what its like to have the balls/abililty to knock someone out at a bar when they try to punk you (lol @ you having to walk away like a bitch)

We were told train wreck threads diverted traffic and that people were tired of it.

If believing in god helps someone be a better person then I think that's good because I think the overall message is good, but I don't need to go to church and read the bible to know I should be a good person.
I think this is a pretty spot on post. I will rep it.

This is a good post...but consider what I put in bold print. The reason you "know this" is because you were educated as a Christian. (I'm not saying that it is exclusive of other religions). Very simply put...you are what you are taught....and the Christian influence in your thinking shapes your concepts of morality. I'd would say that it is also true in others who have since become atheists. They may have rejected organized religion and God, but they have not rejected the universal truths in the teachings.

Morality is independent of religion. If no god existed, would you rape or murder your neighbor? I doubt many would answer yes.

If no god existed, would homosexuals be abused and humiliated by as many? No.

Pretty much sums it right up.

Morality can arise independently.....I mean the universe arose out of nothing...and so can morality. That said...did you grow up in a vacuum? Nope.

But attributing morality to Christianity is not accurate. People were not murdering and raping everyone they didn't like long before Christianity came around.

I said Christian teaching is an influence on morality...I specifically said it was not exclusive.

Proper teaching at all is an influence on morality.

Kind of an irrelevant statement don't you think? Sure Christianity has positive teachings, doesn't make it right, doesn't make it real, doesn't make it a cult designed to control the minds and wallets of its constituents.

Sleeper: Just so you know, not every church is run this way. But I will agree that a fare number of organizations (churches included) can, and do, turn into a money-obtaining/money-loving adventure.

This isn't about Unions or Political Parties.

No, every church is run this way. Some are just better at hiding it than others.

You're only helping me. Faith proves nothing, its irrelevant. If you ever find yourself using faith to justify an internal belief, you have to recognize that it is irrelevant and it doesn't matter.
