What else does Boise have to prove?

ytownfootballMy God you two need a room. Delusional would be a fair, accurate though somewhat kind of an assessment for you two.

karen lotzytownfootball;474405 wrote:You're not correct in your assessment. I know one Florida fan who feels exactly the same regarding Boise.
I don't despise ND, and I respect what the SEC has done recently. I'm a huge Buckeye fan, so what?
I said pretty much every non OSU fan... As a general statement I don't think you can say I'm wrong. Sure there are a couple OSU who say they respect others etc but on the whole that's not true. Also, you can say there are a few non OSU fans who hates Boise, but by and large, those fans can acknowledge another program's success. -
dat dudeIt's such a ridiculous over-generalization.

And IF my aunt had a dick, she'd be my uncle. VT didn't and they lost (are you really shocked that Beamer got outcoached AGAIN? This seems to be an annual occurrance, yet people are shocked every year). But I forgot, this is the old standby excuse for BCS conference teams who can't win all their games yet still feel entitled to be in the NC game over a team that goes undefeated.Cleveland Buck;474352 wrote:On Virginia Tech's last possession with the lead, they were pounding the ball and Boise's defense was out of gas. If they hand it to Williams two more times instead of fucking around with Taylor out of the shotgun, they win the game. Imagine how beat up they would be if they had to play that same game for the next 3 weeks after this? Those 1 and 2 star underclassmen recruits better be ready to step in and play when guys get hurt.
WINNING is the basis for every sport that is played. Vince Lombardi once said "If winning isn't the most important thing, then why do we keep score?" It DOES NOT MATTER what would have happened IF something had happened, it matters what DOES happen. Had Boise State lost this game, or if they lose any other game this year, they will have NO basis to argue their spot in the NC game. However, should they go undefeated, and especially if there is only one or NO other top teams left undefeated, they have every right to be there.
I guess it would satisfy you guys all better if they went independed and scheduled 3 games to start the year from the MAC, 1-AA and the sunbelt, and then played 7 more teams like Vandy, Baylor, Washington State, Northwestern, Wake Forest, Syracuse and Indiana, and then 1 ranked team, such as Oregon (last year) or VT this year. You're telling me that THAT schedule ^^^ if it ever happened, would make them without a doubt, a LEGIT NC contender, but the one they play now doesn't?? Because that's you're logic. That's what the top teams in each conference do every year. They play a bunch of OOC creampuffs, play 1 or 2 teams that they SHOULD beat but who are fairly close to them in talent, and then play 5-6 conference games that you know aren't going to be close, who they are clearly better than. I've watched about 5 midmajor teams this weekend, that would finish in the top 2 of the Big East if they were in it this year. BUT WE DON'T KNOW, because it's all hypothetical. You can only go off what has happened, and whether you want to face it or not, Boise State has a more impressive "W" on their resume than any other team in college football right now. And when VT rebounds and wins a crapload of games, and Oregon State does the same, they'll be considered worthy of the BCS, but Boise State (and TCU, who beat Oregon State) will be downplayed for beating them, while a team in their league would be rewarded with praise for "beating such a tough team/winning such a tough tough conference game". Hypocrisy abounds when it comes to this topic.
Let me ask you all a very simple question. This will likely not happen, but if it did, what do you think?: If Boise State and Ohio State finish undefeated, AND a team such as Ole Miss were to run the table the rest of the way, win the SEC/SEC championship game, are they worthy of playing for a NC over Boise State? -

No. -
ytownfootballOh geez karen, pretty much every ND poster on here does the same to OSU and their fans with very few exceptions. Those few I have regular conversations with. It's all about perception. cats can be reasonable every once in awhile but LIVES to try to borrow under OSU fan's skin, never misses the opportunity. Frankly, you've stepped up your game this season in doing much of the same. Why? You can't actually deny it with a straight face can you?
It's college football. I don't say anything I wouldn't say to anyone's face (with very few exceptions). It's entertainment, not life or death. -
enigmaaxred skin - Wondered when you'd jump in. Yes, Ole Miss would deserve to be in over Boise State if they win out. Rank all of Boise and Ole Miss' wins if that were the case and Ole Miss would have at least the top two wins, followed by Boise's (being generous) and then Ole Miss' next seven just to complete the top 10. Boise might sneak their Oregon State win in there somewhere, but Ole Miss would still have more good wins comparing them head-to-head.

Without question. -
karen lotzytown, I did say there are a few exceptions. Yes I've gotten into a few discussions on here with OSU fans but I have been responding to some questionable posts. I didn't go the way of some and just start spewing OSU sucks blah blah blah. I have gotten sucked in by some pretty bad arguments. I have also given OSU credit when its deserved, I just don't agree with some people who believe OSU is the end all be all in college football, and that's where my question comes from.

No, if they have a loss to a d1aa school.....they dont deserve any chance in being in the BCS title game. -
ytownfootballI hate to be part of any generalized statement karen, pet peeve. Most people have problems with other fan bases, you too apparently. The truth of the matter, honestly for ND fan's is a handful of OSU posters, we all know who they are. That's not the entire fan base of The Ohio State University, not even most, actually it's barely a fraction.
-
karen lotzRight, but I'm not talking strictly ND/OSU. It seems like its OSU vs the rest of college football where as the rest of college football can acknowledge there are other teams that might be better than theirs. That's all my question meant. I wasn't trying to attack anyone, just asking a question. So far OSU fans have disagreed and non OSU fans have agreed.

2quik4uthey better hope utah doesn't go undefeated

ptown_trojans_1This game was essentially Blacksburgh north, Boise won a road game agaisnt a top 10 team. The noise didn't phase them. And they didn't win it with flash of gimmicks. They did their thing, They would play anyone well. They are legit national title contenders to me.

Don't let the "numbers" fool you. Predominant board will seem to have polarity when you're in the minority. Go to a few others and check them out, I have and if you think about it it makes sense. No big deal. -
I Wear PantsThe BCS is stupid anyway.

MulvaBoise State has nothing left to prove. They started the season #3 for a reason.
The haters will keep hating, but the intelligent football fans know how legit this team is. -

It is too bad they don't play anyone else to prove this point.

Ha ha. Yeah, it is all about intelligence. Nobody said they weren't legit. The discussion is whether or not their schedule merits a national title game, which it doesn't.
Think about the fact that you are now saying, "they have nothing left to prove" after the first game of the season. One win and a team has nothing left to prove? Guess we should've just given USC the title last year after they beat Ohio State. Oh wait, they played more games. Boise State pretty much....doesn't play any more games. -
OneBuckeyeSure Boise is a good legit team. But they don't head into every game with the possibility of getting beat during confrence play, like teams in the Big 10, SEC, Big Twelve, PAC 10 do. They are tested by legit opponents who have a chance at beating them twice a year at most. Where most BCS teams are tested 8 to 10 times a year. Let alone play multiple games in hostile environments. I think they are a legit team, but VT gave that game away in the first quarter and again in the last drive. I do not think they are a championship caliber team after watching that game.
-
georgemc80Boise is a legitimate team, they tend to win games that they shouldn't and no other non BCS team has, however, Va Tech simply lost that game way more than Boise won it. Va Tech's unforced errors (from a fumbled snap, allowing a blocked punt, to not understanding clock management at the end of the game) gave that game to them.
With that being said, Boise was good enough to capitalize on all mistakes. Sadly, they will go undefeated and probably play in the title game. -

rock_knutneBTW, if OSU and or Alabama lose a game.......an undefeated Boise State will make the BCS title game. Chances are, Boise gets in this year.

This is true. That's the ONLY way Boise St. gets to the title game. But, I can also see LSU or another BCS undefeated team maybe jumping over them during the season because of strength of schedule. Let's say a #4 LSU beats Auburn and Florida in successive weeks(not sure if they play them back to back) and Boise beats Nevada and Utah State the same 2 weeks. LSU would move ahead of Boise State. -
OneBuckeyerock_knutne;474480 wrote:BTW, if OSU and or Alabama lose a game.......an undefeated Boise State will make the BCS title game. Chances are, Boise gets in this year.
Not so fast. The BCS forumla could push them out if there are 2 teams in the top 3 with one loss. Also the coaches would probably vote the one loss teams ahead of bosie in the final ballot and at least split up the first place votes. Thankfully the AP poll doesn't count. -
centralbucksfanTiger2003;474291 wrote:I will....This thread is a joke......and if Boise State wants to step up to the plate...leave the WAC
Agree. Boise St is certainly a quality team, no question. But to win one big game a year, then play in the WAC just doesn't get it for me. Teams in the BCS conference have the weekly physical grind that Boise doesn't get in the WAC. Its fairly easy to get up for one big game...to do it weekly is a completely different story.
I think if Boise does got indefeated, they will get in over a one loss BCS conference team...but I don't think they are deserving over that team.
BTW, Beamer should be fired for throwing that pass on 3rd down when Boise had NO timeouts left. It just verified what I have always thought of him as a coach. That was flat out stupid.
