Dear god, #NotreDame fans, stand down, take a Ritalin. Floyd is talking because we want to hear more than canned press release quotes.
    lol

Ruffer will be back and on scholarship next year.

As of now, Kona Schwenke and Justin Utupo will be back and not go on their Missions.

Brian Kelly says he has yet to see Charlie Weis on recruiting trail: "We don't have the money that Florida does. Charlie flies first class."
    lol.

Kelly also hinted that Riddick may be moved back to RB. He also said he won't go into spring ball with 6 QBs, they will be paired down to 4. He said that a position change from QB to WR and even WR to CB is possible.
  • Tobias Fünke
Massa to WR. Calling it now.

Riddick to RB is a bad move in my opinion.

Top four QB's for spring: Crist, Golson, Hendrix, Rees. I would think Crist is borderline as far as health to even have a spring though....soooo Massa? Montana?
  • karen lotz
Can't really see Montana moving to any other position and Kelly said that taking him off scholarship wasn't an option to get down to 85.
  • The Equalizer
Why not? He doesn't see the field and he's taking up a spot.
  • karen lotz
Kelly doesn't believe in giving someone a scholarship and then taking it away.
  • Tobias Fünke
    Admirable.

Here's what I believe in: Montana giving his scholarship to Ruffer personally.
  • karen lotz
I'd like to see Joe Cool call Kelly himself and say that he would foot the bill for Nate's tuition.

Could not agree more. Riddick really excelled at receiver.

But at the same time, if it means getting him the ball 4 or 5 more times a game its a good move. Some of the guys tweeting from the presser said Kelly was implying he'd use him like Reggie Bush (sans violations) where he'd run a few plays from the backfield, then split him out, or motion him out to get a favorable match up in space. I doubt he would be a full time running back and he would still be catching the ball out of the back field. I do agree that he was explosive and elusive but he can only be those things when he touches the ball.

Huggins trims his list to 3: Rutgers, North Carolina, and Notre Dame.

Well, I guess if you put it that way......
  • Tobias Fünke
After watching the interview video I didn't gather Kelly was going to move him back to RB but they were considering ways of getting him more "touches." I don't mind that at all. But I think Wood will be a stud at RB so moving Riddick around from the slot to the backfield to a wide out to wildcat, etc., etc. is a good move.

But I think people maybe be taking too much out of it. Getting your best players more touches isn't necessarily having him switch positions.

    In regards to Riddick.....

    More touches = good

Full time move to RB = bad

I think that we can all agree on that.

    Absolutely.

    Word.

If he doesn't have 96+ agility on NCAA 12....I'm going to be livid.

Harrison Smith and Michael Floyd were named captains for 2011, no more of the gameday captain thing. Floyd was voted team MVP by the players and made a very awkward speech at the awards show last night. He really doesn't do well in those type of situations but he knows it and has fun with it.

    Other award winners were:
    Offensive Scout POY: Cam Roberson
    Defensive Scout POY: Kendall Moore
Offensive Newcomer of Year: Tyler Eifert
Defensive Newcomer of Year: Prince Shembo
    Special Teams POY: Bennett Jackson
Next Man In Award: Tommy Rees
    Rockne Student-Athlete Award: David Ruffer
Moose Krause Lineman of Year: Ian Williams
    Guardian of Year: Zack Martin
Nick Pietrosante Award (courage, loyalty, etc): Robert Hughes

Skip ahead to the 1:22 mark for Floyd. No one else was asked to talk, but Kelly called him out as he was trying to walk off the stage.
  • The Equalizer
So Smith's for sure coming back for his 5th? With us getting close to the cap of 85 I wasn't sure who was and who wasn't.

Haha yeah I guess one could get to that conclusion from the fact he has been named a captain. All would be 5th year guys who have a year of eligibility left have applied for next year. Kelly will meet with them individually tomorrow to let them know who will be back and then make an announcement sometime Tuesday.
