Just think what he could've done with those teams from 03-08....especially Hiller/Brenner's senior year.
Indeed. 10-1 is pretty impressive. Lots of nailbiter games in those 10 wins too. Coach seems to have his kids ready to go. He keeps it real simple...just win. Doesnt have to be pretty or a certain way....just have more points than the other team at the end. -
FlashMadison beat Shelby and is still in it. Senior lost to Findlay.

Did they miss Wasson's 24 points? Got Ursuline's record wrong too, they're 16-6. This guy didn't do his homework at all. -
RedRider1Nothing since Monday? Are we just happy to be here? I hope not.
Go Riders!! Beat Ursuline. -
THE4RINGZGood luck Red Riders.

OQBHere are my two-cents about tonight:
We CAN win tonight! I think we will be able to beat them down low, while they will try to beat us outside with their guard play. I think both teams are equally athletic, and it could be a really fun game to watch. I think we have to play a zone to slow them down though. Playing man just speeds the game up and we have had trouble playing at a fast speed because we turn the ball over at a very high rate. Coach Slaughter will have the boys ready to play tonight!
Go Riders, Beat Ursuline! -
Old RiderI think they will also run a zone (2 -3) against us to minimize our bigs touching the ball. Their zone defense could slow themselves from getting quick rebounds and running the floor.
We MUST have good guard play tonight and limit turnovers. If we control the boards and the bench gives good minutes...we will be fine!
Go Red Riders! -
OQBFINAL:
Ursuline: 66
Orrville: 58
Orrville finishes at 11-14 and District Champions. Exceeded all expecations when they won the district title in Wooster,
To the Seniors, thanks for a great 4 years! This senior class has been a part of some awesome accomplishments and athletic success. Thanks for making the games fun and enjoyable to watch and I wish you the best of luck wherever you may go.
Coach Slaughter once again shows us that we have the right coach in place! 10-2 in the tournament with 2 District Titles, 1 Regional Title, and a Div. III State Runner-up trophy. Thanks Coach for a great season, even when times looked tough you kept the boys on track and had them peaking at the right time of year.
Ursuline has a great team, very athletic (not really surprising though)...they just made shots early while Orrville struggled and made the free throws in the 4th to keep the lead.
Congrats On a Great Season Riders! -
BRFBRF gives a tip of the hat to our players and our coaches. Coming in to the tourny at 7-13 and ending up at 11-14 is a great accomplishment when we could have folded up the tent and gone home. Who would have imagined that we would have won the District Title and moved on to the Sweet 16? (I know one guy who predicted it on here.......CCRolly!)
Bring it on, bigP! -
OQBEveryone going over to the Baseball thread now? haha

mvredGreat season Orrville from everyone in Youngstown! We could use your support Saturday in Canton!
-
RiderfanGood game by the Riders, down early and came back. We may have found a 3pt shooter in Smith, should make it easier on Devon inside next year. The point guard ftom Youngstown was very impressive, good luck Sat.

YtownIrishThank You, and congratulations on a great season.

RedRider1Great job Riders...never quit even after a tough start tonight. A microcosm of the season. Radio said we took 22 3-point shots...that's not our game and I get that it was all Ursuline would give us, and we had to try it to open up the inside....but we took 26 3-pointers TOTAL in the 4 district games. Three point shooting was not our strong suit this year. Credit to Ursuline for forcing us out of our comfort zone.
Good luck to Ursuline against Cleve. CC.
Thanks and good luck to the 7 seniors.
Zach Wasson finishes as the 3rd leading scorer in Orrville history...and only 2nd in school history with 1500 pts and 600 rebounds. First player in OCC history to be named 1st Team OCC for all four years. Strong career.
Next year looks interesting.
Seniors to be: Winters, Brenner, Ray, Turner, Sims, Perez
Juniors to be: Smith, Neer, Landis, Lichti
Sophs to be (who will likely see varsity time): Summers, Zook
That's 12 guys, and 4 returning starters from the starting lineup late in the season...not much wiggle room. -
thePITmanCongratulations to Orrville on a very nice tournament run. You just ran into a better team tonight, but you still battled, never gave up, made it a close game time and time gain, played your hearts out, and should have made your community proud.

riders1What a run we had, great tourney games, fun and exciting to watch. #15 Gregory played a tremendous game , doubling his scoring average and really stepped it up every time we made a run. Would like to see the overall shooting stats from the floor, not just the baskets made the way the DR has been putting in the box scores of late.
We need to work with Devon to strengthen him up for next season as Zack was really muscled around underneath with no calls early, and maybe OQB could have a free throw shooting clinic this summer as it seems most of our close games were decided at the foul line. The slow start put us in a hole we just could not overcome against an athletic team like Ursuline and as I was telling others before the game, the winner of our game would probably be going to Columbus next week. -
OQBRiders1, I am a very busy man...lol a free throw clinic would really just take away all my free time.
I think over the next offseason everytime Devon is playing basketball whether it be in his driveway, at the park, at the school, or AAU whatever he needs to be double teamed the entire time.....let him get used to all the attention and how to work through the double team, or dish it out to the open man. Of course he needs to just spend the entire summer in the weightroom, maybe even workout with Mason to bulk up. I'm not sure how much he ways, but if he could get up to 230 by the start of next season he would have a nice solid body to work through those double teams, like Wasson has done for the past 4 years. He is going to be the center piece next year and needs to be ready to be the go to guy and make those easy layups and put backs. -
FlashI don't think we can count on Devon for everything. He needs a reasonable improvement in strength and post moves. We need Drew to penetrate dribble an make the short shot and play D. Stew needs to get a better 3 point shot (Some improvement at the end this yr.). Smith can help next year as a player off the bench to shoot the 3. I think Summers can do the same. Ray should concentrate on ball handling and getting some kind of outside shot he has some confidence in taking. Neer, Landis and Zook should all help some. Johnson, Gebhardt, Perez all need to improve if they are going to get time playing.

For big guys there is no such thing as an easy layup or putback. You are always fighting for position and are almost always hit or bumped when shooting. -
RRRockFirst congrats to the Irish they were the better team tonight, the Gregory kid played a great game. I think Orrville tried different guys on him tonight and none of them could stop him, when he is that quick and can pull up for a jumper that quick you just have to try to contest the shot and hope he misses it, he didn't miss to many. Every run Orrville made to get back into the game, Ursuline had an answer, good luck to them moving forward. I think for Orrville their is a lot to build on, losing Zack and Max will hurt but a lot of kids coming back for next year, I think a bright future for the Riders. Great season Orrville!
-
Bloody MaryGood season Riders! Thanks to the senior leadership all season long and continued success in the future. Future looks bright for the next couple of years and hopefully we will stay Div. III. Next year I see a rotation of Winters, Brenner, Ray, Turner, Neer, Landis, Smith, Gebhart, Perez and possibly Sims. I don't think that Summers or Zook will be ready for Varsity competition next season and will lead our JV team to success. Hope all of the players will work on their games over the summer and continue the Rider tradition of winning basketball!
