Ouch, Eastwood lost to now 2-11 Oak Harbor last night.

Eastwood is not very good this year. Really missing last years seniors (Ruch, Rolf) and this team now is fairly young. Next year should be a bit better with all the core players of this years team being underclassmen. That being said I see the Eagles maybe winning two more games the rest of this season. Henline has not impressed me at all (and many others i've talked to) this year as a coach and its really starting to come out that he had good seasons just because he had so much more talent on his teams than the rest of the league.

Well duh. Talent equals success. How good did you expect them to be when pretty much all their scoring and rebounding graduated that spring? Coach Henline has done a fine job with the cards he's been dealt.
  • birddog23
Come on Stan, are you trying to tell me that you actually see some type of offense being run out there? No. Once again he has one of the biggest teams in the league and one of the better guards as well but just cant get it done. Sure the players will win the majority of games but there are some where Henline has just looked lost and gets out-coached.

Go back the past 4 seasons and you will see that those teams won on pure talent alone. Joe Schmo could've coached and they would have had the same win totals.

    one from Eastwood

I would like to see the rebounding numbers for the game.

Eastwood got killed on the offensive glass

Eastwood did shoot really well. 61% from the field and 16-20 from the FT line against Elmwood.
The Royals , on the other hand, made only 12-25 from the FT line which kept the game a lot closer.

But IMO, The Eagles were improved over the 1st meeting between these teams, which Elmwood won by 20.

Elmwood out rebounded Eastwood 27-15. Not sure how many were offensive.
And the Royals did make 7-12 3's.
  • birddog23
Yeah I believe Eastwood was 2-4 from three. Really surprising they only had 4 attempts but they were getting some really good looks in the paint.

Still puzzled why Henline decided to switch to man defense on the final possession after he had been playing zone the whole game. A simple pick and roll by Elmwood carved that right up for the game winning lay-up.

It was a pretty easy go-ahead basket. Maybe he thought he'd surprise them by switching defenses. Elmwood hasn't seen a lot of man defense since the beginning of the year. It seems teams would rather zone them and try to take away the inside game. They are a hard team to man because of their atheletic ability.

I think I speak for all of Genoa when i say COME ON!!
  • birddog23
Lets face it, Genoa just does not having any basketball players. They have a bunch of athletes that just play basketball to stay in shape and be with their friends. Not a lot of kids just concentrate on basketball anymore and actually commit to playing year round and getting better.

Ha why would you concentrate on it? Lets be honest it's probably the least successful program other than Cross Country. You're right though it is kinda like just something to do in the Winter which is a shame

Enough already. Genoa graduated a ton of basketball talent last year and is having an off year because of it. Five previous seasons they were a combined 73-27 and 51-17 in the SLL. Seems rather successful to me. They have a nice JV team and don't graduate anyone wh scores in double figures.
  • royal_k
Have to agree with stan. Both Genoa and Eastwood graduated most of their scoring and rebounding. They were very successful before that. Both are paying the price and having a down year. This happens from time to time. Elmwood starts 5 seniors. Next year they will have to replace everything. It will be tough to do that.

Elmwood claims the last SLL championship 80-46 over Otsego.

    Congratulations seniors. You were amazing.

Jack Waldock led with 6 3s and 18 points, Jay Hannah 16, Kevin Hammer 14, and TJ Waldock 13.

It's true with Genoa, I mean they depended heavily on that big three for two years and even with lackluster coaching they were still able to be very successful. This year however all three are gone and it's expected that they would have to rebuild from the ground up. It's humbling to see how far they fell and hard to see the margin in defeat, but it's not suprising.

Congrats to Elmwood on winning the SLL, the favorite from the beginning and didn't disappoint all throughout SLL play. I just hope they are ready for sectional play, they always have the stiffest competition.

^^^^ Good points. The Royals have a rematch with PH in the Sectional final. The other side of the bracket has LB aganst Riverdale with the winner getting OG. This district is loaded, as LCC is there as well. They will have to continue to play at the level they did last night to advance. Probably the best performance of the season last night.

The Royals won at Woodmore last night 62-45, avenging their only SLL loss.

TJ Waldock led with 15, Jay Hannah and Max Zyski had 12.
