Slippery Slope - Anything For Safety
-
tk421For those of you who belong to the "anything for safety" crowd who said that the TSA is a necessary evil and it only effects people going to airports, think again. TSA checkpoints on Tennessee highways, coming to a state near you soon. I absolutely despise the anything for safety crowd, this is what complete overreaction and hysteria buys you.

That's right, the terrorists are driving behind you in that minivan. What a fucking waste of time, money and resources."Where is a terrorist more apt to be found? Not these days on an airplane more likely on the interstate," said Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons.
See something, say something. See something, say something. Jesus fucking christ, I hate this country more and more every day. That's right, random inspections. Not near the border, not near any national security locations, in fucking TENNESSEE.Agents are recruiting truck drivers, like Rudy Gonzales, into the First Observer Highway Security Program to say something if they see something. "Not only truck drivers, but cars, everybody should be aware of what's going on, on the road," said Gonzales.
It's all meant to urge every driver to call authorities if they see something suspicious.
"Somebody sees something somewhere and we want them to be responsible citizens, report that and let us work it through our processes to abet the concern that they had when they saw something suspicious," said Paul Armes, TSA Federal Security Director for Nashville International Airport.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol checked trucks with drug and bomb sniffing dogs during random inspections.
"The bottom line is this: if you see something suspicious say something about it," Gibbons said Tuesday. -
LJUmm, commercial trucks get stopped for random inspections in every state, and have been since forever
-
WriterbuckeyeI'm a big believer in national security, but this doesn't pass the smell test for me.
I'd prefer they shift those resources to shoring up the holes in the Southern border and at US ports. I mostly see unwarranted harassment of US citizens from the TSA, if I'm interpreting that story correctly.
Bush got accused of doing a lot of stuff that took away individual rights (some of it justified) but I think Obama is worse. He gets away with it because he's not under the same media scrutiny. -

believerUnfriggin believable. I'm moving to Clarksville, Tennessee on November 8th.
Guess what's in Clarksville? That's right....the home to 47,000 soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell.
If I see TSA agents along I-24 I'm going to lose it. -
Glory DaysHaha this thread is nothing but overreaction and hysteria.

No it isn't. Every year we're marching towards the type of society Orwell described. Overtly intrusive and oppressive methods of keeping us "safe". Most of them are bullshit.Glory Days;940363 wrote:Haha this thread is nothing but overreaction and hysteria.

No, it is. Just look at your post. Anytime something new comes out like this you would think babies are having microchips put in them the way some of you react. Instead of actually looking at what is really happening. Trucks being inspected at weigh stations.I Wear Pants;940376 wrote:No it isn't. Let's just hope it stays with trucks at weigh stations (particularly ones with Mexican plates). When they start flagging down and inspecting van loads of elderly nuns in the name of homeland security to avoid being accused of profiling, will that be enough to change our minds?Glory Days;940509 wrote:Trucks being inspected at weigh stations.
Frankly I think that's exactly the direction we're heading. -

Commercial trucks can be pulled over and inspected at anytime in almost every state. It's part of the agreement of operating a commercial trucking company in most states and has been for a long long time.believer;940512 wrote:Let's just hope it stays with trucks at weigh stations (particularly ones with Mexican plates). I'm not stupid. I probably had a driver's license long before you were a gleam in your daddy's eye. Having a driver's license means you know how CDL's are handled? I've had my CDL for 5 years now. Probably have 50 hours driving a commercial vehicle in those 5 years, and have had 4 random inspection stops. OSP had dogs at one. How is this any different?believer;940909 wrote:I'm not stupid. Yep. Correct. The states inspecting trucks for weight issues. Been going on for as long as the Interstate system. No argument here.LJ;940528 wrote:Commercial trucks can be pulled over and inspected at anytime in almost every state. The issue is why is the federal TSA agency now involved? Why is it suddenly a national security issue? Why do people have to surrender their 4th and possibly 5th Amendment Constitutionally-granted rights just because Pharaoh Obama deems it necessary? Who the fuck does he think he is? Aren't the states able to do their jobs without the TSA doing it for them?
Random searches based on what? What if vehicle operators won't allow it? Oh, that's right...they have a license, so that also means they've sworn away their rights and they can be stopped at any time, for any reason, for any cause, be forced to submit blood against their will, be subject to having their vehicles ransacked, and maybe even a cavity search should that be deemed, "reasonable". All in the name of safety....and the obligatory McVeigh reference, as if to show that being allowed to violate innocent Americans it's OK, because that's how the bad guys get caught.
Good gawd, what have we become? -

From what I gather it is TSA training TSP how to look for certain things and they are just doing heavier exterior inspections for drugs and bombs.
Now, if they are hiring more TSA agents and stationing them long term, that is an issue, but I just don't take the Alex Jones approach to everything.

The story said they want CDL operators to spy on the other drivers and call if they see anyone, "suspicious". Would that be someone in a turban or burka? Or, following the McVeigh example, call-out drivers in John Deere caps and "Don't Tread On Me" bumber stickers? The main point I was making is that the states have monitored truck weights, manifests, and time logs forever. But now, since King Barry is in charge, they have to supplement the state's enforcement with some of their own. Was their a terrorist outbreak of truck drivers somewhere I missed? Why now? Is there anything this administration WON'T DO to exert more command and control over all of our lives?LJ;940927 wrote:From what I gather it is TSA training TSP how to look for certain things and they are just doing heavier exterior inspections for drugs and bombs.

Don't get a CDL? -

So wait. First you complain about the gov't looking out for terrorists and drug smugglers, now you have a problem with people watching out for the same things..... So what is your solution?BGFalcons82;940932 wrote:The story said they want CDL operators to spy on the other drivers and call if they see anyone, "suspicious". Ummm...well....how should I say this....ahem...the TSA is a department under Obama's control, so YES, his administration IS orchestrating it. I know the lines between the states and federal authorities has been blurred before, but TSA agents randomly searching drivers defines it as federal over-reach and part of Barry's world.Glory Days;940955 wrote:and dont forget, for some reason Obama is orchestrating the whole thing.
I know, I know...if we only had more police, more cameras, more wiretaps, more searches, and more personal space invasion then we would all be living in total peace and harmony. Kumbaya, m'lord, kumbaya.... -

I would LOVE for them to look out for terrorists instead of fondling 6 year olds, feeling-out granmas, taking explicit photos of everyone who flies, setting up roadblocks to catch 5% of the bad guys while 95% are subject to illegal searches and seizures, and putting GPS devices on cars merely because they use public roads.LJ;940950 wrote:So wait. My solution for air travel would be to put armed agents on flights and to announce to the passengers they are flying with someone assigned to protect them, make the door to the pilot's cabin more impenetrable, and for God's sake...take some classes on how the Israeli's catch possible terrorists. They seem to be pretty damn good at it and they don't have to sexually molest their youngest citizens. -

How about erecting a fucking fence on our borders so that terrorists and smugglers don't just waltz right into our country, no questions asked? How about maintaining American sovereignty by enforcing our borders instead of posting signs telling AMERICANS to stay out of AMERICAN lands because the feds can't do their Constitutional duty?LJ;940950 wrote:So wait. First you complain about the gov't looking out for terrorists and drug smugglers, now you have a problem with people watching out for the same things..... So what is your solution?
No no no...how about they mandate all Americans be pulled over at the whim of anyone and be subject to inspection. Maybe in TSA school, they should practice the line, "Let me see your papers"? -
LJSo to prove your point you just make up a bunch of things that aren't happening? Gotcha

The problem is not people watching out. It's the creation of this atmosphere of "we're always being attacked" that has progressively getting more invasive, especially after 9/11.LJ;940950 wrote:So wait. how many terrorists within the past 10 years would have been stopped by a fence on the border?BGFalcons82;940971 wrote:How about erecting a fucking fence on our borders so that terrorists and smugglers don't just waltz right into our country, no questions asked?
