    I don't think I have a true problem with this. It's not just a blanket statement that anybody on SS is going to be banished from owning guns. I surely don't want somebody who is mentally incapable of having a gun... having a gun :/

    Right, because so many of those mass shootings come from 70 year olds lol. I'm more concerned about senior citizens driving than owning a gun.

    I know people who are 65 years old and older. They are more than capable physically and mentally to own and use guns. I'm fine with that.

    What I'm not fine with is somebody on SS who is not capable, mentally, of using them.

    There are many people who are quite young on SS, too. It's not just old people. And I'm sure there's a bunch of them who are not mentally capable of owning guns. I'd rather that they don't.

    So someone with a God-given right (2nd amendment) to own a gun is told "No, you may not" by the government an ms that's cool.

    Are there any other constitutional rights you'd care to trample? 13? 19? 24!? 26!? I mean, as long as we're gutting the constitution, why not target others?

    I made this point on Belly's "SS guns" thread.....and that it's just stupid shit thrown out there by the Prez to appease his gun control base, to make them think he's trying to do something meaningful. Most of these gun control proposals are just BS with no chance of passing, but when they rightfully get shot down (pun intended), he can blame the 'pubs', and life is good in the WH and the gun grabbers are placated till the next time.

    The thing that is stupid about the whole SS 'seniors' thing is pretty obvious....why should ANYBODY have a gun if they are mentally unstable?

    That's my whole point, what I have bolded in the quote. I don't mind if mentally incompetent people are not given guns. It's not about abolishing any amendments. But people tend to get carried away with knee-jerks *sighs*

    There's no need for the "sky is falling" tactic here. The thing that WOULD bother and worry me is if they try to piggyback other BS legislation about guns with that one. Then I would object. I understand that that is most likely to happen anyway, and at that point, I will line up with the other knee-jerkers. But a simple statement or legistlation to does not allow mentally incompetent people to have guns is not something to get all worked up about IMO.

    But of course, let's just flame out and spaz before actually reading what somebody is saying. It's much more fun to be emotionally charged, yes?

    It's not just anybody on ss. It's people who have been deemed incompetent to receive their own SS checks and need someone else to take care of their checks for them.

    The IRS used a “wholly separate” instant messaging system that automatically deleted office communications, according to documentation released by the House Oversight Committee on Monday. The system appears to have been purposefully used by agency officials responsible for the targeting of conservative non-profits, in order to evade public scrutiny.
    The system, known as “Office Communication Server” or OCS was used by IRS officials, including many in the Exempt Organizations (EO) Unit, which was headed by Lois Lerner.
    As the Oversight Committee report states, the instant messaging system did not archive any communications, so it is not possible to know what employees of the EO unit discussed on it.
    However, in an email uncovered by the Committee Lerner warns her colleagues about evading Congressional oversight:
    “I was cautioning folks about email and how we have had several occasions where Congress has asked for emails and there has been an electronic search for responsive emails – so we need to be cautious about what we say in emails.”
    Lerner then asks whether OCS is automatically archived. When informed it was not, Lerner responded “Perfect.”
    While it is possible to set the instant messaging system to automatically archive messages, the IRS chose not to do so, according to one employee interviewed by the Committee. The fact that the agency chose not to archive messages raises questions about the true purpose of OCS and what discussions took place.
    Needless to say, the apparent use of OCS to evade Congressional oversight once again shows that the IRS does not want the American people to learn the truth about the Lois Lerner targeting scandal.
