Sweet 16: (4) Kentucky vs. (1) Ohio State
-
bigkahunaI think we blocked 10-12 shots, forget the final number.
-
mallymal614Now that I think about it, I see why Ohio State had a very successful run in 2007. Not only hey had a NBA point guard in Conley but some of us forget how difficult we made it for defenses to score of us having Oden in the middle. I said throughout this game that Matta should try going big. Because taking Lauderdale out is subtraction by addiction. Yes it gives a good point guard in craft great minutes and Sullinger will do his thing on offense, but that opened up for Kentucky to drive the line, get rebounds, and points in the paint. Say what you want about Dallas but he is a heck of a defender. Not quite Greg Oden impact, but close to it.

OQBKentucky was the better team tonight and goodluck to the Wildcats going forward. I knew once the Media started elaborating on the fact the Kentucky has never beat OSU in the tournament that this would be the year.....everytime something like that is mentioned the opposite occurs lol.
Key Stats:
Kentucky 11 blocks to OSU 1
OSU had over 40 assists in the first two tourney games..tonight just 7
OSU 32% shooting to Kentucky 46%
Harrellson was able to play Sullinger 1 on 1 successfully and had 17 points 10 rebounds
You have to be able to play at the highest level every single game in the tournament and if you don't bring your A game you WILL get beat.....the Buckeyes were shooting bricks instead of basketballs and weren't able to overcome all the poor shooting from everyone on the team not just Buford. -

Should have thrown it to him every time Terrence Jones had him. Dude couldn't check him physically.
I remember Barkley saying during the George Mason game that if he were defending OSU, he would let Sully get his and try to keep everyone else in check. That worked tonight. And I'm not sure too many other teams could get away with it either like Kentucky could. -

He only played 5 minutes tonight and didn't even get a shot off. You could tell he was pretty pissed when the camera showed him late in the game. -
sleeperGreat win by Kentucky.

I agree. I think being a #1 seed is very overrated. It's all about match ups not where you are ranked. In 1999 we were a #4 seed but caught the breaks that Kansas and other teams got this year. It's all about the luck of the draw I guess. -

I agree 100% and all teams have to to do is take care of business and move on. It just sucks for OSU or Kentucky to have to play a game like this then comeback on Sunday against UNC. Whereas Kansas pretty much has smooth sailing to the Final Four. -

This seems to happen to Michigan in football every year at some point lol, theyve never lost# straight to OSU, it's been XXX years since this happened.....Kills me. -

Ehhh Ohio State played horrible against Xavier and not much better against Tennessee but got a couple lucky breaks. This team had a similar game against Kentucky but Buford's shot didn't fall like Lewis' did in 07. -
charliehustle14I just hate the fact that I can count on OSU going cold every year in the tournament.
Loss to Florida in the title game....I've never seen a team miss so many open shots
OSU v Siena....(even though OSU wasn't overly good that year IMO)
OSU v Tennessee....no one besides Turner could put the ball in the bucket
And this year....worst shooting performance of the year. Picked a hell of a time to have it, that's for sure
I'm sick to my stomach for the seniors. Diebler, Lighty, and Dallas have been monumental to this program. I've never been so attached to a class of players, in basketball or football. And Eddie Days is an epic story. -

PrescottKentucky's length bothered OSU all night long. OSU could have won the game at the free throw line , but they had to be better than 73% and they weren't. Kentucky has some very good athletes and they used those athletes to perfection. Cal had a great game plan and his team executed.

I give you that. -
elbuckeye28One thing I really wish Matta would do in games like this is go to Thomas off the bench when we couldn't hit a shot. I know it's risky but at the way Buford was shooting, we needed somebody who could hit a shot.

Does the rim blocking half those shots count as blocked shots for the team? -

I agree with you. I kfelt that way in 2007 when Daequan Cook didn't play the entire second half against Florida in the championship game. I know he was streaky and struggling in the tournament, but he was a natural scorer (like Thomas). Plus no one else was making anything in that game. -

That post nails it on the head for me. Those seniors will be hard to replace. And it will be hard to forget Buford's 2-17. -
MulvaNot that it means anything, but from ESPN's recap...
Sullinger said in the aftermath he expects to return for his sophomore year, if only to wash out the taste of a bitter end to an otherwise spectacular season. -

Personally, it does not bother me so much that Buford shot poorly and missed the last shot, but rather, the fact that he was forcing bad shots without running the offense in the last few minutes of the game. Missing good shots is one thing, but missing shots that are forced and don't allow the other players an opportunity are a lot harder to handle. -

If that were to come true, it would obviously be a silver lining to an otherwise terrible loss but it's impossible to take anything seriously in a highly emotional situation. That said, a pending lockout could make it more of a possibility. -
JugheadThere's a pending lockout in the NBA?
