Red Rum1.
If you subscribe to that logic, Tuslaw would be better than Norwayne in football last year.
(Tuslaw BEAT Smithville, Smithville BEAT Norwayne, Tuslaw must be better? Get outta here!!!)
2.
Yeah, the drawbacks are many.
3.
I hope it at least gets discussed. It could be exciting in the future if Norwayne, Smithville, Hillsdale and Chippewa continue to evolve into contenders. -

Heretic
I think a couple teams that usually are good were weaker this year for various reasons. I know Bluffton and Coshocton have competed for a title there before, but heard that at least Bluffton only was able to bring a small team because too many kids were on vacation or something. The local team there went against them and eight of their nine wins in that match were by forfeit. I'd say that about 8/12 or so of the teams were decent to very good and the other four were shorthanded and/or not so good. But even the lesser ones had a couple good kids...just a matter of if you were in a weight class that had an opponent when going against them more than anything else.THE4RINGZ;1032292 wrote:Some pretty lopsided scores. Serious non-trolling question, was the level of competition as solid as you had hoped it would be or were there a lot of weaker teams in the tournament unexpectedly? -
Jmar25Nwern is the favorite. I think they'll place everyone of their kids. I can see Waynedale possibly having 2-3 kids not even place. We know that quantity will beat quality in the tournament most years (Waynedale vs Mag 7) Waynedale will need at least 7 champions. Off the top of my head I can only think of 4 "shoe in" champs with 3 or 4 other kids having a chance at it. (Nelson, Nelson, Stanley, and Beam) As for which Stanley, I'm not sure but I will bet that one of them win it with a great chance of both winning it.

They've talked about changing the format ever since Rittman dropped their program, but nothing ever comes of it. Maybe instead of the yearlyzoocrew;1035266 wrote:I heard that the county tourn is going to be a pool tournament. That would take away the bracket games.
Way/ Nwstn Trophy swap, they should just base it on the county team that has the best Sectional finish. There have actually been coaches over
the years that wanted to drop the county tourey be cause its getting to be a waste of 2 pts, lucky if you get 2 matches and usually only quality
match is the finals -
mt1514The format for this years county supposedly will be weights with 7 wrestlers will be bracket, weights with 6 or less will be pool or round robin. This is from a head coach in the county.

firestonefanLooks like me and my team are coming to Wayne County to do a live broadcast of the Feb 4th tri between Waynedale/Willard/NW. Should I bring my own food and water?
LOL Just joking. Looking forward to maybe duing a dual or tri a year from Wayne Co. Lot's of tough farmer boys around there!! -
1_beastWe are excited Firestone Fan.
Firestone Fan and Nightwine Productions will be @ Waynedale Saturday Feb. 4, 2012 to do a Live webcast of Waynedale vs Willard and Northwest!
Should be a couple good duals!
Edit: I think we can cover ya on the water -
Red RumA glance ahead at County & Sectionals- Part 1
106-
WCAL- As it now appears to stand, I think the championship contenders are probably Jesse Young (13-6..NWN) & Jett Heldenbrand (13-4..HILL)
SECTIONALS- with at least 7 wrestlers boasting winning records this class should be fun. Along with Young & Heldenbrand, we've got Vidka(14-3..BR), Johnson(10-6..TUS), Ullman(LOUD..12-4), Wallo(7-3..ORR) and Jones(12-9..MAP). I'm not gonna pick a winner or favorite in this class because I frankly don't know.
113-
WCAL- Ben Britton(8-1..NOR) looks like a good possibility to win this class. Hostetler(10-5..SMV) & S.Hall(8-4..CHIP) should also be in the mix along with Starkey(NWN) & whoever wrestles for Waynedale in this spot.
SECTIONALS- A bunch of contenders here, along with Britton and the others mentioned above, Z.Durbin(20-1..MAP), Tschiegg(7-3..ORR), J.Johnson(9-4..TUS) and Hozan(16-2..BR) Champion?....Durbin?....Britton?....someone else?.....Opinions?
120-
WCAL- Zack Nelson(19-1..WAY) gets the nod here (and just about everywhere else too). Unkefer(10-7) of Smithville is the only other winning record I can find among the WCAL contingent.
SECTIONALS- Nelson. It doesn't appear there is a whole lot of competition for him here as Unkefer & Spencer White(13-4..BR) boast the only other winning records I see in this class.
126-
WCAL- I've heard Grier is dropping down to this class, if so he is the favorite. If not, Tyler Berry(12-4..NWN) is my pick. Genet(11-2..CHIP), Morris(12-8..SMV) and Marksberry(7-4..HILL) could also make some noise.
SECTIONALS- Dion Perez(16-4..TUS) and Grier would be an entertaining match. The above WCAL guys along with J.Weber(13-3..LOUD) are the other possible advancers in this class.
132-
WCAL- If Grier(6-1..NOR) stays here, he's probably the favorite. Brad Wardell(19-1..WAY) is also a contender in this class and has had an outstanding year. Grier-Wardell would be another interesting match. A.Heldenbrand(14-3..HILL) and Gregan(7-6..NWN) also deserve mention.
SECTIONALS- Grier & Wardell are at the top of this list. Ammond(14-4..TUS), Buchanan(14-6..MAP), Lowry(5-1..LOUD), Heldenbrand & Gregan also have advancement potential.
parts 2 & 3 are coming. -
Red RumPart 2
138-
WCAL- Zane Nelson(14-3..WD) is a heavy favorite. Ko. Moore(9-1..NOR) & A.Heldenbrand(14-3..HILL) will provide the competition if they stay in this class. N.Dupont(9-3..NWN) and H.Hall(7-5..CHIP) round out the best bets for placement.
SECTIONALS- Nelson also rules this roost with Moore, Heldenbrand, T.Bender(13-2..LOUD), C.Marthey(11-6..TUS) and Dupont as possible placers. Hall & Colt Black(9-8..MAP) also deserve mention.
145-
WCAL- Another probable Norwayne/Waynedale showdown with Ku. Moore(8-1..NOR) & D.Stanley(17-3..WAY) as the favorites. Martin(12-3..SMV) should also make the podium.
SECTIONALS- Moore & Stanley are the favorites again with D.Marthey(9-5..TUS), C.Kowatch(15-5..MAP), Potter(7-3..ORR) and Martin of Smithville challenging.
152-
WCAL- Fortune of Northwestern (15-4) is the favorite. Studer(9-1..NOR) & Orr(14-6..WAY) are the top challengers.
SECTIONALS- Fortune will most likely be the favorite here as well, with D.Blair(11-4..TUS), B.Naymik(19-5..MAP), Studer & Orr all having placement potential.
160-
WCAL- Brendan Stanley(19-1..WAY) is the favorite. Seth Heldenbrand(17-1..HILL) will challenge. Rohrbaugh(8-2..NOR), Topp(9-5..NWN) and Cline(10-4..SMV) look to battle for the consolation spots.
SECTIONALS- I'm guessing Stanley vs Heldenbrand round 2. other grapplers vying for advancement will include Rohrbaugh, Topp, Cline, Pickering(13-6..MAP), Hopkins(10-5..BR) & Cary(8-6..LOUD)
170-
WCAL- Zeb Beam(20-0..WAY) is the easiest call of the tournament. Challenging for the remaining placement spots will be J.Finley(14-3..HILL), C.Reed(7-2..NOR), J.Meek(12-6..NWN), T.Trogden(12-6..SMV) and N.Spach(10-3..CHIP)
SECTIONALS- Beam again. The field becomes pretty crowded after that as the WCAL grapplers and S.Elliott(15-4..TUS), T.White(8-2..ORR), J.Maund(9-6..BR), J.Artrip(9-7..LOUD) will all be looking to advance. -
Red RumPart 3, finally
182-
WCAL- I'm not sure I see a clear cut favorite here. It looks like R.Zollinger(10-0..NOR), M.Hilty(16-3..SMV), D.Eberly(11-4..HILL), J.Straussbaugh(11-9..WAY) and K.Schaefer(9-6..NWN) will battle it out.
SECTIONALS- Throw in John Miller(CCC) and S.Wohlheter(8-4..TUS) with the above group. I haven't a clue how this will play out. Opinions?
195-
WCAL- I'm thinking Phil Eisenhauer(12-1..CHIP) could be the favorite. M.Gingerich(16-4..WAY), J.Zimmerly(7-1..NOR) & T.Hilty(12-3..SMV) may have something to say about that. B.Mullins(5-2..HILL) and Z.Glaser(9-5..NWN) should also be mentioned.
SECTIONALS- J.Weber(15-0..LOUD) & A.Farabaugh(12-2..TUS) will join the aforementioned WCAL grapplers in what should be an exciting sectional class.
220-
WCAL- T.Badertscher(12-2..HILL) will probably be the favorite, with A.Wiley(13-4..SMV) & M.Murray(6-2..NOR) as other probable placers.
SECTIONALS- This class gets a little more crowded in sectionals as T.Shank(20-4..MAP), T.Sas(13-4..BR), A.Cary(13-2..LOUD) and Seymour from CCC, along with the locals, vie for advancement.
HWT-
WCAL- Srock(12-1..CHIP) and Kelbly(12-3..SMV) will wrestle for the championship again. Other placers?....Wellman?....Workman?...maybe the Dalton Hvy?
SECTIONALS- Probably a WCAL rematch. Other contenders could be Lehtomaki(8-2..ORR) & Benzo(CCC)
I'm sure I forgot some wrestlers and probably made a few outlandish calls, so help me out and give opinions freely.
I also think some of the above wrestlers will probably switch classes, which will greatly effect things.
I had very little information on CCC and Dalton. Apologies to their fans as I'm sure I missed some those kids.
Opinions? Comments? Let it Fly!!! -
1_beastI have no opinion at this time.....Miyagi's posts have stole my soul.....
possssssssibly....a follow up at a later date. Im still looking for my childrens kittie! -
nikstlitslepmurI'll comment on 113. Britton is definitely the favorite for WCAL...clear favorite. However, I think the sectional title will go to Durbin or Hozan. Both of these kids are at a different level in my opinion. Between the two of them it's kind of a toss up. I think Durbin has a lot of grit and never stops moving. Hozan might the be the better wrestler by a slight margin. I need to think about this one.

i see 10-15 on the low side....25-28 on the high side...just at a glimpse. This is s solid sectional, and may be tougher to get out of the sectional than districts for some classes.
