jordo212000Interesting. Wonder what the Big East does as a result? Why would the ACC want Syracuse?

chicago510Big East (Football-Wise) and Big 12 are in trouble as it currently stands.

Read the oklahoma realignment thread.Hb31187;899233 wrote:Lol why is this?
Jordo thinks that basketball has ABSOLUTELY ZERO persuasion for realignment talk. Not even .5% -
Little DannySyracuse makes sense to the ACC for a lot of reasons. First off all, the university fits in with a number of ther schools in the conference due to its stellar academics. Second, obvious this are an elite program on the hardwood. Their football team, while down in the past decade or so, has a very rich tradition. What's more (and I know football drives the bus) Syracuse plays the sports that is near and dear to a number of teams heart in the ACC---- Lacrosse. Finally, the Cuse expands the footprint of the ACC into NY. Boston College now has a team that is a long standing rival and closer in proximity than all the ACC schools down south.

Manhattan BuckeyeSyracuse would have already been in the ACC had not the Virginia government intervened and demanded VT get in.

Very good point.Manhattan Buckeye;899273 wrote:Syracuse would have already been in the ACC had not the Virginia government intervened and demanded VT get in.
It's definitely starting to look like the Big East will be done before too long, but I don't think that Pitt will end up in the ACC. Syracuse maybe, but not Pitt. -
GoPensPitt has a greater chance of ending up in the ACC than in the Big 10. (As much as I'd love to have them in the Big 10.

In my opinion basketball prowess only matters to the ACC and Big East. The Pac12, Big 10, and Sec are not interested in basketball. But you are correct, Syracuse would be intriguing for the ACC for basketball reasons, but that would be it. -
End of Line

As for the LAX part, the ACC was already the best in LAX. If Syracuse goes to the ACC they will have; Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, and Duke where they have 12 national title. -
killer_ewokI love Big East hoops so this would kinda suck but the thought of Syracuse playing UNC, Duke, etc every year in hoops plus Pitt coming along is intriguing.
The Uconn and G'town rivalries shouldn't stop for the Orange though. And not playing in the BET at MSG would be a bummer. -

like_thatThis will make one hell of a basketball conference, definitely not football yet. The ACC is being proactive with this move. It looks like there will be 4 super conferences, and if either the ACC or Big East sit on their asses, one conference is going to die. Good for the ACC. The ACC will still be the lesser of the super conferences, but holy hell basketball is going to be no joke.

Looks like Pitt and Cuse have both submitted applications to the ACC. Apparently Baylor and Iowa State have already contacted the Bug East about filling those open spots. Bye bye Big 12...and then there were five...
If this really goes down I think Texas will be in the Big Ten shortly thereafter -
Manhattan BuckeyeLook for the ACC to go all in and go for UConn/Rutgers.
The team that could get really hammered - WVU. -

Haha just think if they get Texas as well. The conference is decent in football just they never really have #1 great team. LAX will just be unreal with Syracuse.like_that;899473 wrote:This will make one hell of a basketball conference, definitely not football yet. The ACC is being proactive with this move. MB UConn I could see in the ACC I don't really know about Rutgers but out of everyone else left in the BE I could see it. -

WVU would end up SEC, they would be fine -

Yeah WVU fits in really well with the SEC.ts1227;899493 wrote:WVU would end up SEC, they would be fine -
Manhattan BuckeyeI'm not sure the SEC would want WVU, what do they add? Another program with questionable academics which already hurts the SEC's reputation (and quite possibly the worst football program for guest atmosphere), no television market, and the opportunity for a team to steal recruits from the southeast region. And craptacular non-revenue sports.
The ACC doesn't want them, why would the SEC? -
SportsAndLadyI'm not sure if I should be nervous or excited right now, as a Rutgers employee lol
-
ts1227The SEC reportedly has already been eyeing up WVU as the 14th, so they obviously see something they like.
-
Manhattan BuckeyeHas anyone but the Mountaineer Sports Network reported such? The SEC would take Okie in a heartbeat, would settle for one of the ACC schools....but if what I'm hearing is correct if the Pitt/'Cuse deal goes through there is a massive break-up fee to leave the conference so perhaps the ACC route isn't an option. What does WVU add? The SEC does have quality non-revenue sports (particularly women's basketball, men's/women's track and baseball - none of which WVU adds to), what does WVU bring in other than a mid-range SEC level (at best) football program and mercurial basketball program, it would be a net loss to the conference.
-edit, BTW I know WVU would LOVE to join the SEC, but I don't know of any SEC fan that wants them.
