Vice Presidential Debate

What was more annoying . . . Biden's laughing & interrupting, or him patronizingly and condescendingly saying "My friend" over and over again?

Back to the man/woman thing. My wife, who doesn't follow these debates intensely, was highly perturbed by Biden's mannerisms.

As for last week's debate, Romney did not come close to interrupting Obama like Biden did tonight to Paul Ryan. I mean, if acting like a 7th grader in the cafeteria scores points with viewers, then yes, Biden won big.

LOL at Biden criticizing Ryan for voting to put two wars on the credit card.

Biden voted for intervention in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Both were terrible but Biden is just a national embarrassment. That guy is our VP? Fuck.

Bad sign for the Dems if the CNN and CNBC crowd are backing Ryan on this.

LOL...you're too much Gibby. I was simply making a statement based on what had been posted. I think the debate was even. Chill out, you try too hard to troll.

Gibby calling it a draw makes me think Ryan must have won easily.

Nah, it ended up pretty close to even.

Gibby was originally saying Biden kicked ass and has changed his tone.

I had to laugh when Biden said "800 million billion". That sounds like a lot!

What Biden did most effectively was put the fear of God into voters if anything happens to Obama.

He kind of held his own, amidst low expectations, but I think that "performance" would be very off-putting to independents and undecided voters. Completely unpresidential - this assclown is a bullet away, folks.

I'd like to hear like a, you know, plan from Obama/Biden on how to fix things, but tonight Biden just came across like a 3rd grader saying "I know you are but what am I". Boil it down simply: "[Biden] Your assumptions are lies, ours aren't." Forget any really discourse and debate.

I don't think many expected this to move the needle. Ultimately, since last Wednesday (and 6 days of intense prep for Joe bub) it's clear Biden/Obama can only respond with bullying and demagoging and not substance. That's ain't going to cut it.

But the train jumped the tracks pretty early, so that probably has him pretty pissed.
Some are saying that Biden's performance will fire-up the base. Might be all they could have reasonably hoped for.

Anyway, the "tie-up" tactic was effective at preventing his opponent from just pummeling him. Distract, get personal and don't let it be about facts. The base probably loved that performance, but it won't fly with educated voters. Campaign has officially gone full-retard.

The only thing Biden accomplished was to drum the Obama base which has already made its mind up. There was little new he provided to sway any independents, and he looked like the drunken uncle at a family picnic while delivering his message. We saw people reacted to petulance in 2000 with Gore's sighs, it is unprofessional and off-putting.

Ryan remained cool, but I wish he would have been more forceful in hammering points on Libya and the economy where Biden gave him easy opportunities to retort. He got a bit wonkish in parts but he more than held his given that Biden was interrupting him constantly.

Mitt did not come off well in that regard. But Biden is completely over-the-top. Plus, after Romney bukkaked Obama with substance his demeanor didn't matter much.

Ryan did absolutely hit the nail on the head at the end: "With Obama, we get speeches. We need leadership".

and lmfao, how many times did Biden have to interrupt with "hope I get equal time"? That really did make him look like a moron, of course I suspect he actually is. But it was like his pre-programmed go-to distraction.
  • SJBlueJay20
When Biden didn't come off as a bully he was a petulant child. You're not going to get equal time Joe, because you keep interrupting Ryan during his.

Proverbs 29:9 (ESV) sums up last nights debate to a "T".

"If a wise man has an argument with a fool, the fool only rages and laughs, and there is no quiet."

After last night no one can ever pull the "McCain could have won if he hadn't picked a moron for a VP" line again.

Tells you the intelligence of the average Obama voters that they think Biden won the debate because he bullied and interrupted. "Wait a minute...let me stop you right there....We don't have a plan, but I'm going to lie about you lying about yours"

Just watched the replay on RCP this morning.

Joe's strategery was sound. He was instructed to amp up the aggressiveness to compensate for Obie's tackling dummy performance last week. On the surface, that's an excellent play.

The trouble is Joe isn't savvy enough to know when to go full clown and when to dial it back. Had he the sense to cut the douchbaggery down by about half, he would have come out probably looking like the clear victor, as Ryan's subdued style probably would have had him looking weaker than he did.

Hence, instead of the talking heads discussing what could have been a surprisingly strong performance by Biden, 90% of them are discussing what a dick he was.

Clearly a squandered opportunity for Biden. It'll be interesting to see the effect on Monday's numbers...my bet is the needle doesn't really move either way.
