Things Are Getting Bad on the Other Huddle

  • krambman
If you look at the ST/I forum (you can still see the topics but can't view anything without playing), half of the active topics were started by either JJ or AAF. I can't remember the last time JJ started a thread, and AAF hasn't started many in recent memory either. Only about 20 topics have posts from today. It must be getting really bad if JJ and AAF are starting topics to drum up conversation and make the site look like it has more activity than it does.

I thought the same thing. They are definitly doing a lot of "so........ what's new?" Not many responses from what I've seen

I noticed that last night when I went on one more FREE HUDDLE DOT COM spamfest :)
  • killdeer
I checked it out also tonite...(I still have not been banned)...looked quite stagnant. I did not post. Sad. Sad and pitiful.

    Cool story, bro.

    He was.

Retired fireman = full pension from the state
then add in what he got for the site, plus whatever ONN pays him... JJ is doing just fine.

Natali and Frantz may be living in a box and giving handjobs for money here soon, though. JJ has all of their money!

it truly is a sad state of affairs. jj usually came on there and posted when he was yelling at people about something or adding to an existing thread. can't they do something like what they have now in a bar? at least they can legitimize charging the patrons/guests.

Seriously, what is everyone's thoughts on the future of that site? Do they swallow their pride, and let everyone back on for free? Does the site eventually shut down, reopen under "new management" without all the premium content bullshit they try to force upon everyone? Or does it continue on as a sad site, a monument to a once-great online community?

Yeah...whether you like or dislike JJ, you have to respect his business sense. He started a message board that got very popular and then sold it for (allegedly) a very large sum of money while still getting kept around to do whatever he wanted on the boards. And now, as the board dies? All he's done is start a few threads and give a "thank you" message that comes off so generic you get the idea Natali and Frantz begged him to, so he half-assedly worked on it while draining his third and fourth martini of the day.

I have to give JJ some respect because he clownstomped Natali and Frantz. Regardless of how big a jerk he got, the site only grew under him because it was an Ohio sports message board and a lot of people got along with each other. After buying the site, the two fools started putting poorly-written content above the forums......but the jerk attitude still prevailed, as despite the "loosened moderation" claim, a lot of strict stuff was still happening. And then, they decided to make it pay-to-post again a year-plus after taking that function away.....without any open grandfathering of people who'd paid in the past. A very arrogant move that alienated a lot of people. Which Justin has taken good advantage of with the constant site-promotion of a lot of people -- which has made a legit change in things, as the people who posted the most there are mostly here now. He's rich regardless of the site failing.....I wouldn't be surprised if (assuming forum activity doesn't pick up) the site gets shut down.

Even if they swallow their pride and try to let everyone back on for free, I doubt if it works. Personally, I think freehuddle offers a much better atmosphere than JJHuddle ever did and as long as this place is here, I'm staying.

I think most people over here share that same sentiment. They're happy here, so there's no need to go back. The guys at JJHuddle screwed this thing up and now they'll have to deal with the consequences.

JJ would have been sitting pretty had he just took his money and ran.

The one thing that killed him was that after he sold it, he wouldn't take his hand out of the cookie jar. He didn't like what Bucknuts was doing to "his" site and became a huge dick trying to protect his legacy, and using his old mods (AAF, etc.) to do such. If I understand it right, part of the terms of the deal was he stayed on as a "Consultant". Worst idea ever.

Now, obviously he's doing fine in terms of money, but his reputation would be doing a lot better had he just taken the money and got the hell out, and/or at least forced them to remove his name from the site name, as to not tarnish what he had started, as they have.

No one's denying he started a great thing. It's everything after the sale that is in question, on both sides.

the first four threads on the bleachers is pretty funny
  • Mooney44Cards
haha.....for those of you with your ip address banned (like me! thank god for the palm pre) the first four threads are as follows:

    1) "www."
    2) "free"
    3) "huddle"
    4) ".com"
  • DESCENTdmc
they are now deleted and im permabanned hahahahaha

but that is also the first four threads in the classic huddler
i put a ghosttown for sale in jjs yard sale, you click on it and it says jjhuddle.com

will my post disappear with the ban or will they have to find and delete them.

I agree. This is a much better atmosphere. You don't have to look over your shoulder thinking you may have said something to get your post deleted or even banned just because you said something somebody didn't agree with.

These are all of the posters I became familiar with during my 5 years at the huddle... This is now my destination and the great thing is, this site has grown so big that it actually rival the original huddle at this point in time.

He was at his vacation home in the Bahamas when all of this went down and couldn't be reached for comment.
Well, he's done a fabulous job! I especialy love how he handled the large crowds that once loitered around the Huddle....

You mean may be fired by the owner of JJ Huddle here soon?
I think those guys have more of a financial stake in the site than you think. They needed somewhere to plug their Ohio High Magazine.

Did Bucknuts take them in (MVP Sports, Frantz's company) before they took JJ's in? I seriously don't remember.
