There absolutely 100% is not Equal Opportunity in this country. It is not even a debate. A kid born to a single mother in the projects does not have the same odds of success as a kid born to rich parents in the suburbs. It is not even close. Social mobility in the United States is putrid in comparison to the Nordic countries for example.like_that;1638378 wrote:There is equal opportunity, you are never going to happy if you are looking for equal outcome, especially if you hold grudges over petty shit or events that took place when you weren't even alive.

There is no Progressive Liberal Democrat of Consequence who wants anything close to equal outcomes in this country. None. Zero.
The communists were purged from relevance in the 60's with the rise of Rawlsian Liberalism.
And of course, Conservatives always oppose things that would generate more equal opportunity like universal pre-school...it's always a boondoggle and waste of taxpayer money. Yada, yada yada.
What you conservatives really mean to say is that there is sufficient opportunity. It is obvious that there is not equal opportunity. What you really mean is that the opportunities for the p00rz are sufficient enough that if they work hard and don't do drugs and stuff they can succeed....blah blah the same old tropes that ignore all evidence.
Take this exhaustive longitudinal study of 800 poor people. Guess what they stay poor. This is the rule. The Horatio Alger myths that Conservatives use to fight actual attempts to equalize opportunity are the exceedingly rare exception.

Not really in the scope of the conversation I was having, but I will bite. I will try to be careful with my post, because you are a well known selective reader and will make a major reach to paint anyone as a racist.
Are you trying to tell me only "minorities" and "women" are born into poor families? What about the white males who are born into poor families? Should we change affirmative action from race to affirmative action for people who were born into poor families (only non whites males though)? LOL.
Not really sure how that is anyone's fault other than the parents who decided to have a child when their financial situation suggested against it. There is no way to solve this unless we create a socialist utopia, which based on your full retard posts, that dream is exactly what you jerk off to. We have a black president in office. When will the excuses ever end?
We placed the Japanese into concentration camps. Do they still QQ a storm and demand preferential treatment? I definitely don't see them bitching. It is amazing what people can do when they have TWO parents who place an emphasis on discipline and education. OH MAN, what a noble concept.

I don't know a single person who wouldn't hire someone because of their skin color or treat them poorly on that alone. Even D. However, its a bit backwards to think that there isn't that voice in the back of your mind when you see a minority pop out of nowhere with a new job in your company BECAUSE of the current laws we have. As stated, I work with minorities and the majority of them are just as competent as anyone else(SHOCKER!). I have also stated that there is a high correlation between poor job performance and darker skin just from my personal experience.
Again, when are black people going to grow up and start accepting responsibility that if they fail its their own damn fault and not white people holding them down? -

I guess from my perspective here, to not count comments made by Sleeper (who tends to exaggerate in a trolling way to make points) and CCrunner (pure derp, all the time), the "blacks are D because they're looking for handouts" card does come from various conservative posters here (Belly, in particular, after one uses Rosetta Stone to translate his posts to actual English), which is what led to my initial post. I mean, if some people on one side are willing to essentially label one particular group to make a point, then why shouldn't people on the other side do the same sort of thing in opposition to it. A "what's good for the goose is good for the gander" sort of thing. Which is what made me look at the concept of "it's funny someone is just using certain groups to make their point instead of all minorities" as strange, since I see certain Rs on this site do it regularly, except they focus on the groups that are, in general, less successful.HitsRus;1638308 wrote:Hey, sticks and stones, man. I interpreted your post as playing the race card... because "we all know" that conservatives think blacks vote democratic for handouts and stuff. Maybe I'm just too sensitive to this stuff. My cousin who I love dearly is a Progressive, and fairly often some links to progressive websites comes thru on her facebook page. They constantly are making "canards" ( to use boatshoes' term) about what conservatives think...just so they can ridicule it. I'd be pretty certain that conservative sites do the same thing. It doesn't change the fact that particular one is tantamount to playing the 'race card'. You don't have to agree with me. Sticks and stones.
It is so easy to hate someone when you can attach a label complete with 'undesirable' attributes isn't it?
Speaking of "painfully stupid"....have you read the last page of this thread?

As for the last point, yeah. I'll accept responsibility on that. Slow day and watching MB turn into Isadore Jr. was amusing enough to me that I just kept him going until stuff picked up for me and I lost interest in his ineffectual attempts at taking jabs. So in this case, the #573273475 thread on this site that got taken wildly off course, it's my bad for encouraging him to be himself. -

I agree with a lot of your points there. To me, there's a big logic-fail in placing social and fiscal conservatism together. Fiscal C has a lot of pragmatic logic to it, which I can definitely respect, especially as I get older (and coming into some solid $$$ via inheritance stuff doesn't hurt, either). Things like "don't have kids unless you have a financial plan other than going on welfare" should be ingrained in a person's mind.like_that;1638429 wrote:Not really in the scope of the conversation I was having, but I will bite. But there's a lot of stupidity out there, which leads to the welfare state philosophy. With a big problem in that social "bible-thumping" conservatism is anti-abortion because it's soooo important to preserve god's life (unless it's a war, then kill those foreigners!!!!) and, at the extremes, anti-birth control.
So, what do you get? A lot of uneducated people popping out kids they can't support that we, as a people, have to support. To me, pure logic dictates that a person or family's income should dictate how many children (if any) they are allowed to have and fuck this "all life is sacred" bullshit, since just like everything else, that "rule" has so many exceptions made to it that it doesn't actually matter.
To me, I think conservatism would resonate with the people a lot more if only the fiscal part really came into play. As time goes on in any society, views change on things and time is showing that a lot of social conservative ideals seem to be becoming viewed as outdated and archaic, leading to the R side essentially shooting itself in the foot by trying to play to too many groups. -

1. Try as you might you will not find any post where I have painted conservative posters here as racist. Sorry, you're wrong. "Stop bitching" IMHO is not an adequate response.
FWIW, I do not know how we got started on Affirmative Action but I have mentioned before that I think AA programs probably start too late in life. Would probably be better to equalize opportunity earlier in people's lives but that is neither here nor there.
2. How is it the fault of a child that he or she was born to irresponsible parents of any race? Too bad though, life is not fair. Stop bitching and deal with the hand god dealt. That is your position yes?

I care about creating opportunities for the poor but not just minorities. Creating opportunities doesn't always translate into people taking those opportunities especially given that you can just sit on your ass and collect welfare checks for your 8 children with 5 different fathers.BoatShoes;1638498 wrote:1. sleeperAnyone ever stop and think that slavery may have been the best thing to ever happen to the majority of black people? With some exceptions, most slave owners gave their slaves food/shelter/medical care which already trumped their current life fighting wars and dying from diseases in Africa. Bounce forward 200+ years later and Africa is still a shithole while current black people get the royal treatment here in America and can at least have the taxpayers bail them out if they ever get in trouble.
Are there any current black people that would prefer going back to Africa? Didn't think so. -
