't mention this on here yet...but I'm rooting for Duke to get a #1 seed. And they draw Mississippi Valley State in round 1...20th anniversary! Although it would be a story if they face UK as well...but still, just one of many interesting story lines of this year's NCAA Tournament.
While I want no part of Kentucky this year if the cause can be helped, there is nothing like Duke-Kentucky in the NCAAs. It's the greatest tournament rivalry in history and it would be great to see the series renewed in, say, a national final Just not another regional. Not this year. -

That's kind of what I was hinting at in my post above (Miller leaving for UCLA). I just wasn't sure if he'd jump to another school in conference. Jumping from one power to another would be unheard of I imagine in most big-time conferences. For example, I can't imagine a hypothetical coach in the Big East leaving Connecticut for Georgetown.Azubuike24;1100000 wrote:Wouldn't it be interesting if Miller left for UCLA and Arizona hired Josh Pastner? But I'm with Laley. Sean Miller at UCLA would not only be waking a sleeping giant, it'd be injecting it with crystal meth. With Miller in Westwood, immediately the Left Coast has a competitive alternative to UNC and Duke on the East. That's definitely not the case right now. -

Sean Woods coaches Miss Valley State. He'll get another crack at Duke if they are a 1 seed. I'd bet my house on it.reclegend22;1100018 wrote:Lol. Azubuike24The SI article DESTROYS Ben Howland. I don't have any doubt he gets fired. What a strange ranger...explains all of the transfers the last few years. Transfers who are tearing it up at other schools.

GOONx19Bob Knight was on Mike & Mike this morning and was asked to name his top 5 teams and players. Didn't include Kentucky or any UK players on either list lol. I'd say he's still holding on to that rivalry.

I think it's more like Knight does not like the Calipari way.Didn't include Kentucky or any UK players on either list lol. I'd say he's still holding on to that rivalry. -

Not that I disagree with the top selections. But after looking at that entire list, the guy lost complete credibility with many others on that list. wow.SportsAndLady;1100467 wrote:http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/50504/wooden-watch-kings-poy-ballot-2 -
Little DannyBig games for my Bearcats tonight against Marquette. With a win I think UC would lock down a spot in the NCAA. Lose and they will need to beat Villanova and a couple games in the BET.
Game will be on ESPN2 at 7pm. -

Now. My grandfather (not here anymore) associated Branch McCracken with IU basketball, even when Bobby got his 3rd title to pass McCracken. IUs court is named the "Branch McCracken Court" (which makes Dick Vitale look like an idiot every time he says IU should name the court after Bobby.vball10set;1100707 wrote:...but still is, and always will be, the face of IU basketball
But yes, Bob Knight is the face of IU in todays age. -
SportsAndLadycbf, who did you disagree with on his list?

I think its just illustrating the ratio of possessions to assists per game. -

Used to go to the McCracken camps growing up. Didn't know who he was at the time. -

Ah, didn't make that connection. When you made the quip about Duke and Mississippi Valley State I immediately thought of Duke's single-digit win over Valley in the first round of '86. It's a game that's always mentioned when 16 vs. 1 close calls are discussed.Azubuike24;1100126 wrote:Sean Woods coaches Miss Valley State. He'll get another crack at Duke if they are a 1 seed. Anyway, I couldn't see that ever happening. Sorry, Az, but the Selection Committee would never try to pair Duke with Kentucky in the tournament in any manner that you speak..
That'd be cool, though. -
september63Buckeyes can still get a share of the Big 10 championship. (regular season)
-
wildcats20Only if they avoid the upset tonight at Northwestern.

reclegend22Az,
On a side note, I talked with Sean Woods on the phone a few years back in college for a class article I was doing on the 1992 East Regional Final. Cool guy.
I also discussed the game over the phone with Jerry Tipton. The only thing bigger than his head is his hat. The dude thought he was Howard Cosell. It's too bad an irate Kentucky fan hasn't killed him.
