2011 Michigan Recruiting

I agree with you, but I think most of us are excited because it's almost a guarantee that they will improve now. I mean it'd be hard to be worse than this past season, but it could have happened with the same coaching staff.

There is far more than bare minimum D1 talent on the defensive side of the ball. If Troy Woolfork, JT Floyd, and Mike Martin can stay healthy they are instantly much better. Add another year of experience for Black and Roh alongside vets VanBuren and Martin and the front 4 should be pretty solid. The linebackers will probably be the weak spot next year.

Not saying they will be near the top defensively in the Big 10 but with some good coaching, a few freshman stepping up, and luck healthwise they are a lot closer than many think. 2012 might be scary though unless some young guys really step up.

Linebackers will probably be a weak spot BUT, Demens I think will be a beast

For sure, he has David Harris potential IMO

Didn't mean that as a slam on Michigan by any means. I'm not in touch with their personnel enough to know what kind of talent is on that team. But from the outside looking in and from their national ranks you'd have to at least understand where my "bare minimum" comment came from.

Yeah I understand. I have no problem when people slam the defense. Hell all of us Michigan fans do that. The lack of talent is where people outside of Michigan think there is a much larger gap than there is. With that many injuries and so many guys playing out of position due to the injuries and the stupid 3-3-5 along with such a young D it's easy to see people think there isn't anything to work with. Again, it's not Iowa/OSU talent but it's also not MAC/Sun Belt talent either.

it's an excellent hire--just curious, how old is he now anyway?

While Michigan doesn't have all the talent they need to compete for the Big 10 yet, I do agree that there is more talent than what RRod's staff was able to show us. This is one of the main reasons that RRod and the defensive staff lost my support this last season. They just didn't seem to have a knack for playing the right people in the right positions, and the 3-3-5 sometimes forced a guy to play where he shouldn't have been.

Hoke and Mattison will be able to maximize what we do have IMO, and that will go a long ways towards improving.

^^thanks--he's a helluva defensive coach, and again, an excellent hire for tsun

Love the hire by Michigan. Hoke and Pizza Boy hit a HR! Never would have expected them to grab the Ravens D-coordinator. Their defense has instant credibility now. Al Borges isn't a terrible hire either.

I can't help but notice how Hoke is approaching the start of his Michigan career in the exact opposite way of Rich Rod. He is reaching out to other Michigan guys, bringing in talented assistant coaches with good reputations, and is respecting tradition. Night and day difference

ala Jim Tressel..to be honest, it makes me kinda' nervous
  • bigkahuna
That's what happens when you get someone who actually has passion for the school and the tradition.

Tate forcier says on his Twitter michigan gave up on him and it's time to go.

Don't think he was going to play over Robinson anyway, but it does hurtthe depth.
  • Trueblue23
He wouldn't play over Denard or Gardner.. I wish Tate all the best.
  • WebFire
I agree, it does hurt depth for sure. But I'm sick of this kid's act. I think it is time for him to go. I wish him all the best.

Any word on an Off. Coord.? Would like to see Scott Loefler (sp?) back in AA.
  • j_crazy
michigan has a very good staff of coaches. we'll see how well they recruit, but with coaches like they're getting, they won't need the 5* recruits, the'll take a 3* kid and make him a damn good player.

It's probably due to the hype of the new coach, but I think I'm more excited about this up coming season than I have in a long time.
  • vball10set
^^^ when a coach is passionate about the team, it definitely has a trickle down effect to the fan base...and Brady Hoke is all about passion

4* LB Leilon Willingham is now scheduled to visit this weekend as well.
