Tonight's Smithville-Northwestern game has been postponed until tuesday...Any other cancellations/rescheduling?

No, and I'm sorry if I came across mean-spirited, but its a line that needs to be said to all the complainers out there. Its really easy to ref from the stands, but when your on the court and need to make a split second decision, looking at all the possibilities that could happen, its tougher then you think. I have ran into coaches who have been the yellers and then they took the class and did games and they came back saying they couldn't do it. I have seen parents for players who took classes and couldn't do it. Basically, put your money where your mouth is or just sit in the stands, shut-up and enjoy the game.

CVCA vs. Triway has been cancelled and rescheduled to tomorow.

Yeah, and I too wasn't being mean spirited, I just have heard a number of officials say that identical line at times, I was curious if that was something covered in the classes.

Anyway, welcome to the site Ref Dawg. Check out a thread in the BB forum called, "Ask the ref" where a couple of other HS officials discuss rules, etc. It will be nice to have your perspective as well.

Oh I will pass those classes and get some assignments for Orrville games. You think you've seen homered before, keep your eye on this guy.

Watching Mansfield own Orrville right now.......must be the refs.......

I respect the fact that you come on here to defend the officials. Not many people defend them. We just bitch. You're correct the officials at the Orrville-Norwayne game would have had no reason to be against one team or the other. They were just too inexperienced and were clueless. I take it you must referee basketball games and also have to assume you have not graduated to the varsity level or above. Let me give you some advice....... forget everything you witnessed at this game because if you defend them by talking angles and split second calls your as blind as them. Things were happening right in front of their eyes in the open court. That was about as bad as I have seen in awhile. I say awhile because there's some really bad referee going on. I have heard there's a shortage and it's obvious that people are taking you up on your offer. I feel I have an excellent comprehension of the game of basketball and I assure you I would be darn good at it. Actually I have officiated it before and it's really not that difficult. You see it you call it. Period. Officials make it much harder than it needs to be. I've said it before a foul in the first is a foul in the second, third and fourth. Gain control from the start and don't waiver back and forth. It's not fair to any player to be inconsistent all game long. Call it and be confident. This game was exactly as I have explained and I know I'm correct!

Nice post. Maybe you could play a quality opponent like Mansfield?

I guess Dalton, Loudenville or West Holmes aren't quality opponents. I also guess it is just like football, its not how good Norwayne is its how bad Norwaynes opponents are?
  • thePITman
And people wonder why good refs are hard to come by these days. Who would want to be a ref when all people want to do is blame every game on them?
  • Old Rider
Just because one Orrville fan was complaining about the refs doesn't mean WE all agree.

I will be the first to say that I think this Orrville team is NOT very good and refs or no refs, we can't win...1 win is proof.

dalton over central christian by about thirty. Lackluster, sloppy first half by dalton, before turning it on in the 2nd. Norwayne comes fri.

Im surprised there is no talk to this weeks big game. Although the Dogs have been sloppy lately they are shooting above 50% in the last 3 games. I can't wait till Friday!

I think Daltons small gym is a hard place to play for a team with a lot of speed, and one that likes to spread things out. The Cat should still come out on top.

is Dalton's playing floor really that much smaller than most? I haven't even ever really noticed much difference. I can't believe its too much. (now the jr high... but thankfully not for long.)
Really , Dalton has been playing well lately with the exception of the first half of the central game. I think Dalton certainly has a chance but norwayne probably has too much depth.
