From atheist to believer....from believer to atheist

HitsRusNo the real problem are elitists...people that think they have all the answers and want to legislate them against the liberties of other people. they can be from the left or the right. Religious or non religious.
Don't hate sleeper.... hate consumes you and "keeps you from doing something useful".
a Native American anecdote:
A grandfather was talking to his young grandson when he tells him “My grandson, you have two wolves living inside of you, struggling with each other for supremacy. The first is the wolf of peace, love and kindness. The other is the wolf of fear, greed and hatred”. “Which wolf will win grandfather?” asks the young boy. “Whichever one you feed” the grandfather replies.
I'm going to bed. Good nite. Good luck in your search for answers....and allow others the same courtesy. -
sleeperI'd like to see a link that there are two wolves inside of me.

Because there are shitloads of theists who use the Bible or whatever holy book to limit the rights of one specific group of people they don't like. Fuck "civil unions". Grow the fuck up and let them get married. How the fuck are two people in love being of the same sex degrading yours or anyone's marriage?HitsRus;1160807 wrote:My beliefs don't either. I really don't care that you are a homosexual. I think there are a lot of Christian churches that would be okay with you being able to get marriied, others would be okay with it but would rather have it called 'civil unions' . Others may object...and may not let you be part of their church....so go somewhere else there's no requirement to belong to a church. What's your beef?
No one is suggesting people force individual churches to perform services they don't believe in but there is absolutely zero reasons for there to be a law against people of the same sex being married that don't involve bigotry.
The beef is not that some churches have different stupid beliefs regarding gay people or whoever, the beef is that any of those beliefs are put into law. -

at sleeper...you do understand what an anecdote is?
I'd like to see a link that there are two wolves inside of me.
at IWP...the anecdote is about introspection, not about finding a wolf to justify your hate. The second wolf sounds like religion.
just look at your post...laced with words the filter **'d out, and full of sweeping generalizations of religious made from specifics. I would say that hatred is the real enemy here. I think I've already said that...
When you spew hate, you view that what you hate with 100% negativity(sleeper for example). You fail to see the inherent good that is also within. You ignore the good to focus on the bad. There is plenty of universal 'good' that is taught by religions...messages of love and kindness... Corporal works of charity and volunterrism that run into the billions of $.No, the real problem are elitists...people that think they have all the answers and want to legislate them against the liberties of other people. they can be from the left or the right. It is not religion or religious people that corrupt the intellect , but the 'hate' that we focus on that leads us to logical fallacies. -

I do hate religion. I don't spew anything other than using logic and reason before deciding life long decisions that affect other people. If religion was kept in a bubble inside someone's home, fine. But once you start influencing laws because of some old book you think is real, then I have a problem. -

There is no reason to suspend activism in order to right what you see in your mind to be injustice. Sleeper is perfectly allowed to campaign for homosexual/marraige rights. What I'm trying to point out is that "hate" clouds your judgement and is counterproductive. Too many of these religion threads turn into hate strewn diatribes that don't do much for understanding. The thread started out pretty good....and then....ahhhh.
