Last night, the choices I made were to play video games for a couple hours with the baseball game on the other TV and then to move to my computer where I surfed the net while jamming to music and then to bed.bamagirl wrote:

Pot does mess with your brain...basically eating away at your frontal lobe aka the decision maker and reaction center within your brain. So the bottom line is that it isn't "harmless." Yes, you can make the argument that alcohol and smoking isn't either...but why would you want to make one more thing that is proven harmful legal?

Prostitution is illegal nearly everywhere. You cannot openly sell a kidney on the black market. You cannot drink or smoke tobacco until 21 or 18. There are many, many laws regulating what we can and cannot do with our body, which is why that is a totally weak argument.queencitybuckeye wrote:
Other than it not being the least bit of the government's business what I do to my own body. Unless I missed the "for our own good" provision in the constitution, this is a game-set-match argument. -

That's a good point. I think pizza should be regulated. It mentally effects me and the choices I make. I'm trying to lose weight, but I'll be sitting in the office or at home COMPLETELY SOBER and the thought will pop into my head that I'd love to devour a big, tasty pizza. I won't be able to get those thoughts out of my head...and before you know, I'm placing an order on the phone.I Wear Pants wrote:

Because of pizza...I can't lose weight and feel unattractive. My life has been ruined by this substance. It should be illegal... -

Ohhh, just wait...With national healthcare it's only a matter of time before they add heavy "sin taxes" to various forms of fatty foods. -
bamagirlYour rights end when they infringe on someone elses. Why shouldn't something that can cause people to hurt others be regulated?
Don't pull that pot doesn't hurt anyone nonsense. It affects your brain and your ability to make choices...it limits the frontal lobe.
And actually I don't care too much for government regulation...but see no reason at all it should be made legal. All I am saying. -

Me smoking pot (or doing any other drug) does not, in any way shape or form, infringe on the rights of anyone else. If I were to drive while under the influence, sure, but I think it should be "regulated" the same as alcohol in that regard.bamagirl wrote: Your rights end when they infringe on someone elses. Other than laws setting age limits, the other laws you mentioned make no sense either. You're attempting to justify one set of laws by proving that other, equally stupid laws exist. -
Fab1b
Agree!! Stiff penalties for driving under the influence like drinking but having a puff at home doesn't infringe on your rights. I am not asking for it to be legal in public either, so no you can't smoke it at a restaurant or bar etc....so therefore it doesn't infringe on others either!justincredible wrote:

No I'm not. I'm pointing out your justification of "you can't regulate my body" is no justification at all because the govt does, in fact, regulate your body - and not just in the US, either. And those were but two examples off the top of my head - food and many, many other things we choose to put in our body are regulated and restricted.queencitybuckeye wrote:

You're the one who made the "can't regulate my body argument" and I merely pointed out it why that is invalid. And now you're the one who's saying those are foolish laws (without arguing the merits of that whopper) to validate your point. -

And if you think it's "harmless" your not paying attention. I just really do not understand the point of it, or the need to legalize it. That's all.SQ_Crazies wrote: If you still have a problem with weed, you aren't paying attention.

Saying that something is not a legitimate role of government is not the same as saying they "can't" do it, something I never claimed. The point has nothing to do with "can" and everything to do with "should", or in this case, "should not". -

it infringes on my tax dollars for people who have health problems or addictions to drugs that goto the government for help. this goes for alcohol and cigarettes too, if you want it to be unregulated, the government should cut off all help to people with addictions or health problems related to those substances. but until that happens, in my opinion, it gives the government the right to regulate it as they see fit.justincredible wrote:

I'd say the number of people in jail/prison for pot/drug related crimes infringes on your tax dollars a whole hell of a lot more.Glory Days wrote:queencitybuckeye wrote:

Ahh so all the brain scans that psychology students are analyzing and learning from are complete bull eh? I don't think it is all propaganda, some yes but definitely not all of it should be discounted.SQ_Crazies wrote:

SQ_CraziesA dude shoots someone in the chest while committing a robbery, his lawyer knocks his sentence down to 6 years.
A dude gets his door kicked in and his house searched by the cops and they find a few pounds of weed, he gets 10-15.
