  Why would Notre Dame no longer have a reason to stay? They aren't in the conference for football anyway. Even if all of the football schools leave that still leaves like 12 schools in the conference for basketball and other sports. The conference just won't have football anymore, but it will still exist as a conference.
  
  I do think that if all of the football schools left, that it would hurt basketball and reduce the money the conference receives and therefore the payout Notre Dame receives from them, which might make a Notre Dame to the B1G move more likely, which I'm ok with.

  Losing 3 of the top basketball programs in their conference will likely affect their decision, plus the Big East would need to pick up 3 more schools to maintain BCS eligibility. So lose Pitt/Cuse/UConn, pick up TCU (I'm sure ND is thrilled with that) and 3 schools to be named later - that is a precarious position for the conference even in basketball.

  Right, they will probably fold as a football conference, but this has nothing to do with the basketball side of things. The schools that are in the Big East for basketball only don't get any of the revenue generated on the football side. That TV and bowl money is only divided among the football schools in the conference. Now, losing several of their top basketball schools might mean that future contracts to televise Big East basketball aren't as lucrative as they have been in the past, but that doesn't mean they still won't be a viable conference. The amount of money Notre Dame gets from the Big East won't change if the Big East is no longer a football conference.

  If the BE is no longer a football conference, WVU, South Fla, Cincy and L'ville aren't sticking around, they are going to look at other superconference rejects to form a new conference to maintain their football cred. That would leave ND and the midwest/east coast Catholic schools - DePaul, Marquette, SH, SJU, Nova, Providence and G'town. If ND wants that, fine but I'm not sure that it will - and I'm also not sure of your math but that is an 8 team conference, not a 12 team conference.

  The ACC is considering three options as it awaits decisions from Texas and Notre Dame, according to an official. The first one is the league's home run swing at luring both Texas and Notre Dame. Plan B is to invite Texas and Texas Tech. Rutgers and Connecticut are Plan C.

  Looks like Rutgers and Uconn to the ACC then, because I don't see why Tejas would go to the ACC..no way a conference will allow Texas to join with that LHN, and after what they have done to the Big 12.

  Apparently the Big 12 was considering Pitt at some level, so this Pitt to the ACC thing has all of the Big 12 schools worried, hence everyone looking to bail.
  

  The source said Pittsburgh was one of the Big 12's top options as a replacement for Texas A&M, and that when Pitt announced it was going to the ACC, it "clobbered everything" regarding the Big 12's future.

  At least the ACC is being proactive. A lot were figuring the SEC and Big East would consume what good schools they could from the Big XII and ACC. Now, it looks like the Big East is going to turn into a good basketball school with MWC-quality football.

  WVU to SEC
  UConn and Rutgers to the ACC
  Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas Tech to the PAC-16.
  Missouri and Notre Dame to the B1G.
  
  The remaining Big XII schools will snag South Florida, Cincinnati and Louisville (who won't want to be relegated to C-USA) to bring their total to seven. They'd throw in a few C-USA/MWC schools to bring it up to 10 or 12. The likes of Colorado State, Houston, Rice, SMU, UAB (UAB!?), Tulsa (need the OK market for midwest recruiting losing the two big boys there), Boise State, BYU (if they know what's good for them). Let's say CSU, Houston, SMU, Boise State, BYU for now. Gives them media in Dallas, Houston, the northwest (gets the media darling Broncos), BYU (brings the mormons, SLC), Denver area (and a northwest pod for BSU, BYU, and CSU).
  
  They'd keep BCS status for a while, have BCS-buster Boise State in the fold. Would be a half-step between MWC and BCS. Like BCS Lite.

  If several ACC Football schools would get out of their 10-15 year funks, the conference will be extremely well balanced in both sports. A strong FSU, Miami, VT, Clemson, GT, Pitt, and Syracuse get it going, it is definitely decent. Will usually be the 4th best super conference I would think (in football), but could have standout years now and then. In almost every other sport, it is an absolute powerhouse now. Basketball, Baseball, Lacrosse, Soccer, etc. are all great.

  You've gotta think that they are/will try to get out of their new contract if it's going to fold. Adding them and possibly Boise could save the Big XII, if they really wanted to save it.
