Wayne county area wrestling '11-'12

1_beastSrock uses his size to stall for 5:45...then powers a takedown or an escape in the last :15 secs....book it!!!
I wish I had a neighbor as friendly as you Bloody! -
BearBoy69It's Kelbly's Sr. year. Srock is a Jr. That is all i gotta say. I'm not saying Kelbly is WAY better either, just a inner determination argument.

firestonefanLooking forward to coming to Waynedale On Feb 4th to do the broadcast of the Waynedale/Northwest/Willard tri meet via www.nwntv.com. I had the chance to meet 1 beast earlier this month on a spur of the moment drive deep into Wayne County. Great guy! There should be some good individual match ups. I don't follow Willard too much, how are they this season?
On another note, I hope Coney dogs are on the menu! -
Red RumLots of exciting local action over the weekend! Congrats to Orrville & Northwestern on their tourney wins.
Has anyone started doing the math on the county tournament?
I still gotta think Waynedale will take it, but Northwestern, Norwayne, Hillsdale & Smithville should make it exciting.
Although I didn't get to physically look at the paper yesterday, the coverage online was excellent. Dorksen is doing a fine job.
Since a few people have weighed in on the upcoming Srock/Kelbly bout, I'll throw in a few more comments. Srock seems to win close ones, and Kelbly seems to lose them. That being said, both are excellent HWTs and will hopefully wind up in Columbus. -

Doesn't that statement apply to 75% of heavyweights? Especially the better one's?1_beast;1062743 wrote:Srock uses his size to stall for 5:45...then powers a takedown or an escape in the last :15 secs....book it!!!

Red RumNot much to say, thread was in danger of falling off the first page.
maybe I should have let it. -
1_beastLet it fall. Wrestling doesnt seem to be of interest in the are this year....

Red RumThis will be my last attempt to stir up some conversation-
WCAL Meet-
I'm not sure how this new format thing will play out and if there will even be championship matches at the end of the night, but I will reserve judgement as more matches is a good thing and change was imminent anyhow.
I see a few classes as definite or probable walkovers-
Beam will destroy everyone at 170.
The Nelsons will do the same at 120 & 138
Britton has no real challengers at 113
A few other classes will be slightly more contested-
B. Stanley & Finley at 160. I like Stanley but Finley will make him earn it
Grier & Wardell at 132. Grier will probably take it but Wardell has upset potential
Heldenbrand & Young at 106. I'm told Heldenbrand is the favorite here
145 & 152-
at 145 Moore is most likely the favorite. However, Stanley appears to have real upset potential and Martin is a darkhorse.
Fortune will be a slight favorite here. Heldenbrand will bring it for the rematch & Studer may further obscure this picture.
The Uppers-
HWT. Srock vs Kelbly. Take your pick. I'm going with Srock
at 220, Wiley vs Gingerich? Wiley vs Badertsher again? I'm not sure although I'm leaning towards Gingerich or Wiley to win it.
195...Hilty or Eisenhauer? I'm thinking one of those two.
182-The other Hilty? I guess I'll go with that. Should be some good matches in this class with Schaefer, Strassbaugh, Zollinger & Eberly.
What I would personally like to see at the WCAL meet is-
some bumping around to orchestrate a Grier vs either of the Nelsons match. That would be a much anticipated and crowd pleasing affair.
Team Champion? Waynedale probably, Northwestern maybe................SMV,NOR,HILLS-you never know.
Who gets third? Northwestern, Hillsdale, Smithville, Norwayne?
Thoughts? Opinions? Threats? (someone usually wants to "curb stomp" me by January- or at least call me a clueless idiot) ...I miss that -

1_beastarea is pretty well represented in the Brakeman.
Just has Orr and Stanley at the wrong weights. -
Red Rum
Yes,1_beast;1065390 wrote:area is pretty well represented in the Brakeman.
Waynedale in particular.
THREE projected champions, not to mention the team championship.
Could be a year to remember in the Creek. -
FlashWell its been confirmed in the paper where beast gets his sandbagging expertise. Quoted from the DR by Louie Stanley, "Coaches fight their whole career to stay humble and sandbag and I've tried my best to do that"

Old RiderBeast...I didn't see it mentioned in the paper but..How many individual state champs does the Waynedale have?
Serious and Curious -
1_beast
Waynedale currently has 2 State Champs. 1983 Mitch Lance (145) and 2007 David Stiltner (145)Old Rider;1066709 wrote:Beast...I didn't see it mentioned in the paper but..How many individual state champs does the Waynedale have?

I think 6 runner-ups. -
1_beastHow many does Orrville have? Three with Jack Leeder and Shane Hartzler and Dennis Raber? (Budd??)
Going off memory.....
Hillsdale: Mike Glass 2x Champ 77-78?
Northwesten: Huber 1984, Everett 1989?
West Holmes: Sponsellor 3x 2005, 2006, 2007?, Hawkins 2008
Triway: Corey Cline? 1988 or 89?? Greg Woods 1990, Younger Cline(?) 1992?, Withrow(?) 1992? Meggasey 2002?
Tuslaw: Loar 2xer 85-86?, Horvath 1996, Aeshelman 2003? Corey Nelson 2006
Wooster: Luke Myers 1990
Help me out here...am I missing anyone? Did i mention someone that is NOT a State Champ?
Edit: I left someone off for about 15 minutes waiting on someone to correct me.....but no one did...I have things to do and couldnt wait any longer....hopefully someone weighs in with some chat. -
Red RumWhile we're on the subject of state champs, which area school has the most?
I know Waynedale & Northwestern have 2.
sounds like Orrvilles got 3
Hillsdale has a couple/few
not sure about WH
My guess is Triway, and I'm guessing the number is over 5.
Does anyone know? -
Red RumOff the top of my head,
Tuslaw has a couple more, I think. At least Cory Nelson, I'm sure of in 2005 or 2006.
Triway may have a name missing, although I'm not positive.
Corey Kline wrestled for Mapleton and won championships in 1994 & 95.
Curtis Kline is the Triway grappler you're thinking of. He won it all in 1988 -
Old RiderOrrville has three...Jack Leeder-1985?, Shane Hartzler-1995, and Dennis Raber-2010
We have multiple runner-ups and placers, but I couldn't tell you all those names from memory.
