Stand corrected. For some reason I thought he did.

If he does reach 2000/2000, he absolutely deserves the Heisman.

I doubt he gets the 2000 rushing. Mich, starting this week, plays MSU, Iowa, @ PSU and still has Wisky as well as @OSU. He'd need to avg over 140yds. I don't think that will happen against that schedule. I say he ends up between 1500-1700yds. Which, is still pretty amazing. That passing 2000 could be a stretch against that schedule as well. Especially with the weather starting to turn. And as others have mentioned....he needs to stay healthy. As the season goes on, he will be taking a pretty good pounding.

As a UM fan, you hope he does just for the accomplishment. But if he does, I don't think it's good for Michigan. They need to find a non-Robinson running game. That is too much workload for any one individual (and not because of his size).

He would need to average 167 Yard Rushing and 141 yards passing to get 2000/2000 before the Heisman, and 146/124 to reach it after a bowl game.

I was talking with a friend the other day who is a big Michigan fan and I expressed a similar sentiment for him. I said that I think he's so good right now that I don't see any defense completely shutting him down. It's one of those "you can't stop him, you can only hope to contain him" kind of deals. I think the real test for the Michigan offense will be to see how they respond or what they do when a defense shuts him down on the ground or through the air (again, I don't see anyone shutting him down in both aspects in the same game). Do they have other players who will be able to step up at that point? Or what if he gets injured, is well enough to play, but can't really run. Will the RB's that they have be able to do enough to open things up for him in the air? It'll be interesting to see what happens now that he is playing against quicker defenses, is beginning to no doubt feel the pain of being midway through the season, and plays against teams that have lots of game film to study of him.

Here's ESPN Insider's "Heisman Predictor" list.

    1. Mark Ingram - 118.5
    2. Cam Newton - 108.5
    3. Terrell Pryor - 108.0
    4. Denard Robinson - 107.5
    5. LaMichael James - 102.0
    6. Taylor Martinez - 101.0

Here's an explanation of how they get their rankings:
At first glance, predicting the Heisman Trophy winner is no easy task. With over 800 voters spread evenly across the country, the opinion as to what defines a Heisman Trophy winner varies greatly. There are voters who strongly favor the conference they cover. There are voters who favor the hometown players. There are voters who strategically leave off candidates to increase the chance of "their guy" winning the award. However, when taken as a whole, the Heisman voters are a predictable bunch.
The following formula details exactly how one can predict the Heisman winner by simply analyzing a player's statistics from a given year. Before getting into the details of the equation, however, there are two key points to keep in mind:
    1. This is simply a prediction of who will win the trophy; not who I, or anyone else, believes should win.
    2. There is a certain amount of subjectivity to this formula. Given a pool of a few thousand players that are eligible for the award, analyzing the statistics of each one would be an impossible task. To create a more realistic prediction, only the most likely candidates' statistics are taken into account.
Now on to the fun stuff: the math behind the madness. The formula takes into account 11 different variables, and awards points in a variety of ways. Here is a quick rundown of the categories taken into consideration and the weight assigned to each variable:
Conference affiliation: 15 points are awarded to each player from a BCS conference; 5 bonus points for teams from the Big 10, Big 12, SEC and USC and Notre Dame
Player position: 25 points for all offensive players; 25 additional points for a QB, 15 points for an RB
Total touchdowns (broken down by position):
    • QB: .5 points for each touchdown; 2.5 bonus points for reaching 40 TD, 7.5 points for 45 TD, 15 points for reaching 50 TD; for "system quarterbacks," bonus points are not awarded until reaching 60 touchdowns (5 points)
    • RB: 1 point for each touchdown; 5 bonus points for reaching 20 TD, 10 points for reaching 25 TD, 20 points for reaching 30 TD; for non-BCS running backs, bonus points are not awarded until reaching 30 TD (5 points)
    • WR: 1.75 points for each touchdown; 5 points for reaching 10 TD, 10 points for reaching 15 TD, 25 points for reaching 20 TD; for non-BCS receivers, bonus points are not awarded until reaching 20 TD (5 points)
    • Defense: 10 points for each touchdown
    • Special teams: 2.5 points for each touchdown
Total yards: 5 points for 2,000 rushing yards; 5 points for 1,500 receiving yards
Team wins: 1.5 points for each victory; 10 bonus points for undefeated BCS teams, 5 points for undefeated non-BCS teams; 5 points for defeating the No. 1-ranked team (at time of game). NOTE: These points are only available for quarterbacks.
Win streak: 2.5 points for teams that end the season with 5 or more consecutive wins
Bowl game: 5 points if the team is selected to a BCS bowl, 10 points for the championship game
Previous year's Heisman voting: 10 points for finishing in the top 10 in the voting; only 2.5 points for the defending Heisman winner
Defending champion: 5 points for playing on the defending national champion
Team improvement: 7.5 points for BCS teams that improve by 5 or more wins from the previous season; 2.5 points for non-BCS teams
Performance vs. top-10 opponents (broken down by win or loss): Players can only accumulate up to 15 points through the season in this category.

Good call on throwing James in there. I'm kind of surprised he isn't getting more love. I'd guess with them moving up to #3 (Jeff Sagarin has them #2) the attention he will get will increase. He will also put up some video game type numbers the remainder of the season with the only really tough defense left on the schedule being Arizona.

nah, it doesn't matter who it is. If I agree with someone I agree with someone. I don't disagree with people ahead of time based on their opinions/views on past topics or who they are a fan of.

Cam Newton #2 wow, sure Auburn is unbeaten but #2.
    1) Denard Robinson (his numbers speak for themselves)
    2) Kellen Moore (best clutch QB in the country)
    3) Terrelle Pryor (best athlete, OSU must go unbeaten for him to win)
    4) LaMichael James (wish my Buckeyes had him)
    5) Mark Ingram (great player, will move up but in my opinion hasn't played enough games yet) Florida held him to what 55 Yds.?
  • karen lotz
    ^^^

I just saw someone from ESPN's twitter and he had Newton 2nd also. He didn't have Moore or Ingram at all though.

EDIT: Nevermind, it was Dari Nowkhah.

I'm pretty sure Ingram is out of the running at this point.

Missed the first two games. He had a monster game against Duke (but it was duke) - 9 carries 151 yards
    9/25 @Arkansas 24 157 - A good game against
    10/2 Florida 12 47 - Bad game
    10/9 @South Carolina 11 41 - Bad game and a loss

He's out of the Heisman race.

I agree. Missing two games, and the last two he hasn't done much. He is out of it.

He had a "bad" game and still had 300+yards and 2tds.

You can win the heisman even if you're team doesnt do great, ask Tebow

    He also had 3 interceptions

Im aware, but if Mallet is still in the running after throwing like 90 picks. I dont see why this cements Robinsons fate
