I actually don't consider UK to be the big favorite. But I realize i'm one of the few and can understand the argument as to why they are.Laley23;1096106 wrote:I would think it validates only what most believe. Kentucky is a big favorite.
Just don't think running through (read: blowing out) the SEC schedule means you're playing better ball than others.
When it comes down to it (the elite 8), UK will have the same risk of losing than any other team there (outside of maybe a cinderella team, whose pinnacle would be the E8). -

Liked your other post better..too bad you took it down. And I am another one who doesn't think Kentucky is a clear cut favorite.Laley23;1096106 wrote:I would think it validates only what most believe. Kentucky is a big favorite. -
Azubuike24Since Kentucky won it's last title in 1998, I'd say of the 12 national champions, only 4 have been THE clear favorite coming in. Anything can happen. I honestly felt the 2009-10 UK team would eventually overcome deficiencies and win by talent. They didn't make the Final Four. I thought last year after losing on the road to Arkansas and Ole Miss, that Kentucky could go out in the 2nd round. They made the Final Four. It's crazy.

Im not saying I think UK will even win. But when the odds come out, Im guessing they are the top spot by a bit. -

Yeah, the favorite going into the tourney rarely actually wins the title. The tourney is such a crap shoot, it's stupid to choose a "favorite." Now, who is the best team going into the tourney? that's what I would go with..and this year it's gotta be Kentucky.Azubuike24;1096281 wrote:Since Kentucky won it's last title in 1998, I'd say of the 12 national champions, only 4 have been THE clear favorite coming in. MulvaLundardi's update after last night has Xavier, Texas, Northwestern, St. Joe's as the last 4 in.
First 4 out Colorado State, Miami, VCU, South Florida. -
Azubuike24Intersting that he has VCU out. When is the last time the CAA regular season champion missed the tournament?

Azubuike24We can forget USF's resume. 11-7 (at worst) in the Big East puts them in.
They have WVU next weekend, which is another huge game. -
MulvaSouth Florida shouldn't sniff the tournament. They only have 3 decent wins - Seton Hall, Cinci, and Cleveland State, and no great wins. 1-7 against the top 50, only 5 total top 100 wins, and 3 sub-100 losses.
-
Azubuike24Miami beats FSU, which means they are at worst, 9-7 in the ACC. They did it without Reggie Johnson, who was declared ineligible.
Oregon wins at Oregon State for their 20th win, and are now 11-5 in league play. While we all think the Pac 12 sucks, they have benefited from the top teams separating themselves from the bottom. Colorado also beat California earlier as well, putting them at 11-5 in the league as well.
California, 23-7, 13-4 - 0 top 50 wins, 8 top 100 wins, 7 in the Pac 12 - at STAN
Washington, 20-8, 13-3 - 2 top 50 wins (both over Arizona), 8 top 100 wins, 7 in the Pac 12 - at USC, at UCLA
Arizona, 21-9, 12-5 - 1 top 50 win (over Washington), 6 top 100 wins, 5 in the Pac 12 - at ASU
Oregon, 20-8, 11-5 - 1 top 50 win (over Arizona), 5 top 100 wins, 5 in the Pac 12- vs COL, vs UTAH
Colorado, 19-9, 11-5 - 1 top 50 wins (over Arizona), 4 top 100 wins, 4 in the Pac 12 - at ORE, at OSU
Like we know, nobody did ANYTHING out of conference. Therefore, I still only see 2-3 teams getting in. However, seeing that we might end up 5 teams getting 12+ conference wins, the Pac 12 Tournament might have some play-in games. -
SportsAndLadyWhy T-Rob should win NPOY:
Against 8 ranked foes this season T-Rob has averaged 19.8 ppg, 12.3 rpg,55.6 FG%, 76.2 FT%, with 7 DDs and 4 20-pt games
Davis (these are unofficial, taken off of ESPN's website):
13.75 ppg 7.75 rpg 65.38 fg% 81.4 ft%, 1 DD, 0 20pt games -
GOONx19^ I'll take the bait. Against those same teams:
Blocks: Robinson - 0.75, Davis - 5
Steals: Robinson - 0.63, Davis - 2.25
Fouls (which, against post players likely lead to FTs): Robinson - 3.5, Davis - 2.25
Turnovers: Robinson - 3.13, Davis - 1.75
Kentucky has six players who average 9.8 ppg or better, so Davis is not looked to for scoring nearly as much as Robinson. Kansas only has two players above that mark.
Also, you mentioned the FG%. People don't realize how big of a difference that is. Extrapolate the numbers out and Davis would be averaging 21.9 ppg if he attempted as many shots as T-Rob.
Averages are fair, but not totals. The DDs and 20 point games shouldn't count because Robinson has twice as many games to draw from.
Finally, whether it should factor in or not, UK's #1 ranking will help Davis. -
Azubuike24Just an interesting stat from Saturday. Robinson posted 28 and 12, while Davis posted 28, 11 and 6. However, Davis did it in 11 shots.
For the season, that was his 4th game with 22+ points, 8+ rebounds and 6+ blocks. Only three other TOTAL GAMES by an individual has been accomplished this season in all of the NCAA. -

Stats don't tell the whole story. Davis has more talent, more balance offensively around him. He is not the focus offensively that Robinson is. Defensively, he is MUCH better. Its not just the block shots, but there is an intimidation factor where he deters teams from driving, or kicking shots out. Or, how many shots does he alter in a game?SportsAndLady;1097277 wrote:Why T-Rob should win NPOY:

That being said, I really like Robinson. I think as far as POY, its very close. Davis might win it because UK is #1. But IMO, its a tossup. -
swamisezI am firmly in the Anthony Davis POY boat. The guy has been a game changer in every way, and even in the loss to Indiana his lack of presence was felt. Only getting 24 minutes due to foul trouble. If he stays on the floor Kentucky is still undefeated.

Every argument for Davis is for his defense...which yeah he plays incredible defense. But that's DPOY stuff. I realize it counts for NPOY, but I laugh every time the argument is brought up UK fans will say "yeah but Davis has more blocks..less fouls..less turnovers" okay? So use that in DPOY convo, not NPOY.GOONx19;1097284 wrote:^ I'll take the bait. Against those same teams:

Who cares that Robinson shoots more than Davis? Robinson's going to be penalized in the voting because he's the main guy on his team, and Davis is one of 6 players who score double digits? lol stupidest argument ever, imo.
The DDs and 20 point games should count because that tells you a) how many tough teams Robinson has gone up against and b) in those games, he's an absolute beast. He plays his best games against ranked opponents, what a NPOY does. -
SportsAndLadyMaybe we should start a recruiting thread, but there is some life (there was zero before) to Shabazz to KU after he was in for a visit during the mizzou game
http://www.zagsblog.com/2012/02/27/shabazzs-dad-kansas-has-a-real-shot/
Granted, it's still very, very unlikely that happens... -
