The EqualizerYea he said swearing on the sidelines in college doesn't bother him, and specifically kelly's behavior, though over the top didn't anger him as a parent.
-
karen lotzBut...he got really angry!

BUT (and its a huge BUT) to pull off that kind of behavior effectively you have to be the type of coach that players actually have a little fear of. Kelly has no credibility with this type of shit. He's like a harmless little kid that is throwing a tantrum because somebody stole his shovel in the sandbox. The clock re-started big time on his 3 yrs and out after last week's embarrasing loss. No. 2 coming most likely this weekend.
Infinity worse than all of Kelly's yelling combined. -

I'm not saying it was a bad thing, nor am I bashing him or ND for it..but it is pretty embarrassing how pissed off he got; hence, why he was joking about it..he knew he went a little over the top and decided to joke about it.
Still waiting for a few gif's or videos of other coaches reacting like that..we already acknowledged Pelini, and I guess Saban too. Got any more?
Again, you stated "show me" in your response to my "coaches flip out from time to time when their players are sucking" remark. Now that videos of the two that came to my mind immediately were posted....you need proof in gif form? You wanted proof, it was provided and then you changed or specified your criteria. GIF's are made because they're funny mostly. Anyways, proof is proof whether it's a gif, a video, a pic, etc.
Whether it was embarrassing or not is strictly opinion and you're trying to prove my opinion wrong. You're not changing how I view it and vice versa. Thing is, I'm not trying to force my opinion on you whereas you're attempting to prove mine wrong. You just like to argue for the sake of arguing as evidenced by the dozens of pissing matches that you've been in on here with several people. Your opinion isn't any better or more valid than mine. -
TiernanMy Lord Domers...with all that superior education you are always yammering about you'd think you could read with some accuracy. Its ONLY embarrasing because it was the Hamburgler doing it, other coaches are tough guys who have inherent respect from their players. Kelly just doesn't have the cajones to back that type of behavior up. Maybe if you knew how to coach a little better your players might play a little better Toughy McToughster.
-
FatHobbitI'm late to the thread, but I think most fans would want their coach to get mad when they're losing. People got mad at Tress when he didn't show enough emotion. It's not unusual I think. (I didn't see the game, only the pic and I have no clue why it's even being discussed.)
And I have no idea why anyone responds to Teirnan on a ND thread. -

He also said he has to realize he is in the national spotlight and to be more careful. Just sayin'.karen lotz;887419 wrote:He made a joke of it because its a non issue. He was not embarrassed at all. -

Height = toughness....okay.
Manute Bol and George Muresan were two of the baddest motherfuckers that ever walked the planet then. -

So you're saying a parent of two football players at Notre Dame who also is a co-host on a national radio show didn't publicly rip the coach of Notre Dame? LOL, wtf does that prove?karen lotz;887421 wrote:Anyone hear what Mike Golic, who happens to have two sons currently on the team, had to say about Kelly?
Hopefully this is my final take on all of this - As I've said before, I don't mind the yelling at players during the game. Given Fickell's (and Vrabel's) reputation gained through practice reports and interviews with players, I fully expect Fickell to get on a player this year. I just hope he doesn't lose all control and composure because of it. Especially not in the second half when his team is down by three scores.
Btw, since there are a couple Mike and Mike listeners on here, didn't they read a public letter from an individual with high regard in the Catholic community about Kelly's actions? -

That's called being more aware that every single thing you do is under a microscope.....especially if you're losing. -

LOL holy shit...when have I ever tried to change your opinion? Lol I simply said its embarrassing. If u don't believe that fine. Those videos weren't Kelly comparable btw. They weren't close, hence no gif made of those videos -

So if your players fear you it's okay to assault players?Tiernan;887477 wrote:My Lord Domers...with all that superior education you are always yammering about you'd think you could read with some accuracy. Can I have some proof that players don't respect Coach Kelly? Those are bold, and erroneous, statements. -

I'm telling you that to me it wasn't embarrassing and you're trying to tell me that it was. That's your opinion that it was. Sorry that I don't have the same opinion as you on the issue.
LMAO at whether a gif of something exists being the determining factor. Pelini was putting his finger in Martinez's chest while screaming in his face. Now, I don't have a problem with that but it's just as fiery as Kelly's behavior if not moreso. It's my opinion that they're absolutely comparable, but that's right....whether a gif exists or not tells the whole story. That logic is absolutely absurd. -
TiernanThey're athletes for Gods Sake Tobias! they've been picking out the pussies on the playground since 5th grade!

Make sure that proof is in the form of a gif though. -

No, I was saying that BK was REALLY REALLY angry and said bad words!!!! As in I was being facetious and its a non issue to Golic as a parent. Another parent of a freshman, Phillip Daniels also said that Kelly was worked up as he should have been, but didn't think it was an issue either. Daniels is also the uncle of TJ Jones, who Kelly really laid into. Daniels said something along the lines of "I felt bad that TJ was getting yelled at because of how much he has been through." Jones' dad passed away suddenly earlier this year.vball10set;887436 wrote:at Kelly's behavior, or the reaction to it?
Bottom line, until parents of players or recruits say it negatively impacts their view of Notre Dame, it is a non issue, except for internet message boards and ESPN who is trying to boost ratings and up their website hits. -
The EqualizerAnd maybe if you said that to kelly he'd punch your fucking lights out. You don't know him or his personality behind the scenes.

Exactly. I would much rather have a coach who is getting worked up when the team is making mistakes that were happening last weekend compared to someone who stood there with a blank expression on his face (Willingham), or stood there and had snot running into his own mouth (Weis). The only reason it is even being talked about is because its Notre Dame. Same people who claim they are irrelevant are blasting Kelly for yelling at players. Makes a lot of sense, doesn't it?FatHobbit;887486 wrote:I'm late to the thread, but I think most fans would want their coach to get mad when they're losing. Yes, if you listen to how he speaks with the media and his sense of humor, he said that kind of tongue in cheek. Like he was saying "I will be more careful" to appease the media. If the same situation arises in future games, he isn't going to change how he reacts.WebFire;887490 wrote:He also said he has to realize he is in the national spotlight and to be more careful. ahhh, got ya'...also, as I was watching the video for the hundredth time last night, it appeared to me that Tommy Rees was trying to tell BK that it was his (Rees') fault (patting his chest as if to say "it's on me, coach")- did anyone else pick that up?karen lotz;887522 wrote:No, I was saying that BK was REALLY REALLY angry and said bad words!!!! I've only seen replays and didn't really stop to think about it, but did this happen when Notre Dame was down 23-3? If so, could the little tirade have fired them up just a bit considering they would've then outscored SF 17-0 the rest of the way?Especially not in the second half when his team is down by three scores.
Yes, something about "I should be able to watch a Notre Dame game with my family." It was about the "cursing". Lame...stupid catholics.Btw, since there are a couple Mike and Mike listeners on here, didn't they read a public letter from an individual with high regard in the Catholic community about Kelly's actions?
Pelini did face some backlash for that also, didn't he? I just find the whining and "he should be fired" nonsense to be incredibly pussified in either/both cases. It isn't my favorite manner of communication and he runs the risk of losing his team's respect if he can't relate/motivate them properly, but those are his consequences to deal with. As someone already mentioned, winning solves everything. If he continues to lose, this will just be additional ammo. Win and it all goes away.Pelini was putting his finger in Martinez's chest while screaming in his face. Now, I don't have a problem with that but it's just as fiery as Kelly's behavior if not moreso. -
