9 more on the current team than was originally reported. Smith said they investigated and found no other violations. Spin it how you will.

Yeah of all of the info, this has me the most troubled. I wonder if this could lead to a "lack of institutional control" tag? That's a pretty big number

I see you've sat in a quite a few NCAA investigations, good to know lol.

Don't you think the severity of the infraction and the university self reporting will have any bearing on their punishment? Good Lord

I have no dog in the fight, but wow that article is a complete joke. Can't believe I wasted my time reading it.

Ok...we got caught with our hand in the cookie jar .. If anyone on here can name me one college power that does not have violations in their program , name it . This is going on and has been going on for years . SI can go to any school it desires to investigate wrong doing and find dirt . The NCAA needs to do more than penalize these universities as finding a way to help these kids out . Yes I know they get a free scholarship etc...etc..But they are not to have a job to get extra $ for what ever . They create a hellva lot of money for this school. It's ok for the NCAA to get fee's for selling jersey's with a number on it knowing that only maybe 4 to five numbers of the big boys sell . They are just to powerful to control college sports and as we all know , its all about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The worst part of that article was seeing John Simon's name mentioned. If it's true he was trading memorabilia for tats or money, I'm going to be really disappointed in the kid.

The severity of the 10.1 violation? That is about as bad as it gets in the NCAA's eyes.

Yeah kinda surprised about him, thought the old man would have given him a heads up.

Thought I referenced the number of players involved and the time frame...could be wrong though...

    nope, I was right

10.1 will certainly not warrant LOIC in and of itself.

I don't think anyone said, other than Gibby, that it would.

Which is why, given the post I quoted, your query has me scratching my head.

Only the people who don't understand the 10.1, or the usual punishments for it, think they are gonna lose scholies. The university said they were the only players they knew of doing it. And I doubt they were gonna go interview every player from the last 8 years. This article is a waste. If osu is to lose scholarships, it'll come from something else. Not the 10.1.

Could be true, but don't you think they talked to any other players on the current team? 9 additional players out of the 79 other scholarship players and they just happened to not investigate any of them?

Don't YOU think that after the investigation went down that these nine got together and said "Yo maybe we better let 'em know we got some too."?

You're assuming this unnamed source is telling the truth. I wouldn't make that assumption. Also, I'm sure OSU compliance probably talked to the entire team and asked if anyone else was involved.

Some of those players are already denying they've done anything wrong, and unless there's more proof than an unnamed source, nothing will come of this -- and shouldn't.

Spock as in Star Trek? And you are LOLing at me for not getting your "joke"?

I want to preface my comments by saying that I'm a Michigan fan and I want nothing more than for the OSU football program to fall into a funk so that we can begin dominating again like we did in the 90s. With that said...

This is a total disgrace and a witch hunt. So, let me get this straight... Tressel is being forced out because his players got some free tattoos? And because he had previous knowledge of them selling some stuff and he waited a few months to report it?

Is that it? Because, if so, Ohio State runs the cleanest program in the country.

Pete Carroll presided over what was essentially a professional team. Of course, the NCAA allowed him to play-out his tenure and then, just when the news was about to break, he was offered a job in the NFL. His reputation is still completely intact.

Cam Newton was given... What? $250,000? On his father's f#cking orders? Was the NCAA crawling in every crack and crevice of the Auburn program to find out if any of the players had... gasp... possibly gotten free tattoos or the like, as well? Because, the selling of a player by a father clearly doesn't match up to something as heinous as getting free body ink.

There is such hypocrisy in the NCAA right now, particularly with football, it makes the mind boggle. They pick out the programs and coaches that they want to take down at any given time and they find the evidence to do so. When you have one hundred 18-22 year olds to look after and they all think they are the next Jerry Rice, you will be able to find 'something' improper if you look hard enough.

However, this OSU case is the most egregious witch hunt that I have ever seen. Go throw the NCAA's wrath on any program in the country and I can guarantee that they find far, far worse than free tattoos and a couple of small handouts to a handful of players.

Tressel didn't deserve to go out like this and that comes from a UM guy.

Well after reading that, maybe Tressel should try to get his job back. What a joke.

The writer of this article should resign from his job too.

I just don't see how any of this rises to LOIC. It's not even close to the amount of crap USC pulled. Then factor in USC not cooperating for something like three years.

If the NCAA hits OSU as hard as USC over this, they'll never have another university self reporting major violations again.

maybe USC should have cooperated the way OSU did , lie and then try to cover it up
