Please GOD let Bob Stoops turn it down so we can get Chris Peterson

I think Peterson would do a way better job than Stoops would. What is Stoops..1-5 or something in BCS games? Well he will get his second bcs win against Connecticut this year I guess lol. With that said, Im rooting for Stoops to get the job.

The Stoops move would definitely surprise me. It seems like a lateral move, and he'll be hated in Oklahoma for it. Plus, he will have less job security as the new coach at Florida than at OU, where he would never be fired.

I can see the weather being tempting, and the explanation about the Big 12 possibly falling apart makes sense, but it's still a surprise.

If Stoops would go to Florida, all of a sudden another top 10 job is open in Oklahoma. Who would be the top candidates there?

Send me to the basement if you like, but you're a fucktard.

I'm not sure why anyone would be complaining about Stoops. Yeah, he's sucked in some big games, but he also keeps getting to those games. It isn't like anyone is going to walk in and win five titles in a row - anywhere. There are still a handful of proven, long term top-of-the-line coaches in the country and Stoops is on that list. I'd prefer Petersen, though he isn't as proven (difference in the level of competition) and Harbaugh (hasn't done nearly as much for anywhere close to as long), but that is just personal preference. Only an idiot would act as though Bob Stoops would doom the program. I would be a little surprised if he bolted Oklahoma because, why start over...but I don't have to be sold on Florida being a better place to live than Oklahoma (and that doesn't even approach the homestate recruiting advantage).

Speedofsand - I hope it doesn't end up coming around to Mullen or Strong (or even Whittingham). Loved what they did at UF, but there are better head coaching resumes that Florida should be able to pick from. I'm also a fan of Gruden (both), but never really preferred taking a chance on pro coaches. You know how I feel about Kerwin Bell....if it is true about his coming in with a Stoops hire, that trumps any other personal preferences for me.

Lots of folks wanted Mullen back. Meyer is not one of them. I don't want him either. My info is no better than Tywebbgibbyblanket but he said Mullen or Strong. Hehehe

Its MIKE Stoops you imbecils! Welcome to more mediocrity.

Associated Press reporting that UT def coordinator Will Muschamp has accepted offer 2 become new head coach @ Florida
Not sure if it needs its own thread until it is announced officially. Not too many saw this coming if it is indeed true.
  • Speedofsand
I have just seen it in 2 places, Muschamp. I hope he puts a good staff together.

Bottom line on ESPN during Heisman ceremony. Classy move by Florida to release this information to take away from Cam Newton's Heisman moment.
  • NilesPacMan
Wow, that's a shocker right there. Didn't he have the coach-in-waiting position at Texas? Plus, that hurts Texas and Mack Brown in the future. I guess it's Florida's way of trying to douse off a perennial contender form the time being.

Was that serious? Why would Florida care? Did they tell ESPN to scroll it at the bottom of the screen?

Supposedly, but I doubt Texas will have problems getting their next HC.

Yeah it was serious. You don't think it was intentionally leaked within a minute of the Heisman ceremony starting? Come on.

Checked out a UF board. Someone said there will be a press conference at 9. Showed a link to this that a flight took off in Austin and landed in Gainesville about a half hour ago.

Wow...I expected UF to get an experienced head coach. I have to believe they had quite a few coaches turn them down.

Surprisingly ESPN's story says Muschamp was the only person interviewed for the job.
  • Speedofsand
    Tebow broke the scoop

Could be. Florida may have used a hiring firm that goes behind the scenes to gauge a candidate's interest. He could have been the first one on their list who said he was interested.

Interesting......sort of from left field, but has been a name thrown out there for several years.
I guess he couldn't wait much later for the UT job.
  • Tiernan
WOW what a minor league hire. FL knew they couldn't get a tier one coach to walk into the shit storm Urby obviously has left behind.

Wrong chief. Muschamp has been sought after for many coaching jobs the last few years, but turned them down. In fact he got a huge contract, the largest for an assistant in the country, to stay at UT. Looks like he could not wait anymore.

Stoops has been thinking about it, Peterson is 1a on the list.
Speedofsand;596335 wrote:an hour after my post it was on ESPN. Trust me Ty, I have better info than you when it comes to Gator football. I want Charlie but the powers that be want more experience and offensive thinking. Mullen has all but been crossed off Foley's list. Petrino was behind Meyer 6 years ago and was on Foley's short list again. Fanbase already hates Petrino (not as a coach) and he knows it, Ark. wanted to keep him. Good. Stoops is thinking if TxAM leaves,(SEC) the Big12 is close falling apart. He can recruit easier and his wife can get a sexy tan in Florida. Golf, fishing, the beach vs freezing. No state income tax. Stoops has an offer, hope to know by Monday. Peterson is next, then Harbaugh, Whittingham. Mullen is waiting on a chance to go to PSU, but used Miami and UF to gauge his value. Gruden declined, but I've been a big fan of his. I watched Jay play and coach in Arenaball, and coach in the UFL. He is a great offensive coach. He worked with QBs and WRs in Tampa when Jon won the Super Bowl.
What is your problem with Stoops ? That he said yes then no after Spurrier left ? Okla gave him 3million under the table, that was a lot of money back then. Check the OU boards out, they are talking UF / Stoops.

How are those "sources" working out for you? It's pathetic when people come to a message board with "sources" and nothing they say is true. Give it up.
  • Speedofsand
I was 100% right on Petrino, he was on the short list. Stoops decided not to change jobs. Peterson was informally interviewed and not offered. All you have to do is read the Boise and OU and Texas boards. If you don't find it there go to Tigerdroppings. They have info on everything.
