Nick Vannett TE is the first to sign on signing day.

    Vannett first in the house

    By TIM MAY
Evidently Nick Vannett didn’t let blizzard conditions hold him back. He improvised.
The tight end from Westerville Central reportedly became the first member of the 2011 Ohio State class to fax in his signed letter of intent to the Les Wexner Football Complex. He did it from home.
By the way, there has been conjecture about whether linebacker Ejuan Price, of Woodland Hills High School east of Pittsburgh, Pa., is going to sign with OSU as pledged or jump to Pittsburgh at his ceremony at 9 a.m. I texted him last night and asked whether he still intended to sign with OSU and he texted back “Yea.” We will see.
    Meanwhile, here is Vannett’s bio:

Nick Vannett, TE, 6-6, 240 Westerville (Central)
ESPN ranked him No.7 among tight end prospects nationally while rivals.com had him No.13. In the 2010 season he had 34 catches, the 11th best total in central Ohio, for 437 yards and was named third-team All-Ohio in Division I. He had four catches in the Offense vs. Defense national all-star game in South Carolina in December, and will play for the South in the Ohio North-South game April 22 in Ohio Stadium. He also plays basketball for Central.

From BuckiBill on Bucknuts (very credible poster)
A Buckeye recruit who is going to have to send his LOI from his home fax because of the weather (school closed tomm).......he sent Curtis Grant a txt "O...H...."

    Curtis responded "I...O..Baby!!!!"

Just thought I'd pass that along!

    Go Bucks!!!
    Lets hope.

That is good news. A mod on BP claims to have a significant source that says Walker is going to sign with OSU he will not reveal until after the LOI is signed.

A good breakdown of kids that are commited already if you are unfamilier.

No matter what, 5 new Buckeyes already in fold
    By TIM MAY
Rise and sign, campers. It’s national letter of intent signing day, not just Groundhog Day.
Whether the ridiculous weather conditions that have attacked the midwest will hamper the process of Ohio State’s 2011 recruits signing on the dotted line of their letters of intent today remains to be seen. Schools are closed all over the place.
We will have updates on whose letters have been faxed to OSU as the day proceeds. No matter what, though, the Buckeyes already have five member of the 2011 class in the bag, since they graduated high school early and enrolled for winter quarter. They include the biggest name in the class, too, quarterback Braxton Miller, along with three from Florida – linebacker Ryan Shazier, safety Jeremy Cash, tight end Jeff Heuerman – and Indiana defensive lineman Joel Hale.
    Their bios follow:

Jeremy Cash, DB, 6-2, 190, Plantation, Fla.
Ranked the No. 25 safety nationally by Rivals.com, and No. 30 by Scout.com. Both services rank him as a three-star prospect. Chose OSU in April 2010, but continued to take official visits last fall. Was heavily recruited by Nebraska, Arizona State, Florida State and the University of Miami, among others. Known as a big hitter with good instincts. Played linebacker his first two years in high school before moving to safety in 2009. Athletic enough to play corner if needed. Graduated in December and enrolled at OSU in January. -- KEN GORDON

Joel Hale, DL, 6-4, 290, Greenwood (Center Grove) Ind.
Rated the No. 35 defensive tackle nationally by Rivals.com, and No. 30 by Scout.com. Both rate him a three-star prospect. Could be an under-the-radar recruit, as he garnered offers from Florida, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State and Wisconsin, among many others. Chose Ohio State in June. Graduated early from high school and enrolled at OSU in January. As a senior, he recorded 42 tackles, two sacks, nine forced fumbles and an interception. Known for his strength and intensity. Probably will start out inside, but could possibly also play strong-side defensive end. -- KEN GORDON

Jeff Heuerman, TE, 6-5, 225 Naples (Barron Collier), Fla.
An early commitment, he was offered by at least 20 schools but not Florida or Florida State after he expressed a desire to go out of state. Four other Big Ten schools pursued him, including Wisconsin and Iowa. Whether he can be a prolific pass catcher remains to be seen, since he only had seven receptions last season in a run-oriented offense, though he excelled as a blocker. Ranked No.18 among tight ends nationally by rivals.com, he enrolled at OSU for winter quarter. -- TIM MAY

Braxton Miller, QB, 6-3, 203 Huber Hts. (Wayne), Ohio.
He was the No.1 prospect in Ohio according to Ohio Football Recruiting news, and the No.1 dual-threat QB in the nation according to rivals.com, the 34th best overall prospect. He started as a freshman, injuries stunted his sophomore and junior years, then he led his team to the Divi.I state finals last year, passing for 2,172 yards and 17 TDs and running for 921 yards and 17 TDs. Named the Ohio high school offensive player of the year by the Associated Press, he enrolled at OSU winter quarter after playing in the Under Armour All-American game..-- TIM MAY

Ryan Shazier, LB, 6-3, 210 Plantation, Fla.
Offered by almost every school in the Southeastern Conference and an early commitment to Florida, he switched to the Buckeyes in December. He enrolled at OSU winter quarter. With 4.5-second speed and a 36-inch vertical leap, he was ranked No.5 among OLB prospects nationally by Scout.com, No.14 by rivals.com. He played in the Under Armour All-American game. Had 87 tackles, including 19 sacks, as a junior, and 93 tackles and 16 sacks as a senior. -- TIM MAY

    Price is a Buckeye!!!
  • purple_rein
Wlker is a Trojan. First bummer of the day.
  • OneBuckeye
Jones is a Buckeye. He won't count until 2012 though he is taking a greyshirt. Best scenario for him IMO.
  • Wooball
Jones said he will go to prep school and enroll next January. Ideally he would then redshirt, giving him 2 years separation from Braxton Miller. It would be great to have a guy with his athletic ability sit and learn the position for 3-4 years and still have a couple years to play. Like Boeckman but with more ability.

What else you think will be a bummer? Grant is only one I see that would. OSU is behind on Story and Jennings so that would be expected IMO.
  • purple_rein
Story sticks with Gators according to ESPN.

So Jennings and Grant is what we have left.

may be expected, but still a bummer
  • j_crazy
it'll be great to get grant or jennings, if for no other reason than the bucks' shitty signing day performances in years past. they always end up with really nice classes, but can't seem to get any of the "stars" that announce on signing day.
  • se-alum
I think the chances of getting Jennings are slim. I really want Grant though, he was my main target coming into today.

Agree, there have been some positive reports regarding Jennings as of late, but I am not getting my hopes up.
  • Wooball
If Jennings wants to play at the next level, he is not going to get there as a QB. Hopefully that plays into his decision and would be good for the Bucks. Is he still announcing soon?
  • dave
Jones is not going to see the field as a QB at OSU. He was offered to keep Ginn happy and hopefully land Walker. He won't get much coaching for a year, then maybe sit another year. Then he'd still have 2 years behind Miller. By then another stud QB like Pryor or Miller will be ahead of him. He's an athlete so he'll end up somewhere on the field.
  • OneBuckeye
Kaser sent in his LOI to Texas AM.
