5/7/11 More trouble for OSU

  • rydawg5
Now there is an investigation about special car deals for players and families. Players apparently gave the salesman tickets to an OSU game, which would be a big no-no.

This isn't going to end well for Tress.

Tressel lying or witholding information bothered me. This car story doesnt. This car stuff is happening at big time schools all over the country.

You're right: At least six major athletic programs have faced NCAA sanctions since 1990 because their athletes had free use of cars or received suspect deals on purchases: Arizona State (2005), Illinois (1990 and 2005), Minnesota (2000), Louisville (1996), Michigan State (1996), and Southern California (2010).

I hope they punish them good.

It ends when OSU stops winning BCS bowls, National Championships, and Big Ten conference titles. So...never.

I said when tattoogate started up that this was not going to end well. Once the sharks smell some blood they don't stop until they topple a program.

Looks like all of the old reliables are right in the middle of this case. (TP, Herron, and Posey). I seriously hate all of those guys. I wish we would kick them off the team already. Their actions combined with Tress trying to protect them (so that we could keep winning) is going to send this program back to the stone ages.

Thaddeus Gibson's situation seems to have the most potential for NCAA infractions. His title said $0 for paid price. That will almost certainly not end well

After reading the article, I'm not worried.

Troll on, OSU will keep winning.
  • jordo212000
If we arent kicking these guys off the team, can we at least keep TP the F away from Braxton Miller?

I've noticed players rollin' in cars with dealers plates for as long as I can remember while in Columbus.

I'm sure it goes on to some extent at every major university. However looks like our hand is going to get caught in the cookie jar. The media is in full out investigation mode. No rock is going to be unturned.

This sounds exactly like the tattoo mess with the difference being that they received discounted cars instead of tats

What I want to know is how Posey and TP's families could afford new cars if their financial situation was as dire as they made it out to be a couple months ago smh

Yeah definitely not good. I was under the impression that dealers were allotting cars to players and staff to for use in return for tickets.

I used to valet at the Blackwell a few years back......always saw players in dealer rides. I figured it was the norm and allowed?

Thats part of this. The other part according to the Dispatch is that a disproportionate amount of Buckeyes were shopping at two dealerships and were paying well below market value and were in turn giving tickets and memoribilia to the dealerships. Thad Gibson supposedly is marked down as paying $0 but he claims that's not the case and refused further comment

    lol....what a fucking disaster.

There is nothing wrong with the number of athletes that bought cars there. Every single athlete in the entire athletic department could buy a car there and it would still be ok. In addition, besides the Thad Gibson sale, nowhere in the article does it say that they were buying cars "well below market value". It said half the transactions were below the blue book price. Well isn't that the point when buying used cars? Find the dealer that sells cars a bit cheaper than the rest.

Make it stop. This is a serious disaster.

Ehhh idk its a problem when everyone is going to this dealer and the guy has all kinds of OSU memorabilia and sweet hook ups to OSU games. But you're right, maybe they just like this particular dealer's charming personality and give him all kinds of OSU stuff because he is OSU superfan number 1. I don't see this ending well.

One thing is for certain. This is far and away the least excited I have ever been for a Buckeye football season.

I was just disputing what Jordo had put in his post. Besides, other than the Thad Gibson sale and the tickets that OSU stopped giving him, nothing seems out of the ordinary for college sports besides the Kniffin owing $130,000 to the IRS.

Gibson claims he is still making payments on the car. If he can't provide receipts or any kind of proof of payments, this is going to be another huge blow to the program.

Agreed. If it were up to me, all the current players involved would be kicked off the team and stripped of their scholarships and Tressel would be canned. I wouldn't care if we went 0-pher next year as long as we have a clean program. It's Ohio State, the best players will always come here. I can endure a few down years to ensure the integrity of the program.

Well then we better kick William Buford off the basketball team, and if Diebler was still there he would needed kicked off too.

Here's an interesting twist. How can the NCAA hold Diebler or OSU accountable because of a car his parents bought? Cam Newtons Dad ring a bell?

Yes, I know he is a senior.

Let me guess, you don't think Tressel should be fired, correct?
