You mean people aren't looking at insurance packages as part of their compensation already? I have done that for every job I have ever worked at.Devils Advocate;1632263 wrote:I don't have a problem with the Hobby Lobby decision for the most part.
The ACA will change the market place for jobs. People will actually start looking at benefits as part of their compensation packages. If you want your birth control paid for, you are free to find a job that pays for it.
On the other hand, I hope that this isn't a slippery slope thing that will allow employers to dis allow same sex marriage benefits, make all females wear dresses, Or allow someone to get fired for being sighted at a strip club or having a child out of wedlock.
I do find it interesting that Hobby Lobby's insurance pays for erectile dysfunction and boner pills. -

lol, come on DA, the percentage of people who had insurance before the ACA and those that have it now is NOT significantly higher. The main thing the ACA did was transfer people FROM their work's insurance to the ACA marketplace.Devils Advocate;1632382 wrote:With the ACA, Many have never had insurance. it is something new to them.
There was a net increase in total people insured, but it wasn't significant to be quite honest. Most of the "new" insured people were NOT due to employers adding insurance, but to people joining the marketplaces and medicare. -

If you are trying to imply that the influx of immigrants during that time was the same as '"diversity" today, you are sadly mistaken. Having known my grandparents, who came from the old country, quite well, I can attest that they came to this country to become Americans, and for their posterity to be Americans, not to maintain their ethnic identities within the borders of America. The late 19th century and into early 20th century?

This can not be over-emphasized. In the past many immigrants, notably German and Polish, and to a lesser degree Italians would even change their surnames to sound more American (my German ancestors included), and for at least 2 generation eastern Asian immigrants, notably from China, South Korea and the Philippines almost always give their children "Western" first names (Japan is an outlier, but Japan is odd even for east Asia). See Michelle Wie, Michael Chang, heck even Bruce Lee, and pretty much every eastern Asian-American person anyone under 50 years old knew from from school. Certainly at least 95% of the eastern-Asian Americans we know have "Western" first names.
It was an acknowledgment that they are immigrants and they are doing their best to assimilate yet still maintain their culture with mutual expectation of respect for both sides.
For whatever reason, our current "immigrant" status with Mexicans and Central Americans and similarly in the UK with southern Asians have no adopted this approach, but rather one of expectation of accommodation and little to no respect for the host countries laws and customs. This will not end well, but at least it is worse in the UK than it is in the US. I think there is going to be a huge push-back there in the next few years if the economy doesn't improve that could even escalate into physical violence. -

I think we have it all wrong about covert racism because of how a name sounds. I don't trash Shaniqua's resume because I'm racist, I trash it because her parents were stupid...and, as we all know, stupid people have stupid kids. Same thing if some trailer trash names their daughter "Star".Manhattan Buckeye;1632398 wrote: It was an acknowledgment that they are immigrants and they are doing their best to assimilate yet still maintain their culture with mutual expectation of respect for both sides. -
Manhattan BuckeyeOr Candy, or otherwise spell their name completely messed up. The kid can at least use their initials on their resumes/cvs (I would never hold it against them for that) or alternatively just alter it a bit and when hired fess up to HR what the actual name is.
A very smart, young female ex-co-worker did the latter, and she came from a very well-educated, wealthy background. For some reason her mother lost all reason and gave her a complete white-trash first name that would be embarrassing to put on a resume, but fortunately easy enough that she can simply alter it for resume purposes. I get the feeling that everyone in the family regrets the naming decision. -
YtowngirlinflaI'm surprised you guys aren't talking about the illegal kids being brought all over. Of course they just brought a bunch to San Diego. There were protestors who stopped the bus so the busses had to go a different way. Of course all the Mexicans here think it's okay and are fighting with the protestors.

gutObama now officially the worst POTUS since WWII...looks like the rest of the population is starting to catch-up to what some of us have been saying for a few years.
Funny part is, for a guy who once talked about getting us out of the ditch he sure likes to dig a deeper hole. The worst he polls, the more he isolate and antagonizes. If the Repubs take the Senate I think Obama won't even pretend not to have checked out.
One wonders if he sees a Clinton-like legacy slipping away and he's committing to pandering to his base so that he can remain relevant beyond 2016. If Hillary got $15M or whatever for her book, I wonder how much "corporate welfare" they'll kick back to Barry. -

Polling as the worst prez in 70 years; most might argue of all time. Though it can take years (especially when the press runs your interference) reality ultimately sets in and the truth is borne out. -

Read my post above, I'll give you the Cliff's note version. We survived earlier immigrations because the immigrants respected the country's laws and wanted to contribute to our great country (at the time) for mutual benefit. Today's immigrants see this as a lottery ticket and refuse to not only try to assimilate but overtly expect everything to be for their benefit. This won't end well. We're no longer a "melting pot" because these illegals refuse to melt, it would be as if they are ice cubes thrown into a hot stew.ptown_trojans_1;1632368 wrote:The late 19th century and into early 20th century?

This is a HUGE entitlement issue. If we "legalize", there needs to be a separate form of legal status sans benefits (social security, welfare, health care, voting rights, etc). We could provide a path to full citizenship, but it is something that would have to be applied for and earned (not distinctly different from the process today).Manhattan Buckeye;1633692 wrote:Read my post above, I'll give you the Cliff's note version. Even that is problematic in this era of pandering to voter bases...once politicians realize the huge hispanic/latino voting bloc for full citizenship then any partial or limited amnesty today would just be pissing into the wind.
I don't know the immigration policies of other countries, but I think you've mentioned before they don't include these people in their entitlement pools. -

Does that mean he's also "officially" the fourth best? Assuming you're citing the same Quinnipiac poll....gut;1632455 wrote:Obama now officially the worst POTUS since WWII.
Quite a paradox. -
Manhattan BuckeyeNot a paradox that when you poll the general population that Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus are considered better than the Beatles and Johnny Cash. Mitt Romney may have been weird, but he was correct in that half of the American population wouldn't know their asses from their elbows and rely on our government largesse to fund them. As long as the Beltway insiders get to wet their beak - who is hurt by this? I don't know...maybe true Americans that work hard and don't expect entitlements.

LMAO...because a whopping 8% of idiots consider him to be the best?!? I suppose in your world that's remotely relevant to 33% saying he's the worst.HelloAgain;1633714 wrote:Does that mean he's also "officially" the fourth best? Assuming you're citing the same Quinnipiac poll....
Quite a paradox.
Look at the Independents...even using the "best" ranking Obama is basically in a 6-way tie for the worst.
Partisan voters pick Reagan/Clinton as the best by about 2:1 relative to independents. Obama is 9:1, completely out-of-whack relative to the others. Clearly there are some Obama supporters who have a different set of standards for the agitator-in-chief. -

Correct. Don't make yourself look foolish trying to claim otherwise.HelloAgain;1633720 wrote:... the poll that "officially" named him the worst.
But no worries...Obama still has 2.5 years to convince the 8% what a failure he is. As it is, where he's at is nothing short of remarkable when you consider where he was in 2008, who he followed, and an extraordinarily sympathetic and apologetic media. -

Yeah, I'd hate to look foolish by saying a lone poll of random Americans didn't make it official Obama was the worst President since WW2, 75% of the way through his Presidency.gut;1633741 wrote:Correct. Don't make yourself look foolish trying to claim otherwise. -

Common sense, historical perspective, economic metrics, complete ineptness along with lawlessness tell us he is the worst. The poll largely reflects this reality, unless you have your head buried a mile deep in sand. -
