2011 Big 10. They already said in the meeting.LJ;386984 wrote:They were talking about large monetary penalties for Nebraska because their contracts are for 2 years with each conference team, so 2010 and 2011 season. I'll find the link...
Nebraska has money to pay, especially when they will make it all back and then some their first year in the B10.
They might not have to pay shit if the conference collapses. Who would they pay? lol -

Because the rest of the conference is planning on self destructing in 2012. So there would be penalties to pay.
Trust me, all this was said before they officially said "fuck it" -

I'm aware of that. I think the figures were 50% of revenue for 2 years. 90% for one year notice. They could possibly pay $8 million, but I wouldn't care if I knew I was going to make 20-25 mil the following year. I'd say there is a good chance 7-8 schools bail anyway now. If those schools leave too, and the conference ceases to exist, who would they pay? -

I already answered that question. If they bolt in 2012, and Nebraska bolts in 2011, they owe THOSE TEAMS for 2011. -

Chip Brown (texas' puppet) is so full of shit. The texas writers have been pumping so much bullshit into the media it is unbelievable. Anyone who that got a chance to watch the Nebraska stream got to hear Osborne, and Perlman, tell the world what really happened and called Texas out publicly. Hopefully they put that on ESPN. -

Yeah, Texas was urging them to stay while looking at other conferences themselves. But I wouldn't doubt that other's didn't plan on leaving till 2012. Plus, the OB, has been pretty damn good for the past week, whether you like it or not. -

I have a hard time believe they all stick around til 2012. I'm almost positive they won't.LJ;387004 wrote:I already answered that question. If they bolt in 2012, and Nebraska bolts in 2011, they owe THOSE TEAMS for 2011. -

and I believe they would have. CO isn't joining the Pac 10 till 2012, which IS official. -
LJBaylor said in their press conference that they want the big 12 to stay around as a 10 team conference, ROFLS

LJMore ROFL
If there was any doubt where Nebraska is headed in its future conference affiliation, that should have been laid to rest by the note card Athletic Director Tom Osborne carried in hand when he arrived at the N.U. Board of Regents meeting Friday.
He sat down and started reviewing the hand-written notes on the card, at the top of which were written "Big 10'' and "Reasons.'' -

nice. so does Missouri all of a sudden
Texas should be in touch with Chip Brown to release a few dozen more articles about how Texas is upset and they never wanted this and Nebraska ruined the conference in the next hour or so. Clear their name up a little more while they continue to do what they've been doing the whole time. Strong arming people and shopping around. -

I'm pretty sure you either didn't read the whole comment or missed the LULZ in the Chip Brown comment I posted. -
sonofsamIm a little behind on this deal, but I know we are getting Nebraska to join the B10... This would give us 12 teams total then, will there be a B10 championship game?

Probably. Venues discussed have been Ford Field (detroit), Lucas Oil field (Indianapolis), and Soldier Field (Chicago). I would love it if the conf championship was held outside at Soldier Field but the place only seats 61,000. -

Chip Brown was on top of everything at the beginning of all this, but I think he's just a pawn at this point. I think that schools may use him as a leak source to leak false info to try and gain leverage since everything he's saying is being picked up by ESPN. Since he has become the source of info about all of this people aren't going to tell him anything now unless they want it made public. I think he also lost a lot of credibility when he said Texas and Texas A&M have never been contacted by the Big Ten even though it leaked months ago they they were talking and we know from emails that Gordon Gee was talking with their president about coming to the Big Ten. -

They're not going to do the game outside in December in Chicago even though it would be a great venue. It will be at Lucas Oil because it's a nicer newer stadium, Indianapolis is a nicer town than Detroit, the Big Ten basketball tourney is in Indianapolis, and it's more in the middle of the conference. -
LJTexas releases a statement from DeLoss Dodds. Claims they have been "honorable, up front and forthright." Will continue to explore options.

The school that was begging us to stay was looking at multiple conferences themselves. -

Yeah, he made it a point to mention the schools who were begging them to stay after they looked themselves.
He also threw in a good jab with his, One team doesn't destroy a conference. Two teams don't destroy a conference. Six teams leaving together, and organizing it together destroys a conference ( in reference to the 6 south schools plotting with the Pac-10).
The Neb chancellor discussed publicly what happened with the ultimatum. Basically said Texas told them that they would have to hold a press conference telling the world they were going to stay. That way if they left they would look like dirt bags. Nebraska, apparently, told Texas the only way to do it right is to sign a contract. When they asked Texas if they would be willing to sign a contract if they did, Texas and the rest of the 6 refused.
At least that's what I got out of it. -
LJJoe Schad just tweeted that Dan Beebe stated that Nebraska does owe the conference teams a buyout for the 2011 season.
-
SykotykI just don't see the Big 12 having any type of cohesion after it breaks up for any of the schools to work with eachother the remaining one or two years.
They may play games against eachother just because they need a schedule, but that will be the most interaction these schools will have with eachother. -

They did show Osborn's quote about Texas trying to get then to stay while looking at other conferences themselves on SportsCenter. I think the fact that Nebraska has very publically called Texas out may hurt the chances of Texas joining the Big Ten, especially if the powers at be at Texas are acting emotionally (which from what I'm reading, it's very possible that they are). I hope that when the UT administrators sit down and look at what the Pac-10 and Big Ten each have to offer they will realize that the Big Ten is their better option.
LJ;387187 wrote:Joe Schad just tweeted that Dan Beebe stated that Nebraska does owe the conference teams a buyout for the 2011 season.
Correct, as of right now they will have to forfeit 90% of the revenue they would have received from the conference (TV and bowl money) next year for giving a one year notice. If the mass exodus out of the Big XII happens as expected then the conference will likely vote to disband. However, it seems like the teams going to the Pac-10 won't be joining until 2012, which means that the conference won't fold until then so Nebraska would still have to forfeit that money next year. If the rest of the teams decide to move up their move to the Pac-10 to 2011 as well, then it won't matter and Nebraska won't forfeit any money. Either way, it's worth it for Nebraska. The Big Ten pays out about $23 million a year in TV revenue whereas Nebraska get's less than $10 million from the Big XII, which means they will make more paying the bigger penalty and leaving a year earlier than staying the extra year. -
krambmanJust throwing this out there, according to OSU's athletic site, they have an open date on their 2011 schedule listed TBA on October 15. Since they need one more game to get to the full 12, it seems like that may be a good place to slot Nebraska in for their first trip to the Horseshoe.
