Obeying the law doesn't enable tyranny. And that's not what I said. It's this idea that "if you just do whatever the authorities/those stronger than you tell you to nothing bad will happen". That is the view I was speaking of and it enables tyranny, bullying, etc. Obeying the law isn't bad. Quit trying to skew what I've said.fish82;995111 wrote:Obeying the fucking law "enables tyranny?"
Guess what? I've received a ticket for a 3 am rolling stop in my own neighborhood, just like your whiny little buddy in his article. I paid my ticket and moved on with my life, sans tears or excessive pissing/moaning about it. I submit that if more of you people followed my example, the world would be a better place.
Oh, and guess what I do at that stop sign now? I stop. See how that works? -

I didn't skew bupkis. I specifically said "obey the law," and you said "that's a view that enables tyranny."I Wear Pants;995152 wrote:Obeying the law doesn't enable tyranny. And if the authorities "tell you to do something," more often than not it involves obeying said law. Hence, do what they say and nothing bad will happen. I'm having trouble understanding why a reasonably intelligent young man such as yourself is having such difficulty grasping this basic concept. -

You said "obey the law and nothing bad will happen". Not just obey the law. Implying that if you would simply do whatever the authorities say nothing bad will happen. Meaning that you're subscribing to a Kantian "do it and love it" view of duty. IE: Don't fucking question it just do it.fish82;995231 wrote:I didn't skew bupkis. B. bupkis (uncountable)
- absolutely nothing; nothing of value, significance, or substance We searched for hours and found bupkis.
OR

Apologies, I read it as if there was a comma there. "I didn't skew, bupkis" is much different than "I didn't skew bupkis" (what you said and not an insult to me).fish82;995264 wrote:1. Go back and read my original post responding to the link you posted. I said nothing of the sort.

The problem is twofold: English is a ridiculous language, and I'm illiterate. - absolutely nothing; nothing of value, significance, or substance We searched for hours and found bupkis.

No I didn't. I showed an example of someone who feared someone and did not respect them. Then made it clear that I wasn't calling police Nazis but using the example of Jews and Nazis because it was the first and most clearcut example of someone who fears someone but doesn't respect them I could find.WebFire;995253 wrote:But you did. -

It's worked fine for me too, but you act like it's a fail proof system. It's like saying if you don't smoke you won't get lung cancer. Obviously the odds are much lower, but to pretend like cops/other authority figures don't ever abuse their positions with people who haven't done anything wrong is naive.fish82;995411 wrote:Well, it seems to work okay for me...I can't speak for you people.
There are as many assholes working in blue uniforms as there are in any other profession out there. -
I Wear Pants
I'd argue the percentage is probably higher, if only slightly, because assholes are drawn to positions where they can exert power over other people.Mulva;995492 wrote:It's worked fine for me too, but you act like it's a fail proof system. Not to say most cops are assholes, because they aren't. -
Mulva^ I actually had "if not higher, due to it being a position of authority" in there, but I didn't include it because obviously I don't have any numbers to back that claim. I'm not sure how you measure assholishness.
I agree with what you said though. I don't think most cops are assholes the same way I don't think most people are assholes, but all it takes is 1 asshole cop to render the whole "don't break the law and do what they say and you'll be fine" argument moot, and there is way more than 1 example out there. -
I Wear PantsI include things like that because people already call me a loon on here so I might as well say the truth anyway even if it's going to be misinterpreted. (Not always on purpose, I word things retardedly quite often)

pmoney25IWP, You better watch out, you could be deemed as a Terrorist some day with your posts on here. More protection from the government on the way

I heard this story on 610 on the way in this morning and they interviewed a lawyer that claims this is illegal wiretapping and millions of Americans are entitled to damages. Fat chance that will ever happen with the Homeland Security Administration; wherein each and every person is a potential terrorist and is therefore subject to monitoring, up to and including wiretaps and GPS tracking. -
sleeperIWP has a problem with authority. He thinks cops should only be able to throw feathers at people who break the law.
There's a good chance he'll be unemployed and join the OWS movement shortly. Enjoy! -
I Wear PantsSleeper, I won't be joining you on the unemployment line anytime soon.

I'll bet you didn't know that a bipartisan group of senators wants to claim all of American soil is a battlefield and therefore subject to the rules of war. Can't say I'm shocked.
Is Rand Paul running? He could give his daddy some coaching on how to make points. -

Be careful some will see this as you calling on these great Senetors to be shot. Be on the look out for dudes in darks suits and sunglasses. If this bill passes a contigent of military personel could descend on your dorm and you will be wisked away to an undisclosed location.
