I just think there is so much bad blood with the new gay gay rulers that it's slowly going to go down like the Titanic.Heretic wrote:

gutThe stupidity behind such business decisions is interesting.
One other huge mistake they made was blocking access from even reading the forums. They figured people would care enough about hearing some info about their local/old high school but there's no hook when they can't read what is there. And to top it off that place is dead.
They had to have data on the last time that place temporarily went subscription. I know I didn't pay but somehow eventually stumbled onto the fact I had access to post for free again. They had to know they were going to lose a high percentage of the regular posters, and as any half-way intelligent highschool kid could tell you traffic is the key to generating eyeballs. I probably checked in there 10 times a day which generates as much ad revenue as probably 100 of your average lurker/infrequent posters. Gee, just one nickle a day from ads off me would be more than $1 a month, huh?
Enough people feel sufficiently po'd here that even if JJ invites everyone back for free I don't think they will recover enough critical mass to bring back people who otherwise don't care. But I won't pronounce their death sentence yet. I suspect they will re-focus their positioning as a family-friendly site for Ohio highschool sports. that's a serious setback and they will have to scale back a lot of the content, but as mentioned no one really cared about that, anyway.
Someone making this decision wasn't too bright. The way to increase revenue and grow that site was to drive traffic to college and pro sports, leveraging the existing poster base because, as mentioned, the hardest part to having a site is getting a critical mass of posters to create enough quality traffic to draw interest. You were tied into an entire state and its highschools - that's a practically unrivaled foundation that gave JJ a legit shot to expand into one of the premier sports social networking sites. Morons dropped the ball.
